(Lave POV)
I stood in front of the door headed into what I assume is the private corders for the staff of this Church. Ok lets try this again. With my face hidden under my cloak I walked purposely down the marble corridor. Through the many infiltration missions I’ve found that no one really questions you if you look like you know what your doing. On the other hand any sort of hesitation will cause someone to come ‘help’ you.
Reaching a door on the right I opened it to find a small empty room. Ah, I think this is a prayer room. Nodding to myself I continued on down the hallway. Four more prayer rooms and a closet later I heard voices.
“Is it true that Minister Brae has died?” A strong voice asked in disbelief. Minister Brae?
“Yes, I heard it was quite gruesome. The Solace is very upset about it. Apparently he went to visit the Demon in the dungeon only to be killed by it.” Another replied in a whisper. Ah, their talking about Food.
A snort came from the other side of the door. “And what did Sir Lai do? There’s no way Minister Brae went to the dungeons without him.” The strong voice asked completely disregarding the others need to whisper.
“That’s the thing. It seems Sir Lai did nothing. He just watched Minister Brae get killed and then let the Demon escape.” The whispering voice responded. “The Solace is furious at him and has Sir Lai under house arrest until the matter is resolved.” Poor Mr. Lai. Did they take your inaction as cowardice?
“Is that so? Well it can’t be helped then. What news of the Hero?” I leaned against the wall as if guarding the door. “Has he made any progress?”
“Not yet. However it hasn’t even been a week since we summoned him. It takes time to build strength.” The voice reasoned.
“I don’t see why we needed to summon that Heathen in the first place.” Came an irritated reply. “We have plenty of strength already. Surly we have enough for one simple invasion.”
“Heros are legendary existences that surpass the means of us humans. With him our victory is assured.”
“Are you saying that our Lord Imperious will not grant us victory?” The voice now much deeper then before.
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
“N-No! Of course not! I would never dream of such a thing! I was just saying that the Hero just makes our victory easier.”
A grunt sounded out followed by violent coughing. “Get out. It seems your faith is lacking. Go prey to Imperious for his guidance.”
“… yes…” The door opened as a man stumbled out into the hallway clutching his stomach. He glanced at me for a second before wondering down the hallway.
“I can see that you run a tight ship here Mr. Priest.” I said pulling the door shut behind me. A desk sat at the edge of the room pilled with papers. While a man stood leaning against it with a glass of brown liquid in his hand. I sniffed the air and smiled. Alcohol. Spotting the container off to the side I wondered over and poured some for myself. “I hope you don’t mind. I’m very parched from my long journey here.”
Relaxing down in an armchair the man raised an eyebrow appraising me. “… Not at all. How may I help you Miss. Knight.” He took as sip but didn’t move from his spot. If he was upset he didn’t show it. Interesting.
“Well you see I heard that if I wanted to know about the Hero summoning I needed to talk to a Priest. However all the Priests where gone when I came back from my mission.” I took a sip of the alcohol only to be surprised by the sweet flavor. I hummed in appreciation. “This is quite good.”
“I’m glad it is to your taste.” He replied with a smile. “Beg my pardon, but why would a knight like to know about the Hero summoning?”
“Well you see as a knight I am quite interested in this other world. If there is another world these Heroes are coming from then isn’t it only right that we can go to this other world? If so I was hoping to spread the word of Lord Imperious. By force of course.” I patted my sword with a viscous smile. “However it is truly a shame as I know nothing about the summoning so I have no way to spread the word in this other world.”
“… It is a pity. However the summoning is a church secrete. You could need the express permission from Our Solace to know about it.”
“Oh my, I just didn’t want to bother Our Solace with such a matter, but I guess I can only give up on it.” I spun the liquid around in the cup. “Out of curiosity Mr. Priest do all the Priests know about the summoning ritual?”
He smiled politely to my question. “I am not aloud to devolve that information either.”
I sighed and looked up at the ceiling seeing water pooling on the stainless skylight. “Of course not.” I muttered. Why is it never easy to get the information I want?
“By the way Miss. Knight I didn’t happen to catch your name. Also If you like you can hang your cloak over by the fire to dry. I’m sure there is more than the summoning ritual you wish to talk about.” His smile was nice but I could tell he was hiding his suspicion.
“My, how sweet of you. Let me take you up on that offer. However Mr. Priest is it not courtesy for the asker to name themselves first before asking others?” I stood and walked over to the fireplace so my back was facing him.
“What a blunder. My name is Oras Head Priest of the Vasa sub-church.” Came the polite introduction. I smiled to myself while hanging my new cloak next to the fire. I don’t want it to get dirty.
Turning around I returned the greeting. “Mor Murchú the Hunting Dog of Scáthach Cove and is wrongly accused as a Demon. It is a pleasure to meet you Priest Oras. Let us have a wonderful chat.”
