Making A Route

Making A Route

Mike woke up still a bit tired. He had been extremely tired and so he didn’t actually finish setting up a route so he would have to do that today. He was not looking forward to doing even more work. He knew that this was a necessary evil though, because otherwise he would just mindlessly follow a boring and sometimes inefficient route. He stretched his back out a bit and got up. He left his bedroom and went over to his kitchen.

He opened the door and absently noted that he should try and do more decorations soon. He would need to do some more jobs to unlock more stuff. Mike went to the coffee maker and pulled out the coffee beans and other materials. He set everything up to the normal settings and left it to make some coffee for him.

Mike walked back out and into the cockpit again. He walked over to the navigation chair and admired its comfy lookingness. The setup that his Soul-Truck has was much better than what his old semi-truck had. His old setup was just an old laptop, barely not out of date maps, and some guidebooks on how to set up good routes.

His new navigation setup had probably infinitely more RAM and with his Soul-Trucks GPS he knew that it would have MUCH more up to date information on what the surroundings actually looked like. It was also much more ergonomically feasible. That probably wasn’t worth much but for some reason he was harping on that a lot and was quite interested in ergonomics of his chairs.

After looking at them for a bit he concluded both that he needed coffee and that they were quite good from an ergonomic perspective. He went back to the kitchen and got his steaming coffee into a cup and went back to the cockpit and sat down in his navigator chair.

Mike booted the programs up and waited as the three screens showed a loading icon. He didn’t know if he had seen it before but he thought it was reminiscent of the apple Mac loading curser. It was a colorful throbber but was less rainbow and more random. Mike shook his head and refocused as the screens finished loading and showed the desktop. On the screen it had another version of what looked like his System screens but 2d.

Hello! This is your Planetary Navigation Computer.

You can use the command tab on here to also interact with the System. This interacts with he System directly along with any other digital interfaces and inputs you choose to use. It automatically is connected to your other onboard computer systems but you can choose to disconnect and isolate this system at any time.

It had a the normal Earth computer user interface so he clicked the red “x” on both to close them. The background was a pure black. Mike decided that he would need to make sure that it was much more personalized.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

First he decided that he needed a background image for his computer that wasn’t just a black blank screen.

“Info. Customizing navigation computers.”

Instead of the normal screen popping up and floating in front of him it instead showed up as a screen on the navigation computer.

Customizing Can Be Accessed In The Settings Tab

Click The Gear Icon In The Task Bar To Use It

Files You Would Like To Use Can be Uploaded From Almost Any Source

“Info. Can I use photos from like past pictures that I saw in the Soul-Truck?”

Yes

He opened up the settings tab and found an option to download pictures and navigated it until he found an option to take photos that the Soul-Truck had Captured and download it. He decided to download a picture of the planet he started on from space when he was orbiting it for a short while before coming to Erus. He found on and set it as the background. A picture of his pure yellow planet on a backdrop of a sea of stars gave a great background to his computer. Next he navigated to the tab that had an option for color scheme. He decided to go with a nice blue and white color to contrast with his background as well as it jsut overall looking pretty nice in his opinion.

Mike nodded in satisfaction at his new user interface. He checked the time and saw that around two hours had passed. He refocused and opened up the scan he had from the Global Positioning System.

First he found the place he was now and the place he wanted to be on the scan. Right now the Holy Army was stationed at a town a few hundred miles away to the east. It would take a long while in order to get there so he would also need to make a few stops. He drew a few lines from the spots and then noted all of the towns that were not too far away from the central route. Next he looked for any major roads and jotted them down. He then tried a few different routes that went through the different towns at a decently common interval and traced them. He found a route that went through five different towns or villages and one city. It also had one of the shortest space and therefore also time to get from one place to another. It still had a few smaller paths more than roads that he would have to traverse a few times but it was good enough. When he got to each major human settlement he would definitely ask for some help choosing directions to go on. He was finally satisfied enough with it and set it up on the navigation computer.

Mike looked up suddenly and saw that the sun was halfway through the sky. He checked the time on the top of his screen and saw that it was around noon already. He had the route set up so he finalized it and got under way. He was off to the first town that was just out of bounds of the forest he was in named Hennderville.

LONG TIME LATER YIPEE

Mike yawned as he slowed down his Soul-Truck. He had been driving for a few hours now and was tired. He was still in the same forest he had been earlier. Normally he would have been much further along and probably would have already have been already been out of this darn forest, but the path he was following was a lot less well maintained than he was used to be on for long drives. It was still a dirt road and although it was large enough it was barely and it had less stable footing and overall just was not as safe to go faster over.

Mike looked around and continued on until he saw a clearing off to the side. He pulled over to where it was with his skittering Soul-Truck and set it down. He got out and popped his back slightly. He yawned again and walked back to his bedroom and went to sleep.
