CHAPTER 504
Sebastian could be considered a child born with a golden spoon. In fact, he had always been an existence that others could only admire and envy throughout his life.
If there was anything that dissatisfied him in this world, then it could only be his mother.
How great would it be if his mother were still alive?
She would surely be over the moon if she knew that he had gotten married and was now the father of two intelligent and adorable sons.
When he pictured the gentle and satisfied smile on his mother's face, the smile on his face deepened. Yet, the regret in his heart also grew stronger.
It's such a pity that...
Madeline noticed the sorrow that he tried to hide and held his hand tightly in reassurance.
He turned his head to look at her and smiled softly.
"You should get up now. The floor is freezing." Philip felt terrible that his precious grandchildren were kneeling on the cold and hard cement slab, so he quickly urged them to their feet.
"Okay." Sebastian stretched out his hand toward Madeline. "Come on."
"I think the children and I should properly pay our respects to Mom." Madeline turned to her two children and instructed, "Aldo, Buddy, please close your eyes in prayer and say hello to your
grandmother."
The two children dutifully turned to the tombstone and prayed.
"Alright, that's enough. Get up quickly." Philip personally went and helped the children to their feet.
The entire family rose to their feet together, then Sebastian casually bent down to help Madeline brush the dust off her knees.
Likewise, Philip helped his precious grandchildren brush the dust off their knees.
In truth, they were not that dusty or dirty. The men had only brushed off the dirt quickly for their peace of mind.
After Sebastian took care of Madeline and saw that his father had taken care of his children, he finally took the time to clean his pants.
She watched him with a tender look in her eyes.
At the same time, she made another promise to herself. I will definitely treat this man well. I'll be the wife he deserves! And I'm going to make him the happiest man alive!
Afterward, the entire family left the cemetery and returned to Hart Manor.
Even though they had returned home, the mood was heavy and somber. Even Joel could sense the unusual atmosphere in the air. Thus, the usually talkative child who could talk the ears off anybody
behaved himself and spoke very little that night.
They all had a good night's rest. Then, early the next day, Sebastian prepared to bring Madeline and the children home.
Philip had already prepared some presents for them.
He used most of the money he earned to help the families of his subordinates who died in the line of duty, and he had donated a small part. Therefore, he had no money to his name. His two younger brothers had sponsored all the gifts for Madeline's first visit home.
There was no denying that he was poor. The state provided all the costs for his food, housing, and transportation, and the money he earned rarely stayed in his account for more than a few days before he donated the money to others.
Nevertheless, his brothers were wealthy.
Extremely wealthy!
They also knew about his poor financial status, so they generally helped him with anything costly.
For example, most of the costs incurred during his son's wedding and his daughter-in-law's first visit home had been paid by his brothers.
Needless to say, his son was also wealthy.
Be that as it may, his brothers had insisted that it was the duty of the elders to prepare the funds for
occasions such as the wedding and the first visit home. So how could they allow the children to spend their own money?
In any case, his brothers had no children of their own. They didn't even have wives and treated his son like their own, so he did not stop them since they were willing to help him take care of his son in such matters.
Besides, they had more money than they could spend. Who could say? They might be happy to have a legitimate reason for them to throw their money around!
The gifts for Madeline's first visit home were highly luxurious. There were even antique paintings thrown into the mix!
The extravagance of the gifts prepared for the bride's first visit home indicated how much the groom's side of the family valued the bride. Accordingly, the more generous the gifts, the higher her status on the groom's side of the family.
For that reason, she was very grateful that the Harts had prepared such generous gifts for her first visit home.
She thanked Patrick and Paul profusely for their generosity. Afterward, Madeline and Sebastian boarded his private plane with the children and rushed back to Wendel City.
Meanwhile, at the Wendel Residence, the members of the Wendel Family were all accounted for today. Not only were Michael, Crystal, their four sons, and their two adopted sons present, but the rest of the extended family was also there.
Their presence also indicated just how much the Wendels valued Sebastian as their son-in-law.
Compared to the Harts, the Wendels were definitely a larger brood. The silver-tongued Joel greeted all ten of his uncles in quick succession, almost causing Madeline to become dizzy from the whirlwind of names that he chirped out happily.
Crystal hugged Joel and praised the little guy lovingly with a huge grin plastered across her face. "Oh my God, Buddy is so smart! I can't believe you didn't make a single mistake!"
"Aldo is smarter than me!" He snuggled in her arms and exclaimed loudly in his childish voice. "I called out 'uncle' so many times that I'm out of breath now, but Aldo only said 'Hello, uncles.' That sums it all up in one sentence! That's such a great idea! Why didn't I think about that?"
His childish logic was so amusing that everybody roared with laughter.
She stroked his face and happily gushed, "That's right! Buddy is the cutest, and Aldo is the smartest! I love you both!"
While she doted on her grandson, she threw a dirty glance at her four sons. "Look at yourselves! Aldo and Buddy are already so big, but you don't even have girlfriends! When will you finally give me some peace of mind? You should learn from your little sister. Quickly get yourselves a wife and give me some grandchildren!"
Nevertheless, his brothers were wealthy.
Extremely wealthy!
Although her grandsons were terrific, they were born to her daughter and ultimately belonged to the Harts due to the customs of their patriarchal society. Therefore, they could not snatch the children from Philip.
The more she loved her two grandsons, the more she wished her sons would marry as soon as possible so they could give her grandchildren, who were as adorable as Quincy and Joel.
Unfortunately, her sons were useless. Forget having a wife. They didn't even have girlfriends.
Despite having four sons, none of them had a girlfriend! Not a single one! Content is property © .
Wasn't that absolutely infuriating?
Jonathan and his brothers were speechless at their mother's tirade.
They were the prime example of being unjustly attacked just because they happened to be there.
Whom did they offend to deserve such a fate?
Joseph placed his hand on Jonathan's shoulder. "We're counting on you, Jonathan. You're the eldest, after all. As your younger brothers, we look up to you to set an example!"
"That's right!" Connor and Cedric both conveyed their absolute agreement.
"Don't you feel embarrassed saying that?" Jonathan glared at Joseph. "We're twins. You're only younger than me by a few minutes. How does that affect your ability to take a wife and have children?"
"That's not what you always say when you're trying to act as the elder brother," Joseph retorted. "Didn't you always say that you're older than me by a whole eight minutes? So even if it's only eight minutes, that still makes you the eldest!"
Jonathan couldn't even defend himself from the comeback.
When Sebastian saw the brothers quarreling with each other, he abruptly leaned over to Madeline and whispered in her ear, "I suddenly thought of something..."
"Hmm?" Madeline tilted her head to the side and looked at him.
"It suddenly occurred to me that our family will probably have similar numbers in the future!" He pressed his lips against her ear and chuckled. "After all, my wife's family has a long history of giving birth to many children!"
His words made her want to throttle him.
To say that we are good at giving birth, even a long history of giving birth to several children...
He huffed in amusement. "I wonder if your next baby will also be a pair of twins, like your mother. If it's a pair of twins, will they be both male, both females, or one of each?"
She murmured, "I think you're overthinking it. What if I only give birth to one?"
"Giving birth to one is great, too," he replied. "It'll be great if you give birth to a daughter..."
He cupped her flabbergasted face. "If you give birth to a pretty and cute daughter, then I will definitely spoil her rotten!"
