The Realmwatch
The Realmwatch was irritated. It had prepared an elaborate, contrived plan to deal with the baby, a plan that was now being ruined due the stubborn idiocy of one maybe-reptile. What was it with these animals and their obsession with their offspring? What was the problem if it had used the eggs to decorate the entrance to the next part of the Trial?
It wasn’t as if either of those unborn critters were going to amount to anything. And now its wonderful plan was ruined as the most powerful monster in the entire Trial realm that was supposed to guard Isengaurd had ventured into the Woods of Arnile taking all of the monsters in the mountains with it.
The Realmwatch once again sent a command to the reptile.
“Cease. Return to your position or you will be punished”
In return it received a roar and some vague emotions. Interpreting the intentions of these primitive creatures was too great a chore it decided. Next time it would just take a few of those humanoid bastards. There were too many of them anyway.
Spending even more of its time on enabling the translation skill, it answered the reptile.
No, I don’t care if they are your only children. You will return to your post.
“Roar! Roar!” More roars and more emotions. No decent answers
“Are you sure you are sentient? How can you not understand this simple thing, if you do not return now, you will die. And so will your children.” That should do it.
“Roar! RRROOOAAARRR” the reptile roared before cutting the connection off. Did it truly think that the Realmwatch could do nothing to it in the Trial realm? If it wasn’t for the fact that interfering would ruin any chance of it finding out what the baby had in store the disobedient pest would be dead!
Now it had no choice but to release all the monsters on the baby at once. At least the baby should show some interesting things before it dies.

Alforien
As soon as I heard the cry, I called out, “Everyone, dispel the shadows and prepare for an attack!” THough it would seem that I didn’t need to, they understood it themselves. The shadows were disappearing at a rapid rate, the men were arming themselves. The army was ready to face the next challenge.
Another screech rang out in the distance as I saw dozens of large, presumably carnivorous birds cross the treeline. Down on the ground, a small army of horned boars had emerged.
“I’ll deal with the birds, you deal with the boars” I yelled as I levitated myself to the birds level. It was time for war.
Knowing that there could be another for waiting, I decided to dispatch the bird quickly. I summoned a twirling horizontal pillar of fire that twirled around the leading bird and incinerated it.
I then moved to do the same to the other birds. I killed five more before the birds found a way to fight back. Whenever the fire came near they would come together and flap their wings. This would keep the fire from approaching them completely.
Sadly for them, that was not even close to the last trick in my repository, I summoned a small, largely ineffective rain of fire around them. It did no great damage, but it did burn the wings each time a bird spread them.
Do it once or twice? No problem. Do it thrice? One degree burns…and like that the burns suddenly started dropping from the sky. Right into a mass of charging boars. Maybe I should have used the rain from the beginning. I hadn’t thought about how they would fall, I'd just wanted to remove their ability to flap their wings.
With the birds dealt with I turned to the boars. But to my shock, the boars were mostly dead. Not killed by the army, but by the influx of strange tiger-like beasts that were rapidly dancing towards the army.
What was this? A wave attack? But then it would have been timed such that the two waves wouldn’t attack each other. So what was going on? Actually, why was I wondering that? My job now was to kill them. Not to wonder where they came from. That could be done later.
Hmm, the forest was fireproof so fire would be less effective…but it did have plenty of Earth. Time to kill them. I summoned my mana and had the rock below jut upward. Piercing the rushing tigers and killing dozens of them. Many more were injured. That also gave an opportunity for the army and the boars to attack and kill the tigers.
There were still several deaths on the army’s side. Eclipsing even the casualties in the party. And there were still more waves on the way. And the next had arrived right then too.

Arlun
Arlun found himself surrounded by strange, humongous and neon green snakes. There were about a dozen of them arrayed against him. Seemingly considering which of them was going to eat him. Too bad he had no intention of being eaten. Ever.
Summoning the same magic fire that he had a few days ago at the Camp, he set the snakes aflame. Jumping high, he then avoided the flames altogether. Usually he would avoid using his stats so blatantly, but he somehow doubted that his fellow soldiers would find his powers shocking after the Prince’s demonstrations.
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
Setting the Woods of Eltemar on fire. Killing an entire wave of reptilian birds in a rain of fire. Floating in the air for hours on end. Jumping a bit higher than normal was nothing before all of that.
Now to go see what Carmil was up to.
----------------------------------------
Carmil
Carmil had now learnt why the Prince insisted on fighting alone. Even with his meager magic, fighting with the army was just too slow. All the soldiers took too long to fight each beast while he could just mana-pierce a few at a time.
After spending half an hour doing the work of twenty men he had chosen to just go ahead and kill more beasts. A mistake. The situation would be more threatening if the beasts could actually do anything to him. INstead they could only force him to go on the defensive.
A bad position tactically, but well, it was hard to be worried for your life when any beast that approached him died instantly. Really, it was just the number that was the problem, and the trees were doing a good job of stopping them from rushing in. That and the fact that they tended to kill each other whenever they got the chance to do so.
Sighing, Carmil went back to killing the beasts. Maybe he’d run out of things to kill in a few hours.

Korin, Commander of the 6th battalion
Korin was having a hard time commanding the army. It seemed that there was a difference between fighting an army that was hiding behind walls and fighting a horde of beasts in the jungle. Especially when the beasts kept killing each other.
THere had been defense formations, attack formations that he had prepared in the event of an attack. Now he wondered if he would actually be able to use them. It was rather hard to do a manoeuvre when you and the enemy kept changing, and kept coming in large numbers.
On the surface the battle was going well. The waves were being dealt with and casualties were low. But the fact was that waves lasted only 15 minutes before dying away while killing another portion of the army. Little by little the army was dying while the waves seemed to have no intention of ending.
Coming to these Woods may have been a bad idea after all.
