What followed was a hot and steamy interrogation scene, but I don’t remember what happened so I won’t include it here.
Either way, we found out where the rest of the demons were, and we were ready to put our plan into action. We needed to get in contact with Tchadd or anyone else involved in the job for confirmation, but afterwards, we were pretty much ready to go.
We left the Devil King in his room, still tied to the wall. He wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
I was about to head out, but Sally stopped me. “Don’t you think we should check around for some loot first?”
“That’s a good idea. If we take the time to look around, I’m sure we’d be bound to find something worthwhile,” The god of this world had taken clear inspiration from MMORPGs, so it was almost certain that the Devil King would have hid some goodies nearby. “A waste of effort would be pretty unlucky.”
The front side of the main tower had a doorway to a veranda that we hadn’t caught on our way up. We started towards the balcony, probably narrowly avoiding dozens of traps along the way. Once we arrived outside, we came to a large, wooden chest, complete with a gold trim and a rough coating of crimson spikes.
A celebratory musical sequence played as I opened the chest. Inside, there was a large, luxurious briefcase that looked similar to a line of Gucci business attire I’d won in a sweepstakes many years prior. The case flaunted a diamond encrusted lip and an ‘E.L.’ inscription on the handle, with a crocodile leather interior. It was almost as fancy as the kind of stuff I’d had when I was on Earth.
I lifted the top, which revealed a small glass syringe and several canisters filled with a bizarre, opaque magenta fluid. I was unaware until then that the technology for hypodermic needles already existed in this world, so I was unsure what to make of the briefcase’s contents. I looked to Sally for an explanation.

“Oh, this is an easy one. There’s a song that I remembered from when I was younger in case a situation like this ever happened to me.”

Emma, slayer of the Devil King
Steals his isekai Devil Bling
Finds inside a pink solution
Uses it to rapidly age crossbred species in order to create a hybrid between demons and humans to save the world on a technicality once the percentage human reaches a certain threshold as dictated by the owner of the world after several generations yet the offspring still maintain the immortality of demons thus not falling victim to the drought and all is saved through blood dilution
Duh Do Woo Boo
“Wow, that’s... awfully specific. I wasn’t even planning on revealing that for like 2 more chapters. Did you guys already know that I’d show up here at some point?”
“No, it’s just a song. It’s not a prophecy or anything, so it’s strange that it ended up being so relevant to the situation.”
“I guess it really isn’t a prophecy, since I didn’t slay the Devil King, he’s still upstairs.”
At that same moment, I heard a cry of pain from above us. I immediately ran to the Devil King’s chamber, only to find him hunched over, covered in blood.
“I thought you were immortal!” I shouted.
“Maybe in your presence, I was. But I, the Devil King, shall have the last laugh, as while you were away I was scaled to level zero and was susceptible to damage once more. I would rather perish than be eternally subservient to the likes of you!”
“Eternally? Dude, I was gonna keep you here for like, a week at most, until my contract was finished. You could probably knock those chains loose yourself if you tried.”
The Devil King took his last breath, leaving nothing but a lifeless husk. After making sure he was dead, I had Sally check his body for loot, but it seemed that he wasn’t carrying anything on him. I guess some things just aren’t meant to be.
I grinded my teeth. “This is gonna make things a lot more annoying, if they can just kill themselves when we’re not looking. Oh well. I hope his death just ended the drought, but I get the feeling that it won’t be so simple.”
