Chapter 14

I stood up, floating her into the air at the snap of my finger. Done with worrying about the burden, I glance around my surroundings.

Other than rubble and blackened bones, there were odd bits stuck between crevices. I walked over to what looked like a silver cube stained with soot. I bent down and waved a hand to remove the debris directly covering it. I lifted it up and rubbed off some of the soot. Showcasing a silver cube with almost white engravings in a swirling pattern.

I remembered seeing this language before. Elven, I think.

I moved my hand left to put it in a private dimensional vault but when I released my grip. It clattered to the floor. I knew I channel magic. Maybe, I messed up? I picked it up and tried again.

Same result

“Seems like you are out of juice too.” said Leah sitting lotus in the air.

I looked over my shoulder at her, giving her an all you can eat, look. Are you stupid? And weren’t you scared of heights?

Moving my hand up and down, Leah’s body rapidly shook in the air. Like shaking a soda pop that you wanted a friend to open.

“Not possible.” I retorted with satisfaction.

“S-stop it! So childish!” Leah stuttered.

I fingered the cube, thinking of what to do with it. I sigh and throw it behind me. Standing up and dusting off my pants.

I didn’t hear a clatter and glanced back to see Leah catching it with both arms in the air.

“What is this?” Leah rolled it between her palms.

I sighed. “Didn’t you say you were tired? So why do you keep running your mouth.”

I shook her once more.

There was a soft thud as I began walking down the only clean enough area with Leah floating right behind me. Taking in the surrounding crack walls and precarious pillars and ceiling.

“So what did you do with the old Leo?” asked Leah.

“Who is to say I am not Leo?” I questioned right back.

The corridor was quite long and full of dust and random crap. I wondered what they used this floor for.

“The old Leo was a kind person. He would never pick fights or taunt people the way you do.” said an ultra naive little girl.

“I am very kind. Didn’t I save you?” I joked and turned to the long spiral staircase. I peeked my head around the bend and it was dark. Not a shred of light could be seen.

She snorted. “I saved you. Plus you destroyed the library, aren’t you ashamed?”

I glanced at her and wondered if she was a moron. “I was attacked. My attacks barely harmed the library and if they did. So what? Someone can just repair it with magic.”

I emphasize so by repairing the steps that were cracked in front of me.

“Those guys didn’t have enough power to destroy Dragon’s leather bound books. Plus I witnessed your lightning strike setting fire to them.” She crossed her arms. Examined me with that investigator look.

“Not like they can’t repair the books with a simple snap, I’ve seen the headmaster do it in two.” I said while taking a tentative step onto the stone step.

“You can’t repair those kinds of books with magic. They are supposed to be impervious to such magic.” She sounded like she was the one hurt and not some low quality books.

I didn’t care too much about books that could just be rewritten. Plus if they were really important, the cyclops can use his eye beam shit.

“You know, people won’t think you are stupid if you don’t speak.” I said, summoning a glowing orb.

Casting the stairwell in light, not more than five steps away from me. Unknown darkness was scarier than being in a dungeon with an imbecile. No, I was wrong. That was backwards. Being in a dungeon with an imbecile is more scary than the unknown darkness.

We reached the top of the steps with only our walking being the sound between us, Leah dropping to her feet somewhere in the middle. If she was going to get mad, why even ask me in the first place?

I peered into the doorway, but the room was too dark to see anything. I heard the flickering beside and I glanced down to see Leah failing to spark her magic once again.

“I hate to say it, but I can’t conjure up anything still. Do you know any spells to give us some light?”

“I’m not like you.”

I held my palm out and visualized the golden spheres from before. Sun lumination. Six dim golden balls floated out of my palm and into the room, spreading out to separate areas. Luminate.

“What the hell is that doing here.”

I can hear the fear in her voice. But I share her sentiment, what is that doing here.
