Prologue - The Taste of Ambrosia

Prologue - The Taste of Ambrosia

“Hmm… hmm…” Enderian moans. Slowly, his eyes open. He was on the rocky ground and seemed to be in a cave of some sort. There were rocks all around, and some of them seemed to glow, offering the darkness a dim light. “Where am I?” Enderian asks himself.

Enderian's body ached all over, but he pushed himself to stand. What happened? Enderian wonders. His mind still groggy and hindered, he tries to remember the last thing that happened.

He was going to school when… Enderian lets out a groan. That's when I got hit by a bus. He thinks mournfully.

Enderian lets out a sigh before considering the situation. So am I dead? Is this the underworld? Don’t tell me there are demons here? He begins to think, somewhat anxiously.

A little worried, but determined to figure out where he was, Enderian decides to explore…

So Enderian picks a path and begins to walk…

A half an hour passes…

Then an hour…

After a while, he didn’t know how long he had been walking. The paths seemed to go on endlessly; some converged back into other paths, previous paths, and some seemed to loop back to where Enderian previously was, and some, led to different levels of the cave. It seemed to be some sort of labyrinth, something meant to confuse and diminish one’s sense of direction. Enderian had no idea where was going, and he had no idea where these paths led, if anywhere. But he continues walking…

Eventually, a hazy fog seems to spring up out of nowhere. A heavy mist, dimly lit by the reflected light of the glowing rocks.

Enderian lets out a sigh. Fuck it. I’ll probably starve here anyways; might as well let my feet lead me forward. He thinks with defeat.

Eventually, the fog engulfed everything, and the glowing rocks seemed to fade. Enderian was surrounded only by humidity and darkness… But Enderian’s feet continue to move… And oddly enough, no walls hindered him and his path forward seemed to be clear.

Then…

A red glow appears in the distance. Enderian’s groggy mind becomes stimulated, and drawn to the only light he could see, he walks towards it…

Slowly, but surely, Enderian creeps his way forward, and then, he could see it. It was a round red ball, almost translucent, and glowing.

As if Enderian’s mind recognized what it was, his mouth began to salivate, and with a smooth motion of his hand, he picks up the ball. Then, ruthlessly and without hesitation he takes a big bite out of it.

***DING***

Mesmerized by the taste, Enderian doesn’t seem to notice the sound, the signal heralding his future. No, he ignores it and continues to ravage the round red fruit. Bite after bite, he continued to chew and consume, until… It was gone…
