Chapter 409

CHAPTER 409

Rosetta opened her mouth, but she couldn't say a word.

Lucian sneered one last time and turned his back on him. Josiah quickly shouted, "Don't go! I did it, not your mother or brother. They're innocent. I'll give my life to you, but please, just take care of them."

Rosetta was a weak woman. She had been a full-time housewife for more than a decade now, so she couldn't live independently. His son was only a teenager who couldn't even fend for himself. If Lucian were to attack them as well, they would end up in hell.

His conspiracy was exposed, and it cost him his future. He would use what was left of his life to give his family a good life.

"You'd give your life to me?" Lucian stopped in his tracks and looked at him. "And why would I want that? Would that bring my father and Raphael back? Will Caitlin forgive me? You made me lose the people I love, so I'll make your family live through hell. That's only fair."

He wanted to kill himself every time he thought about his foster parents, and when his thoughts turned to Caitlin, he felt his heart getting torn asunder.

He didn't love this world; all he loved was Caitlin. He could lose everything, but not her. As he was the Owens' adopted son, everyone looked down and spat on him, but not Caitlin.

She saw him as her brother, and anytime anyone tried to abuse him, she would be angrier than he was. Eventually, they fell in love with each other and became a couple. Caitlin was an outspoken lady whenever she was outside, but every time they were together, she would always be gentle and ready

to listen to him.

He didn't like that everyone called him a slave to the Owens, so Caitlin would always make him feel welcome. Every other girl would act like a spoiled brat around their boyfriends, but Caitlin spoiled him instead. Anything that would be good for him, she would always give them to Lucian.

Caitlin loved him deeply, and she also told her father she wasn't interested in running a company, so she recommended Lucian as heir. Thanks to that, Raphael took him along for the ride when he was a teenager so he could learn and even introduced him to all the people whom the Owens knew.

He was also generous when it came to money. Not only would he give Lucian a big sum of pocket money every month, but he would also give him seed funds every year after he said he wanted to start a business at sixteen.

Caitlin was the one who helped him get to the point where he could kill Raphael. Without her help, he wouldn't have been able to destroy Owen Holdings.

Caitlin loved him with all her heart, but he was the reason her parents died. Will she ever forgive me?

If there was a time machine in this world, he would give anything to have it. He wanted to go back to the time when the Owen couple was still alive.

All he wanted was for the Owen couple to live, and for Caitlin to still love him.

Eventually, he decided to push on and leave, ignoring the screams of Josiah, despite how desperately

he was calling out to him.

He came back to Oasis Law Office and saw Caitlin. She used to smile all the time, but now all she had was a scowl on her face. All the color was drained from Lucian's face, and he couldn't even say a word.

She said coldly, "I thought it was urgent. If you have nothing to say, then leave. I don't want to see you."

She wouldn't even have come to see him if not for the fact she wanted to hear him admit that her father wasn't a killer and confess his mistakes. They were no longer friends or family. Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

Lucian gulped, and he suddenly knelt before her.

It took her by surprise, but only for a moment. She then looked at him icily.

Lucian hung his head low. Choking up, he said, "I'm sorry, Caitlin. I'm sorry. The one who killed my dad was Josiah, not your father…"

Caitlin felt a lump in her throat and tears welled up in her eyes shortly after. All her hard work finally paid off. She finally proved that her father was no killer. I cleared your name, Dad.

Lucian clenched his fists, nails digging into his palms. He apologized, "I'm sorry, Caitlin. It's all my fault. I'll accept any punishment." His voice trembled. "I'll do anything, just forgive me, please."

"No, I don't think I will." She kept her eyes on him and enunciated, "Some parents always plan ahead for their children, just like mine. They stashed enough money for me to live out the rest of my life abroad. I don't need anything even if my family goes bankrupt. All I want is for my parents to be here. I'll forgive you if you can revive them, but if you can't, then please stay away from me. Don't disturb my

life. Just pretend we never knew each other."

She should have taken it out on Lucian and avenged her parents, but she couldn't do it. Before Natasha died, she told Caitlin that vengeance was poison to the mind. She wanted Caitlin to never hate anyone.

"If this is what fate wants, then so be it," Natasha said. "If you still like him, and he's still nice to you, then you can marry him. Don't care about anything else."

She used to love Lucian deeply, but no more. She lost all love for him when her parents died.

Even though her love was lost, she couldn't take it out on Lucian anyway. He might be a heartless b*stard, but her parents were not. He might have hurt them, but they wouldn't harm him back.

Some parents would always forgive their children, even if their children had hurt them many times. Her parents were that kind of people. Even though Lucian caused their deaths, they still wanted him to live well.

They bore guilt against Lucian. Raphael thought if he hadn't asked them out for that hiking session, Lucian's father wouldn't have died. My parents were kind souls. They wouldn't want me to get caught in the web of hatred and fight Lucian.

She worked her butt off every day just to find the truth and clear her father's name. Vengeance was never the goal. Now that her father's name was cleared, her job was done. Nothing else mattered. All she wanted was for her and Lucian to go their separate ways and never meet again.
