Maevis brought the staff high above her head, crashing it down until the crystals glittered in the air.
The blue haired girl didn’t hesitate bringing her palm up to me, a small ball ignited in the middle. Miniature fireballs shot straight for me, in rapid succession.
The tips of my ears tingled as my fingers trembled. Heart pounding so loud that everything else became drowned out. Is this fear? God no, Pure, and utter excitement.
I put two of my fingers together and aimed them upwards, seamlessly erecting an iceberg from the ground in front of me, blocking the pathetic excuses for elemental magic. She didn’t stop there though, she continued to send her flames through the ice.
“Tsk. Fight me coward!”
I could hear the frustration in her voice as she fired away, is this what she had to offer? Is she merely made for defense and that demonstration earlier was her trump card? However, I should at the very least honor her request.
Die.
I tucked in my middle finger and held my index up to my face, the iceberg raising the higher I went. I slowly pointed my finger to her direction, the ice shifting like a puppet on a tight woven string. It wasn’t until the whole iceberg became horizontal, hovering off the ground with the tip aiming right at her.
I could see from the reflection of the ice that she is terrified. Mouth agape as she continued wasting her energy trying to break the ice. The temperature of the room grew chilly from the spell, my breath becoming visible with each exhale.

“Do you see the difference in our strengths now? Beg and I might just spare you the wounds.” I taunted, ready to flick the whole thing right at her.
She faced her head down, hair dangling over her eyes. Is she...trembling? Crying? Pitiful. I brought my index to my thumb, jittering from head to toe.
As I was about to let it fly, with swift movement, she slapped her hands together and a whirlwind of an inferno sprouted from where the ice hovered, surrounding it thoroughly. I could feel my magic hold of the ice fading, being melted by the heat. Extraordinary! She had this up her sleeve the whole time?
The fire dropped down, leaving only steam in its wake. My ears perked to the sound emanating in front of me. The steam rose high and behind I could see the girl clutching at her stomach. She is...laughing? I stared at her, dumbfounded. She laughed with the most ugly expression I’ve ever seen.
I showed my teeth and the corners of my mouth turned upwards. Looks like I underestimated her strength. She managed to erect the flame pillar at a distance instead of from her palm. She is at least a cut above the others in our class.
“Nice one, Leah!” yelled a tall girl with pointy ears in the crowd of our classmates.
I looked over at the blue haired girl in front of me, still bustling with nervous laughter.
“So your name is Leah? It’s pretty. Somewhat too pretty for someone with such a fierce nature.”
I held my hand towards her, the steam in the air being gravitated to my fingertips. The steam condensed itself into small spheres, crystallizing back into ice as they hovered over each of my fingers I clenched my fist then spread them out again, shooting ice pellets right at her. She held her palm up once again and a fire wall erected in front of her, melting the ice on contact.
So, she’s able to control the intensity and duration of her flames...interesting indeed. I never expected for someone in the class to be at this level already.
“Had enough yet? Leo.” said Leah.
Her fist at her side, started to become enveloped in fire, the flames made an audible crackling over the almost silent backdrop. To my surprise, she dropped her flame wall and darted straight for me!
I erected another ice berg a few inches away from my face. Running straight at me? Did she already forget that I co—
My eyes widened, the iceberg shattering in front of me, sending the particles in the air like it’s snowing. The girl shot through the iceberg and lunged for my jaw. I moved my hand to gather the ice in the air but she is too fast!
I saw stars after being sent flying a few feet back, landing flat on the ground. I could feel the fire that whipped my face. I brought my fingers to my cheek and looked at it, seeing the crimson blood on my fingertips.
“Ha! This will be more fun than I imagined.”
