Chaper 68- A suprise interoggation

Alforien

I woke up slowly, as if I was a piece of wood floating up from beneath the sea. But all of a sudden I broke the surface and into wakefulness. This time, fo the first time in over a week, I woke up without a headache.

Taking a deep breath, I let it out slowly, not wanting to disturb the peaceful state of my mind with thoughts. Sadly, the thoughts came anyway, I had yet to reach a level of control that I could stop them.

I looked around, calming at the familiar surroundings. So back in Algrea it was. The Trial had ended, now it was time to finally open those notifications.

Your insistence on not opening stat sheets has caused a compiling error. Please keep still while the System remedies this. You now have a three hour limit for seeing the notifications

Are you kidding me, System? I was in the middle of a battle! Seeing notifications was not an option! And the fact that you are not telling me the penalty makes me even more upset about your actions!

Strength[The amount of brute force one can use]

170 (+61)

Endurance[The amount of time one can work continuously]

228 (+65)

Flexibility[The range of movement of the body]

155 (+51)

Precision[The accuracy of one’s movements]

163 (+50)

Perception[The ability to notice nuances and advanced concepts]

190 (+57)

Intelligence[The ability to comprehend the advanced concepts]

200 (+60)

Aura Force[The ability to force your will on your surroundings]

Combat[The speed of one’s reactions, ability to process situations and other general combat abilities]

At least the gains were good. A lot of stats it would seem. That stupid teacher of mine was going to be speechless, Combat was now my highest stat followed by Aura Force. The two stats that had been on the lower side before. How nice.

Now for the next one

You have gained multiple title options, you may only keep one.

[Completer of the Trial Of War] : Many tried, all failed. But you are not one of them, as the first to complete the Trial you gain access to a random item. Since the Trial was a Primal ranked one, the item will be below Grade 1

[Logistics Master]: By organising, feeding a decrepit army into a working one, you gain access to the Logistics SubSystem.

[WarLord]: Loyalty. Strategic Thinking. Discipline. These are things you inspired within your army during the Trial. As such you gain access to the element of your choice: Order

This title may be levelled..

This was a choice? Or did you stint on the other two titles because you knew I'd choose Warlord? Answer System.

Please refrain from making baseless accusations against the System.

Whatever you say System. It isn’t as if you confirmed my words just now. Grinning, I summoned the next notification

You also gain the title:

[Coming of Change]: A transmigrator, by their very nature bring change. You take a step forward. You have brought about change that not even one of the most powerful denizens unde the System could anticipate. Reward: Launeior gains the trait- [Mana Rich]

[Mana Rich]- The soil, the air, the environment of Algrea is now permeated with magic. This raises Launeiors natural mana source to 1% of Algrea’s lands of lowest mana density.

I was happy too early. I thought I had got a powerup, instead I had a catch up. Now I know why Launeior had no takers despite all the apparent potential. It had no resources to give. Ugh..what land had Meemauy stuck me with?

“Scee” The sound of the door opening emerged, declaring the presence of an unknown man in the room. I would have presumed him to be a servant if not for the fact that he was wearing what seemed to be some very expensive clothes.

So I instead said, “Hello”. I moved to sit but was stopped by the man who said, “No need, i’m just here to get a few answers.”

“So, as if I understand correctly, you entered a Trial called the Trial of War, correct? One that no one has ever returned from?” he asked

“Yes, but”- suddenly the man interrupted me and said, “Yes and no answers only please. I am presuming that to be a yes.”

“And you gained no benefits?” he continued

“Well no, I gained the title [Warlord], it- “ I began before the man once again interrupted me

“So nothing that benefits the family? Only a title of War in the times of peace? How nice. Now could you please describe to me the events of your Trial in a chronological order? And don’t even try to move off topic or give an inaccurate rendition. My Skill [Forceful Debrief] is active so you will not be able to. Now, answer my question.” he said, looking very smug. What did he have against me?

Over the next few hours, he grilled me on the details of the Trial, somehow making each and every part sound negative.

Apparently, I had ignored the army’s needs for food so that I could enjoy quicker travel. Been running around in the air while the army died. Lazed around while I could have trained. Slacked on responsibility. Not set a sufficient guard. The list continued.

It made scarcely any sense, but for some reason my family, a family I had thought my greatest support and had looked forward to returning to was treating me as a criminal. I should have known better I suppose. There had been signs that woman I reported was merely the most prominent of them.

But I had ignored the signs, believing that the family was just that, a family. But it would seem that I was wrong. It was an institution. One that cared for itself, first and foremost. There was no space for ‘me’, I was merely a cog in the machine to them. A cog that was taking too many resources and was being too selfish it seemed.

“That will be all. You may experience a retraction of resources but I am sure you can earn them back if you work hard enough. Remember, you are a Primal now. You have to pull your weight.” The man said, not even bothering to look at me as he said this.

I noticed that the man had never once said my name, clearly the man had never even bothered to learn it. The man left, leaving me back in the same silent room as before. But I was no longer blissful. A sinking feeling sat in my heart. My mind refused to quiet, jumping from one doom scenario to another.

I sat up, no longer able to be still. Then moved out, out of the now claustrophobic room. Out of the plush hallways leading to grandiose halls. Out of this massive monument to the wealth and power of my so called ‘family’

I exited the estate and continued walking, past the houses, the gates, the servants past it all. At one point the surroundings began to blur and I just kept walking. Walking and walking until I found myself staring at a valley full of snow. Apparently it was winter here. How nice.
