Ch.3 What's An Atronach? Wait That's Me!

Dear Diary.

So here I am, a rock, with a system.

Too bad I don’t know what a system is.

Also, too bad I don’t have a diary.

The rock was thinking, for that was pretty much all it could do, looking over its stats took little to no time and now it had free time so it was thinking of an idea it could do. Too bad it had no hands to write with, though some ink and a quill would also help.

He had been wondering for days what his name should be, but he wanted it to be special. He made a choice... if one day he was to encounter a special someone whether it be a lover or just a companion who he trusts, he would want them to name him. For now, he could be just the rock he always was.

Still, it was always interesting that the mountain he lied upon was quite silent. He named it the Lonely Mountain. The Lonely Mountain had little to no critters, animals, or even interesting plants. It had grass, rock, a few trees here and there, maybe a couple of colorful useless flowers, but everything was simple.

He liked that aspect, though, it would mean that the mountain was likely to stay the same for a long time. The rock just sat there wondering about life, comparing the different life experiences and wondering of possible futures.

Then he was rudely interrupted.

[Ding!]

[5 minutes has passed and the user is still alive. Stage Two of the tutorial is beginning.]

[Please Say “Evolution”]

Ok, here we go again.

Evolution.

[Ding!]

[Your following choices based on the type of creature you are as listed…]

* Boulder

* Rock Troll

* Earth Elemental

* Atronach

[Ding!]

[Please Choose One…]

So… evolution if I can remember correctly is a transformation process for a creature. There can be negative as well as positive evolutions, however, it’s rare if not non-existent for evolution to recede and be something it was previously.

Ok. It seems like it is in descending order from least powerful to most powerful. So the answer is probably obvious…

However… what the hell is an Atronach?

[Ding!]

[System has detected answer in thoughts, would you like to choose Atronach? Y/N]

If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

A weird decision process appeared in the rock’s head, it was like he could think Yes or No perfectly but each felt more unique than just saying Yes or No. It was like imagine darkness for No and Light for Yes, it was a powerful imaginative process.

He was hesitant, what if an atronach was something stupid like a rock with legs but no arms, or a giant whale creature, he was on a mountain not in an ocean.

Oh well, adventure is full of risk and reward.

Yes.

[Ding!]

[You have selected Yes. You will now metamorphosis into an “Atronach”]

Ok, let’s see where this lea-

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

The surroundings started to rumble, the air seemed heavy on the mountain.

All of a sudden it was as if gravity no longer existed, thousands of rocks and pebbles started to spin in a cyclone around the small-ish rock. The rocks then seemed to bombard it with harsh hits, thuds and cracks seemed to resound out repeatedly.

Oddly, there was no physical damage to the small rock, however, there was clear change.

The small rock soon became tiny, it turned into a crystal marble that glowed a cyan glow. The nearby large and smaller rocks then took on a humanoid form, creating a separated humanoid shape where fingers could resemble, muscular rock arms formed, broad rocky shoulders formed.

The torso was large at the top and somewhat thinner at the end, it formed around the glowing cyan marble. Legs too shape, then flat rockish feet.

Finally, a bulky head resembling some sort of rocky dodecahedron-shape. It sunk into the torso and two divots which resembled eyes started to glow cyan.

The still floating pebbles then seamed to fall into places that needed support creating a 3-meter tall stone-golem entity.

Finally, cyan cracks started to appear and web out, they all formed in certain crevices and created a unique but very mesmerizing pattern, as if cyan-magma was hidden within the stone creature.

Ugh… my head. It hurts so bad.

The not-so-little rock shook its head a little bit, the weirdly d12 sided dice head seem to bob back and forth.

A few pebbles still floated around the rock creature and hovered over its shoulders. If one looked at the floating pebbles they would notice that there were a total of 8 perfectly spherical stones four floating over each rocky shoulder.

Woah… I look… badass!

Although he could still see like he previously did with that of eagle vision, he seemed to gain another sight that didn’t seem uncomfortable at all, it was that of a 3-dimensional vision. He could see a large “domain” that spread out six feet from him from all sides perfectly, it was even more clear than his “eagle” vision.

There was a particular zoom-in function that allowed him to see close where he focused on, though it seemed to be slightly straining. When he stopped focusing his vision slowly returned to the 6-foot domain around him and became slightly blurry.

I am so cool now! I am no longer tiny-rock! I am now an Atronach!

The Atronahc took a step forward… then fell.

Ow.

[Ding!]

[Congratulation on your first Evolution, this time it was free! Next time it will cost a “Quest”. In order to evolve to the peak, you must go through a real adventure!]

[Ding!]

[The system will record your changes and gather small amounts of data on your journey, be relaxed as it will not invade your privacy and will only record quests as well as increases and decreases in strengths]

[Changing records…]

[List of Changes]

* Minor Strength = Major Strength[Mortal]

* Minor Endurance = Major Endurance[Mortal]

* No Magic Capability = Major Magic Capability[Mortal]

* No Agility = Medium Agility[Mortal]

* Major Charisma = Master Charisma[Mortal]

[Ding!]

[Grades are as followed; None, Minor, Medium, Major, Master]

[Grades are split into tiers which are as followed; Mortal, Prime, Titan, Ancestor, Void, Truth,...]

[Tiers shown are only given based on planetary restrictions, Truth = Celestial]

Wow so talkative today… but it’s good to see these changes. I’ve improved so much. Though it’s surprising that I can be considered a mortal still, though it kind of does make sense, I am still made of rock. Also, it seems that if someone is to destroy my core I would surely die.

The Atronach laid on the ground for a while, it faced the sky which was now nighttime. The stars glittered brightly. The surroundings were quite bright, and there was a tinge of cyan within a six-foot radius that was barely visible.

He remembered some of the past lives. None were like this.

There was no martial arts training, there was no magic classes and universities. There was no hidden guild that he had to work from the bottom up. No temple to pray and study on how to become a buddha. It was all simplified. He was now no longer some humanoid being, he was a monster.

A cool bad-ass looking monster, one that will adventure without restriction! I want to see the stars and pluck them like candy. Maybe I will refine one and turn it into a bracelet. I want to play a game of chess with Buddha himself and visit hell on my off-day.

I will learn magic and martial arts, but I will rely on myself for victory. Tomorrow I will head down the mountain and explore… finally.
