Mike woke up slowly once again but felt much more well rested. For some reason after leaving his last planet he had been sleeping better. I hope it doesn’t come back when I go back there. Mike shook his head and popped his back a bit more and got out of bed. He walked out and over to where the exit door was and went outside to get in some stretching.
After his morning stretches he went back to the cockpit and slowly got his Soul-Truck back underway. He was following the route as normal when he saw a person standing off to the side of the road walking and limping. Mike slowed his Soul-Truck to a stop as they collapsed to the side.
Mike got out and rushed over to them. They were wearing a tattered cloak and looked kind of starved and skinny. They were a short 20 or so year old male and looked kind of like an explorer but maybe on account of absence of food looked weak and more bookish. Or m aye even gaunt would be a better word. Their glasses also added to this effect. He picked them up and brought them over to his Soul-Truck. It took a little bit of work to get him up all the way into his Soul-Truck. He was worried so he brought them into the cockpit and set them in the navigator chair. Mike decided to get them some food as well so he went the kitchen. He had bought some food when he was back on the first planet and so he quickly put a small dish together.
He had some ham so he threw that in the microwave. He of course had the greatest ingredient of all and the reason of existence and why god allows our pitiful existence to remain: Cheese. He put some cheese on some bread he also had from the man in that last city and essentially made a quick grilled cheese.
Mike pulled the dish out of the microwave and put it onto a small plate and brought it back with him along with a glass of water to the cockpit. When he got back they were still passed out. He decided to set the food and water down on the console in front of them. He got back in the driver chair and got back underway.
SHORT TIME LATER YIPEE
Mike had been driving for around half an hour when he could see the edge of the forest. It had already been tapering off slightly for a while but now he could see even more evidence of this phenomenon.
It wasn’t exactly a hard line of forest and other forest but you could see that it quickly morphed from a relatively dense canopy to a much more open plains. It wasn’t the same plains as his last planet though. Instead of a beautiful Yellow Sea, it was more of a green with rolling soft hills. The road passed through it and was a dirt brown. It actually didn’t ruin the scene and gave it a homely look more so. Less like the encroaching modernity destroying the planet and more like a cute village in a plains. His passenger still hadn’t stirred but Mike could see that they were still breathing so he wasn’t too too worried. It was still concerning but not full blown panic worthy. His grilled cheese unfortunately had gone could a little while ago but it was the thought that count. And it’s not like it wouldn’t be a great grilled cheese. It was still quite good in his opinion.

Suddenly mike felt a lot less bored. It wasn’t fully gone and he was still slightly bored and uncomfortable but suddenly he was more content. Than earlier would be the best way to describe it. It was quite Nice if he was being quite honest with himself.
As Mike was thinking about this he could suddenly see a bit of white smoke over the horizon. He was almost certain that he had arrived at the village.
After a bit longer he was on the outskirts of the village and he looked over at his passenger and decided that it was imperative that he should get them checked out by a medical professional. Even if this wasn’t modern Earth, magic would probably help a lot.
He was suddenly at the very edge when he decided he was close enough and got out. He went out the back and, while carrying the other person, entered the small village. It was near empty and he could see that there was almost certainly no more than 30 people here. He quickly saw another person though and so he went up to them.
“Hey! Is there a healer or something who can help my friend?”
The person he had approached was an average looking white man and looked at him confused before shrugging.
“Yeah, old healer Jim is in the center of town. Are you new around here?”
“Yeah I’m just passing through. I’m driving along and the next place I’m going is Emertonville.”
“Oh! Are you some sort of courier?”
“Yes, I suppose so.”
“Well if that’s the case we have some mail we need to send, do you mind helping us with that?”
“I mean, yeah I guess.”
“Thanks, I’ll get people mail along with where it needs to go while you are at old healer Jim’s. I’ll come get you when you are done.”
The man walked off more heppily, leaving Mike a little bit more confused. Mike shrugged and walked off to where the man had pointed him to.
When Mike arrived he wan’t either, dissapointed, or surprised, about what a place where a person called old healer Jim lived. It was a slightly worn down house, the kidneys where you would excpect an old person who didn’t have perfect mobility to live. He hoped that Jim would be able to help though. So without further wait Mike went inside to see Jim.
