Chapter 8: The First Battle

Ivan decides to take the stealthy approach when hunting someone for the first time. He knows that his stealth works on this guy since he was surprised when Ivan suddenly walked up to the counter, like as if he didn't notice Ivan.

There is a decent amount of people walking down the same street as Ivan and even with his massive size, Ivan is able to weave through the crowd gracefully.

I am finally starting to get used to my new body, and boy does it feel good. Sure I might become public enemy number 1 if people were to find out about me, but I'll make sure that won't happen.

It doesn't take too long before Ivan manages to catch to the man wrapped in cloth that had swindled him earlier. As Ivan is about to approach the man and confront him within the street, the swindler takes a sharp left and runs down an empty alley way.

Shit! Does he know I am here? Well might as well give chase, can't take back my mistakes.

Ivan too turns the same corner as the swindler and starts sprinting, trying to catch up with the man.

As he takes about 15 steps into the alley way, Ivan feels a tingly sensation go up his back. Not exactly knowing what it is, but not wanting to take chances, Ivan dives to the ground.

Ivan can hear and feel wind rushing over his body, shooting down the alley way. If he hadn't of dove forward, it is very likely that whatever just shot above his would've taken his head.

Adrenaline starts to pump in Ivan's body as everything is becoming surreal. This is his first battle. Sure he might be Legendary+, but he doesn't even know how to use his skills. On top of that, his first battle will also most likely be life or death.

Ivan follows his instincts and quickly stands up and surveys the surrounding area within the alley way. It doesn't take him too long before he finds his attacker.

A massive hornet is hovering directly in front of Ivan. Its carapace is as black as night, and it hovers completely slight, as if its wings make no noise at all.

Ivan looks even closer and can see that scars litter the carapace of the hornet, and it even has some fresh scars that haven't been treated, letting them become infected.

"I don't know what you're trying to accomplish, but you are not my enemy. Step aside." Ivan says with a commanding voice, worrying that the swindler will get away. With a scratchy voice, the hornet responds with a haughty accent.

"Ha! You think that Ragman is your only enemy! Look around dumbass!"

Ivan does just that and notices three people back at the entrance of the alleyway who stands their menacingly with their weapons pulled. All of them look like shriveled up humans and are similiar to what Ivan would call a ghoul.

Ivan continues his quick search and looks up, seeing two more ghouls with crossbows aiming down at Ivan. Finally, the one person he has been looking for appears behind the jet black hornet. According to the hornet his name is Ragman, and his bright green eye is still as edgy as ever.

"You've made the mistake of following me after being swindled, breaking swindler code. I must punish you for that. Now strip your clothes and give me everything you got and I might let you live!" Ragman screams out, acting like the stereotypical villian in any story. Ivan scoffs at Ragman's response.

Ivan's senses feel only slight danger, and though he is surrounded, Ivan feels no sense of threat from any of the ghouls.

"Swindler code? Sounds like a bunch of nonsense to me. Now give me back either the scimitar and pay me with real sheks and everyone can go home safe and sound." Ivan says with full confidence in himself. Ragmen scoffs back at Ivan's response and the hornet begins to cackle.

"Hahahaha! Confident one aren't you. I can tell you are new to town, but let me give you a lesson on how it is around here in Blightwood!" says the hornet.

Ivan hears both crossbows above him shoot and he pushes his body to the max to be able to try and dodge them. Ivan can feel time begin to slow down and he quickly looks up at the arrows to see if he is really screwed or not. To his surprise, the arrows are moving at a snail's pace towards him when he is pushing himself to the limit.

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Ivan relaxes his body a little but so he is not hurting himself, and the arrows begin to speed up, but not more than the average person's walking pace.

I know I did this sort of time stop thing earlier, but I don't think I will ever get used to this. I don't think it is any time powers either, my body must be that much quicker than everything around me at the moment.

Ivan manages to finish that thought right before the arrows reach his body. Seeing that they are still fairly slow and Ivan's body feels fine at the moment, Ivan decides to simply pluck the arrows out of the air.

Holding the arrows in his right hand after grabbing them, Ivan lets his body relax and time seems to revert back to its normal speed. The hornet was still laughing when the arrows were shot, but is quickly turned speechless when it sees that Ivan had caught both of the arrows.

