Besides these two, many people were fighting for their lives. Renga was riddled with wounds but he stood his ground.
The arrival of Abdin and the four hundred or so soldiers behind him had further pushed the invading army back. But they were still outnumbered and if the battle continued like that, they would lose and would have to fall back.
Abdin smiled again, this time almost imperceptibly. War was the only thing that could bring together the diverse groups he had gathered in the castle. Once everyone realized their lives were on the line, they would join hands and fight with everything they had to survive. After the war, they would become war brothers and sisters.
There were many times in history when the people in power used such methods to unify their people.
Abdin didn't create this war to unify them, but he would use it to his advantage. His best guess was that the invading soldiers had attacked indiscriminately and that forced the disciples from Will of San to join hands with Renga to retaliate. No matter what had happened, he would welcome the unification of his soldiers.
Abdin created three lightning bolts and threw each at one ladder. The warriors on them had seen the incoming attack but they couldn't dodge it. Most of them felt there was no need to dodge since such attacks couldn't scratch the wooden ladder brought from another world.
But the next thing that happened shocked everyone. An ear-deafening sound rang as the three ladders exploded. Hundreds of warriors fell to the ground and crushed their comrades below.
Most of them died before hitting the ground, the remaining few died after being smashed into a pulp.
Abdin didn't give them any breathing space. He immediately created hundreds of lightning bolts and leveled the field. To him, such a task was child's play. He'd been doing it for countless years. It hurt that his soul disc had been flashing with a warning light and informing him of the cost, but he couldn't bother with that now. If everything went smoothly and he successfully averted this attack, the castle would reward him handsomely.
The bombardment continued for the next five minutes. The sound of the explosion had overshadowed the wailing of the dying hyenas and their masters.
When the dust settled, there was nothing left but charred corpses and cinder. A mutated hyena was fleeing for its life toward the distant forest. Abdin used a normal arrow to shoot it down.
The struggle on the wall was forced to a stop. Tairen and his men were struck dumb, they'd never expected Abdin to have such power. It was clearly beyond his father's cultivation level. How fortunate he had been to not anger this monster.
The other side had an uglier expression. Their knees were weak and they didn't have any courage to attack again.
Abdin turned around and looked at them. All of them fell on their knees, trembling. Most were just foot soldiers that were only slightly more powerful than an ordinary foundation establishment stage cultivator. Abdin wanted to question them about their motives and origin, but it would be difficult to get any new information from a simple foot soldier.
He walked to one of them with a solid-looking foundation and grabbed his neck.
"Where did you come from? Who ordered you to attack us? Who's leading you? How long have you been in Biyakis? What's your relationship with emperor Biyakin?"
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
Abdin released his imposing might into the man and almost frightened him to death.
"It's... It's... the..." With a shaking voice, the man started explaining but was interrupted from behind.
"Don't you think you should be the one answering these questions? You have invaded our continent, we are just protecting ourselves. Who ordered you to attack us? Who's your leader?"
Abdin turned around slowly. The speaker was prince Jubu, standing a few meters away from him. Behind him was an old man with grey hair which Abdin immediately recognized, commander Kininura.
Seeing these two people answered his questions. But there was still something he needed to know.
He strangled the man and threw him down the wall before walking forward to stand in front of Jubu.
He had a score to settle with this prince. The young man had led Abdin to his death in a previous loop when he marked him with the ant tattoo. Abdin was just trying to save them from Laluri but the prince had cunningly put a mark on him. This was a time for revenge.
"Jubu, Kininura, seeing you here gives me the wrong impression. I can't help but think Biyakis has a hand in this invasion. Can you explain yourselves?"
Jubu and Kininura frowned. From his tone, it was apparent that this man knew them, but this was the first time they were seeing him. Before they killed him, they needed to ask him some questions.
"You will answer one of our questions, and we will answer one of yours, how does that sound?" Said Jubu. He was unperturbed by all the burning corpses of his soldiers around him, or at least he looked like that.
They'd seen how powerful Abdin was even from the distance. Even though his cultivation was only at the foundation establishment stage, the reality of the situation said otherwise. They still had the certainty of victory but the war could drag on. They might even be able unable to take him in alive. So it would only be wise to hear him out first.
Abdin shrugged and agreed. "I want to know where this army has been hiding all this while, why I couldn't see them even with my spiritual sense?"
Jubu scratched his forehead and looked at the ground. This was a sensitive question that he would prefer not to answer, but since Abdin was going to die anyway... "From the underground."
Abdin frowned. "If you are going to lie anyway, what's the use of answering the question?"
Jubu was confused. He didn't lie, what did Abdin mean?
Abdin shrugged and said, "I have already dug hundreds of meters into the ground, I didn't see anything."
Jubu chuckled. "That's maybe because they weren't there when you check. I have answered your question already. What brings you here, we received word about this castle several weeks ago, we would have seized it if we have known it was this powerful?"
If they had known it was this powerful? Idiots always thought his power came from the castle. They were correct in that aspect, but they were wrong in thinking they could also use the castle to muster the same power. He took a hundred years just to master this power and he was born with it. Others could only dream.
On the other hand, he could agree with the prince's answer. Maybe the soldiers didn't arrive at the time he checked. That would speak of an entirely different scenario that would involve a legendary rank transportation portal and other spatial manipulation abilities. But if truly there was a portal and it opened under the ground, there must be some digging involved. None of the soldiers carried any dirt on them. There must be something else he didn't know about.
"I have come to this continent to cultivate." Abdin was certain that was his original goal, so he answered honestly.
Jubu narrowed his eyes. In all of this vast world, this man chose to come to Biyakis to cultivate... It didn't sound plausible at all. "Someone who has come to cultivate, what is he doing with an army? Shouldn't you be hiding somewhere and going into seclusion?"
"That's my nature of seclusion," Abdin said.
Jubu suddenly realized the man was toying with him. He didn't have any intention of answering his questions.
On his part, Abdin knew he was telling the truth.
They stared at each other for a few seconds before Jubu raised his hand at the old man behind him.
The old man disappeared from his position and appeared above Abdin in midair. He had an unshaped ax in his hands and was aiming at Abdin's skull. He didn't make a sound and his movements didn't seem to carry any excessive force. But Abdin could see through the disguise. This man was a master - dodging his attack at this angle was almost impossible.
