Chapter 7 - Consumed

Chapter 7 - Consumed

Ameliah places two tomes on the table with a smile, “10,000 coins in credit and it is in our hands,” She says with a breath of relief.

On the table were two heavy books, Accumulating Magical Energy, and Awakening Battle Energy.

Enderian picks up one of the books, skimming through the introduction. He raises an eyebrow, “Critical situation? Imminent threat of death!?” He says, his eyes widening. “No, no way, I’m not doing that,” He says with a shake of his head.

Ameliah frowns, puts her hands on her hips, “Oh, don’t be a baby. What’s a little threat of death to awaken your Battle Energy? And there’s no reason to whine, I read a few chapters of it, it says Battle Energy can also be awakened with the help of medicine.” She says.

Enderian raises an eyebrow. “Medicine?” He asks.

Ameliah smiles, “Yeah,” she says, placing a bag on the table; through the opening, a white powder could be seen. “Its called Adreno.” She says.

Enderian’s eyes widen, he grabs some of the powder and puts it on his gums. He lets out a laugh, “Why do you have a bag of cocaine?” He asks, very amused.

Ameliah’s brows furrow, “What’s cocaine? This is Adreno. You drink it in a tea before a battle and it assists you with awakening your Battle Energy.” She says.

Enderian shakes his head, “Cocaine and fighting, seems like a dream,” he says with a chuckle.

“Can you stay focused?” Ameliah asks, picking up the other book. “This one is important as well, this will guide us to becoming First Circle mages; magic has a wide variety of uses, and to adventurers facing uncertain situations, being able to use magic could be the difference between life and death.” She says.

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

Enderian sighs. “Yes mom, awaken battle energy, become a mage. When do we start?” He says.

Ameliah smiles. “When we’ve read these two books, we can begin. I’ll ask one of the administrators about it, to confirm a plan for us to get what we need,” she says, greed in her eyes.

Enderian smiles, “Yes, boss,” he says.

...

...

...

“Drink it!” Ameliah calls.

Enderian’s face scrunches up and he forcefully allows the concoction to enter his mouth. Enderian swallows and begins to frown, “It burns, my whole body is burning,” he says.

Ameliah takes in a deep breath, “I know, isn’t it great,” she says with an exhale.

Rat looks over and shakes his head. “You two ready?” He asks. He was chaperoning this party; if things got too out of hand, he would be prepared.

Up ahead was a goblin cave; there was sure to be at least 5-10 goblins in there. Goblins weren’t difficult to defeat, but the fire burned strong in these little things. The instinct to survive was a great burden to these beasts, and anxiety drove them to a great many things, poison, traps, and sometimes magic. If a goblin tribe was to get too big, it wasn’t uncommon for their technology to begin making jumps, which, in a nice and breezy world, would be wonderful, but unfortunately, this kingdom was ruled by men; a threat as potent as these goblins, had to be controlled and carefully managed. Unfortunately for goblins, this meant genocide; fertility and population control at a ruthless level. Having beaten down by humanity time and time again, most have been reduced to mere monsters, little demons.

“I’ve heard a story about a kingdom of goblins once; I hear they had flying wagons,” Ameliah says, her eyes wide. “Anyways, lets get some blood on our hands!” She says, raising her axe.

Enderian laughs, “How wired are you right now?” He asks.

“Let’s kill something already,” Ameliah calls, rushing out of the woods and into the clearing.

Enderian lets out a sigh and follows, armed with his new sword. “May the fire consume us all,” he says.

“Acckkk!! Gambino amino yah!” A goblin calls out to his brethren in the cave, preparing himself and raising a large butcher’s knife.

Ameliah doesn’t wait, and her axe swings outwards. The goblin raises his butcher’s knife to block, but the wild strength, driven by drugs and Ameliah’s fire, rips the butcher knife from the goblin’s grip. Ameliah doesn’t hesitate, with a ruthless swing, her axe lodged itself in the goblin’s throat, almost separating the goblin’s head from his body.

“Awak! Kurat!” A goblin calls out exiting the cave.

Enderian was there to greet the wild swings of the goblin’s scythe. At this point, the drug had completely pulled Enderian’s mind out of the narrative, and his body was moving instinctively; swing, clash, swing, clash. Enderian was blocking each strike, and he had the strength to push the goblin back. The goblin’s footing falters and he trips; Enderian was upon him in a moment, piercing his sword into the goblin’s neck.

After the kill, his sword drenched in blood, his eyes widen. Whatever heat was flowing within him began to pulse, faster and faster, until the energy washed over him, consuming him. Enderian’s eyes become red, and he rushes into the cave...