"That's the best you got? Then this will be easier than I could have ever imagined." Ivan says with a smirk spreading across his face. He then simply throws the arrows back at the people who shot them originally. Putting a little force behind it, the crossbow men aren't even able to see the arrows coming before their heads are pierced, leaving holes in their skull.

Ivan's hands shake after seeing the death of the crossbow men and his mouth starts to feel a little dry. That was his first kill, the first time he has killed something. On top of that, they even looked like humans, and it wasn't too long ago before Ivan himself was a human.

Watching the blood explode out the heads are the ghouls would be traumatizing for most, however for Ivan it gives him a euphoric feeling. The scent of the blood from his kill reaches Ivan's noise and he can feel a near primordial thirst well up inside of him.

Ivan's pupils turn into pin needles and his hands shake more and more violently. Ragman takes this as a sign of weakness even though Ivan just easily murdered two of his henchman. Deciding to try and push this sudden show of weakness, Ragman rushes forward while pulling out his new saber.

"Die!" Ragmen yells as he slashes down onto Ivan. Ivan doesn't even notice the strike coming towards his chest as he tries to wrestle control of his body. The scent of his first kill caused that thirst to arise within him, and it nearly caused Ivan to lose control to the thirst. He wants that blood, he wants the blood from everyone around him.

Deep in his mind though, Ivan is disgusted at himself. Yeah, sure he is a vampire but Ivan doesn't want to become some bloodsucking maniac that kills everyone on sight. Luckily for him, someone will help him wake out of his stupor.

Ragman slashes down the saber and cuts directly into Ivan's chest, going through his skin and cutting all the way down to the bone. The second the saber reaches the bone however, it feels like Ragman is slashing down onto a mountain.

Ivan's gaze that was once looking up at the roof tops aimlessly slowly moves down and onto Ragman. Ragman, sensing immense danger, tries to run away but the bright red eyes of Ivan shine. Ragman feels his body freezes up under the gaze as Ivan uses his skill Petrifying Gaze.

Ivan can feel an energy leave his eyes and wrap itself around Ragman, taking control of the edgy man's body. Ivan then removes the saber that is still attached to his chest and holds it in his left hand, using his right hand to grab Ragman's head.

The Ragman's head feel slightly malleable, like he is made out of some sort of gas and his rags are the only things holding Ragman together. Ivan can also feel some sort of energy within Ragman, something that Ivan could feel is the energy in Ragman that keeps him alive. Ivan's body want that for his own, and through touch it starts sucking this energy out of ragman.

Using Vitality Drain, Ivan can feel the wound on his chest start to heal while Ragman's body continues to shrink further and further. It doesn't take more than 10 seconds before the rags that once covered Ragman's body fall to the ground.

Ivan can feels Ragman's life energy become his own, and the wounds inflicted by Ragman have completely disappeared. The rest of the goons that decided to try and kill Ivan watch in horror as their boss seemingly melts away under Ivan's grasp.

The three ghouls that blocked Ivan's exit have already ran away, and the hornet is gonna join them. Using his wings to the fullest, the hornet speeds off into the air. Ivan, remembering the hornet was the worst of them all and not wanting him to go around to try and kill more people, he grabs one of his three spears.

Ivan wasn't the best at throwing at school, but with his new body and senses, it is enough to get the hornet. Ivan rears his arm backwards with the small spear in his hand.

All of his muscles flex as Ivan throws his arms forwards, sending the spear racing through the air. A boom echoes throughout the town of Blightwood as Ivan doesn't control his strength at all.

The spear soars straight into the hornet, both of them exploding from the impact. Ivan watches as the hornet explodes into a green mist with pieces of his carapace falling to the ground.

The thirst for blood starts to slightly recede within Ivan. He mind starts to clear up and he fully begins to realize what has just happen.

Shit. Not being evil is definitely going to be a challenge with that horrible thirst.

He then looks at his own hands and the discarded rags of the dead Ragman.

And on top of that, my powers definitely seem terrifying since I literally made someone vanish with just a mere touch and used their life source to heal myself.

Ivan takes in a deep breath and lets it out slowly. Ivan realizes it's going to take a lot of training to learn how to hold himself back, and how to control his thirst for the blood of his enemies.
