Ch. 4 The First Quest

Ch. 4 The First Quest

When the Atronach was walking, he noticed his feet seemed to slightly morph into the ground, it wasn’t visible but he could feel almost a connection between him and the earth below.

Nice!

He quickly got used to walking, his previous lives definitely helped, and for some odd reason, he felt easy-going with the Atronach form. He didn’t think too much about it and quickly summed it up to be his personal genius.

I should start heading down now, I have a lot to look at, I wonder if I will find a bunch of elves or a secret lair of a dragon!

The enclave was more like an open dome, on one side it was all open, on the other towering walls reached up, it was extremely secluded but once found it was a rare gem. The only way to get into the enclave was a small natural corridor that led down the mountain hidden in the enclave.

The Atronach started to walk towards the corridor, the ground shook with every step.

I wonder what I should do in my life, maybe become a god? A god killer? Maybe I could be another old dude with a staff who hits his grandchildren for being incompetent. Eh… I already done and did that.

As the Atronach entered the corridor which led to a tall cavern, the enclave behind quieted down immensely. If anyone else was to enter the enclave they would almost immediately get goosebumps.

The corridor was quite long, but it was quite the sight.

Glowing mushrooms lined the floors and walls, the ceiling had many small stalactites, some of which dripped water from time to time.

When the Atronach appeared, his glowing radiance seemed to perfectly blend with the glows of the mushrooms. Greens and blue lit up the cavern and made it quite visible, though still darker than the outside.

The corridor twisted and turned, but it was only a singular path, it led down at a slight angle.

The Atronach just walked slowly and looked at everything in his sight while messing with his body.

I wonder what magic capability means in Status…

Status.

Magic capability… hmmm.

The Atronach stopped in his tracks and stroked his chin.

I wish I had a beard.

He knew of plenty of magic, however, they needed many specific things. Some needed rune-stones, some needed magic-empowered meridians, he needed a voice to summon spirits, there were dozens of more methods for magic like rituals and tools.

However, he had nothing, he was literally a rock with what he assumed was a golem core. What was even more confusing was he wasn’t just a normal Atronach or whatever. There was something special about him that even he didn’t know.

The Atronach walked through the corridor after an entire hour, it was bright from the glowing plants the entire way, and there were no branching paths. He assumed that it might be man-made, however, no memories sprouted up from any of his previous lives.

When he came out into the open he was on a cliff, the cliff overlooked a huge dark green forest that spanned quite the distance. He was just barely able to make out the edge of the forest at the horizon but it was really small and he couldn’t make out anything farther.

The Atronach loved the view and moved towards the edge of the cliff, he sat down and swung his legs in the wind. His mind was calm and empty, he just viewed nature in all of its glory.

He could even see birds flying in the sky in the forest a little ways away from the mountain.

Oh?

[Stage 3 of the Evolution System now starting…]

[You will be given a quest to complete in order to evolve once again…]

[Please say “Quest”]

Ooooh, about time. Quest.

[You are a monster who roams and like adventure, in order to survive you must be vicious, kill a monster who is at the same level of strength as yourself!]

[Monster killed: 0/1]

Oh ok, that shouldn’t be too bad, I would do that anyway as I have to prove myself as the ultimate alpha!

As he was in his thoughts, he was rudely interrupted by the system, again…

[Ding!]

[The Quest system furthermore increases rewards based on the level of completion. The better you do the better the rewards, if you can fight and win against something stronger, expect greater rewards!]

Nice! Now my stone-cold heart is beating!

The Atronach was pumped up and stood up quickly, he was pumped and ready to get into some action.

Too bad he stood up too fast.

The ground rumbled from his weight, the sturdy cliff all of the sudden didn’t seem so sturdy anymore. He wasn’t too far up, but it would still be painful even to rock monster like him.

Uh oh.

The cliff seemed to break apart instantly, cracks grew quickly from the edge all the way to the entrance of the corridor.

Why is this cliff so unstable and weak!

The Atronach plummeted and fell through the floor, the ground beneath him collapsed and was mostly just dirt, his view was clouded and he couldn’t see anything.

He adjusted his vision into his Domain and he knew he was free-falling, he noticed that what he stood on was actually just a thin piece of dirt, for a human it was fine, but for a ton-weighing creature like him, it was almost deadly.

Almost.
