Chapter 8 : On the train

Fukushima was not far from them, but they had to take a train to get there. At this moment, the couple was on their way to Fukushima aboard the train.

Teru thought, his wife must be feeling quite intrigued riding a train for the first time.

In truth, Muzan had taken the train many times before, even witnessing its inception.

However, she was interested in the festival they were heading to because she and Teru had first met at a festival. Since that time, they hadn't attended any other festivals together.

Muzan idly gazed at the countryside scenery outside the window. At first, it was mildly entertaining, but soon enough, it became monotonous and dreary.

"How much longer until we reach Fukushima?" she wondered.

Suddenly, it seemed like something was happening in a nearby train car.

Curiosity led Teru to walk forward, and he found a handsome man lying on the floor. Standing next to him was an immensely tall figure, about 7 feet tall, easily towering over the train's ceiling, dressed in a black uniform with a robe draped over, and wearing Buddhist prayer beads, appearing to be a monk.

"Is there a doctor here?"

His loud voice caught the attention of people in four or five nearby train cars, and they leaned in to see what was happening.

"I am a doctor!"

Teru quickly arrived at the patient's side. Kagaya was pale and sweating, lying on the floor, his expression contorted in pain.

"Sudden illness, perhaps?"

Without waiting for the tall man to respond, Teru retrieved a pill from his portable bottle and helped the patient swallow it with water.

Soon, Kagaya began to feel somewhat better, and the onlookers dispersed.

"I am Kagaya Ubuyashiki. This is Gyomei Himejima, my friend. Due to my weak constitution, I requested his company." Kagaya explained, coughing lightly.

"My lord, we are your swords, your protectors. 'Friend' is too humble a word for me," Gyomei Himejima said, kneeling on one knee. Despite being on the ground, he was nearly as tall as Teru.

Another member of the Demon Slayer Corps?

Teru handed him a whole bottle of medicine, thinking he was Kagaya's bodyguard.

"This medicine was specifically for handling sudden illnesses. If such a situation arises again, you'll know how to handle it." Teru said.

Gyomei Himejima turned to look at him, and Teru realized that he was blind. Tears flowed as he said, "Thank you so much, doctor. May I know your name and contact information? If it's not too much trouble."

"I'm Teru, Teru Watanabe. Here's my name card," Teru took out his business card and handed it over, "If you need any medical assistance, you can reach out to me through mail."

Kagaya pulled out a check, wanting to hand it to Teru, but he shook his head and walked away.

Muzan had been waiting for him for quite a while.

What a peculiar doctor! But a good person, Kagaya Ubuyashiki smiled. Gyomei Himejima, the Pillar, knelt with hands clasped, praying.

The moment Muzan saw him, she knew he was the current head of the Kagaya family. If she killed him, the Demon Slayer Corps would likely collapse on its own.

Her mind churned with murderous intent. Should she strike now, knowing that Teru, an ordinary person, wouldn't see her actions?

No, there's no need to spoil the mood for the festival. Muzan blinked her crimson eyes, and in her mind, she ordered Kokushibou, who had been nearby the entire time, "Once we get off the train, find an opportunity to kill Kagaya Ubuyashiki."

Just then, Teru returned, bringing an unexpected person along.

"Muzan-sama, you're here too!"

Daki waved happily. Today, she was dressed more ostentatiously than before, with heavy makeup on her face and various accessories, making her look even more alluring. She was to be the centerpiece of today's festival.

Even more audaciously, Daki wore a low-cut outfit today. While Muzan was beautiful, she couldn't compete with Daki's in this aspect.

Teru stared at Muzan's face, trying hard not to let his gaze wander to where it shouldn't.

"Daki, this is my employee at the company," Muzan said naturally.

"So, you know Kokushibou, Daki?"

After pondering for a moment, as Muzan had displayed a sense of importance towards this man before, Daki decided to treat him not as an ordinary human but as a colleague.

Without hesitation, she said, "Kokushibou can be a bit gloomy and likes to act cool, always speaking with his back turned to people."

Kokushibou, who hadn't left yet, slowly drew his sword from its sheath.

"But he's still dependable, you could say he's one of the most reliable employees under Muzan-sama's command!" Daki said, puffing up her chest, proud of her words

Hmm, why does Muzan-sama seem to be holding back laughter?

Soon, the train arrived at the station. Daki parted ways with them, just turning a corner, and she saw Kokushibou standing against the wall.

Daki was taken aback, looking nervously at him. Had he overheard her speaking ill of him?

Kokushibou seemed to want to say something but ultimately remained silent, turning to walk away.

Do I always speak with my back turned to people? Kokushibou pondered.
