(Isda POV)
I sat alone gazing into the reflecting pool in the back garden of the Church. It is truly a beautiful sight watching the ripples travel from one side to the other. Steps came running down the rock path disturbing the tranquility of this place.
Placing my book down on the bench I gave my full attention to my rushing attendant. Gasping for breath she tried to steady herself. “Priestess! Have you heard about Vasa?!”
With a quite sigh I watched the attendant pull herself together. “If you are talking about the dock being burned down and a Demon spy being caught red handed, then yes. The spy should be in the cells right now.” I opened my book back up to continue where I left off.
“Yes, well there is something else that you should know.” The attendant shifted nervously. “Your daughter Amice was at the scene as well. She seemed to be helping the Demons...”
I froze. “What? Amice was helping the Demons?”
“Y-Yes. The town guards reported her entering with a man she claimed to be her escort. Later she was seen fighting the patrols killing several Holy Knights and helping a Demon spies escape.” I sighed while grabbing the bridge of my nose. That girl...
Closing the book I stood up and headed to the door. “Where is Hal?” Its all his fault she turned out like this.
“With the Holy Knights, training them.” She replied while hurrying after me.
“Of course he is.” Really if her father weren't such a battle nut she never would have turned out this way. She is already has a bounty on her head in several provence, and now she's gone and helped the Demon spies. Another sigh escaped my lips.
Exiting into the training grounds I found Hal lecturing the knights on a proper sword grip. “Hal we need to talk.” I said forcing his attention on me.
“Of course my darling. What do we need to talk about?” He asked a silly grin on his face. “You lot go practice your sword grip! My Wife needs me!” The knights scurried off making themselves busy. Really no matter how many years pass he is still the same idiot.
“... Its about our daughter.” I started trying to calm down.
“What has our Angel achieved this time? Saved a damsel in distress? Brought an end to a corrupt lord? Oh maybe she is fighting unspeakable evil.” My eye lid began twitching in irritation.
“No. She has attacked the harbor city Vasa. Setting flames to the port and helped a Demon Spy to escape the Holy Knights killing several in the process.” I coldly stated.
“Has she? Well good on her. It was about time. Vasa needed an update in architecture. It was starting to get depressing.” This Idiot!
“You do realize that this means that our daughter is now wanted by the Church? She has helped an enemy and even killed Church soldiers. The least punishment she will get is life inpmresenment and at most death.” I glared at Hal trying to explain how dangerous this situation really is. “Not only that the Church could declare that we raised a heretic and kill us.”
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
“Now, now honey, you worry to much. Even if the Church does declare this we can just escape. It isn't that hard to do. Plus aren't you happy that Amice is following what she whats to do? Sure we might have to fight her on the battlefield, but that only means I get to see how much she has grown.” Hal's laughter echoed through the courtyard causing a few of the knights to look at him.
“Hal you are the reason she turned out this way! I mean really she has a bounty on her head and is wanted by the Church. Why did you have to teach her swordsmanship? If only she had followed in my footsteps and became a priestess.” My frustration escaping me.
“Oh come on. Its not like if I didn't teach her she never would have learned. She has alway been like this.” He countered happily. “I just can't imagine her sitting quietly reading books and reflecting on the troubles of the world. In fact just thinking about it is creepy.”
I sighed heavily. “It has nothing to do with weather she would have learned the sword in the end or not. Why does she have your personality? At least if you hadn't of taught her she wouldn't be this strong. Now she just runs wild like she's invincible. This is why we didn't have anymore children.”
“Ah, Isda...” Hal began panicked.
“No, don't. If we fight our child in this coming war. We will have to kill her. This is all because she has decided to fight with the Demons. Really, what am I going to do? Both my daughter and my husband are idiots.”
“... Priestess it is time.” The attendant said while looking apologetic about interrupting our talk.
“So it is. Hal today we will come to a decision about the war with the Demons. I want you to be prepared to answer your assignment. I'm sure that we will be called into question because of this.”
“Well we could always run Honey. Its not like they would be able to catch us.” Hal said carefully. “I have been wanting to retire for a while now. I'm sure my people would be more than willing to hide us as well.”
“If it was that easy we would have already done so. However life is never the way we wish it. Plus as the Priestess I cannot retire until death. Why wish for something impossible? Instead pray that Amice goes off somewhere else and doesn't enter this war.” I turned and followed the attendant to the meeting hall. If it were so simple as to have Hal's family hide us then we would have stayed here after Amice received her first bounty. I switched my thoughts to our energetic daughter. Truly she got her since of adventure and justice from her father. My Imperium guide you my dear Amice for if not I fear that tragedy will strike our family.
