Chapter 5: The Cleansing

Chapter 5: The Cleansing

Thea stood still for a moment among the cheers of the people. She had just made a great impression on them, she got rid of the tyrant of a pope. Yet she felt so hollow in the sea of gratitude she was getting.

She shook herself back into focus, now was not the time to wallow in self-deprecation.

Geluz Ent Ozmosia!

Beams of light began to scatter around as the priests who emerged looked around in confusion, Julia running over after coming to her senses faster than the rest.

“M-My lady, where are we what happened?!” She asked quickly as she looked around this strange but familiar area.

“We're in the capital of the church Julia, I told you I’d help out right?” She said with an unusually sad smile.

“T-This is the capital?” Julia looked around, the last she had seen of the capital it was a bright city with stalls of food and games, people laughing and praying, now it was less than a fraction of its previous glamour with people malnourished and the stalls empty, a dreary air far from the life and vibrance it had once shown.

“I understand how you feel, but from today on we will be rebuilding this city to what it once was. My people won't suffer in such a way again.”

“How can we dream to do such a thing!? The pope has this city in the palm of his hand, we have no chance against the templars!” She said as she pointed at the other priests, much of which were in nervous agreeance.

“There’s no need to worry.” She said as she pointed at the body of the pope lying on the floor.

Julia stood staring for a second, in the short time since Thea had left, she had already killed the most powerful person in the church.

“Why am I so surprised a goddess could kill a mortal…” She thought to herself.

Getting down on one knee go lowered her head, and many of the other priests followed her example.

“We shall all help you our goddess, to bring a world where this won't need to happen again!” Julia spoke confidently raising her head.

“Thank you,” Thea said with a warm smile.

“Then for my first order, follow me to the castle, we have more unwelcome traitors to be rid of!” She yelled.

“Yes, my lady!”

Thea nodded as she began to walk with the priests straight to the castle before they ended up outside the main doors.

You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.

Pushing open the doors they were met with a large opening, priests walking around and templars lining the walls.

“Who goes there?” A templar said ad he walked towards them.

“I am Thea! Those who still have faith may stay, but the dregs who have had their hearts darkened may leave of your own will, or be made to by force.” Thea yelled for all to hear.

The templar had an obvious reaction on his face.

”Pfft!! You’re the goddess? AHAHAHA, and I’m an archmage.” He laughed before getting a serious look on his face and drawing his sword.

“I won't listen to any more of your jokes, leave now or I’ll need to use force.” He said as he held the sword to her throat.

“Remove your sword from the goddess immediately!” Julia yelled.

“I’m losing patience for your games, leave now!” He said his voice full of annoyance.

People began to crowd around the commotion, templars coming closer in assistance.

Thea was tired of the back and forth as she winded her arm back looking at the templar.

“Be careful there, I've been patient enough with yo-”

Before he could finish talking Thea had already lunged towards him pushing her fist into his stomach as his armor shattered into pieces on contact.

“Urghhh!” He spat blood as he flew back going through a wall.

Everyone's jaw dropped from the priests to the templars. It had happened so fast, one second he held a sword to her neck and the next he was blown back with enough force to create a gust of wind.

Thea thought of the best way to prove her identity. Releasing her body image so her full body began to show through, the dazzling light and hypnotic dark abyss.

“I am your god! I am the one you worship! Stand down my templars for your loyalty has strayed but I can give forgiveness!”

They all looked at Thea’s true form in awe.

Dropping down to their knees the Priests and Templars lowered themselves before her.

“Praise be the goddess!” They chanted.

Thea returned to her human form before holding out her hand.

“Prove your loyalty my Templars! Bring me those that caused the church to go down the path of destruction and abandon order!” Thea ordered.

“Yes, my lady!”

In the blink of an eye the Templars began going through the castle, telling others of the goddess return and apprehending the higher-ups of the church.

The Templars lined the hall with every higher-up who had supported the pope and his path of destruction. While leaving the ones who had been faithful to the goddess trying to stop the pope.

“You all who have dark hearts from your personal greed, who have used my name in the most horrific way, hurting those who even if not believers, never deserved to die in such ways.”

The men shook at every word she said, not able to lift their heads.

“My Templars, for the crimes of blasphemy and using my name for their own accord, I sentence them to public beheading in the square tomorrow!”

“Yes, my lady!”

“N-no please spare us! W-we’ll never do it again I promise!”

“Your right, you won't ever do it again, take them to the dungeon to wait for their execution.”

The men quickly were dragged along by the Templars leaving Thea and the priests by themselves.

“That was amazing my lady!” Julia intervened.

“I’m glad you think so,” Thea said weakly.

“Is everything okay my lady?” Julia said worried.

“I’m feeling a bit weird…I…will be back, take care…of things here…” Thea weakly whispered.

“W-wait what do you mean my lady!” Julia said reaching out to Thea.

Geluz Ent Ozmosia…

Just as Julia got close to Thea the light enveloped and transported both of them back to Thea’s domain.

“Haaa…Haaa…” Thea’s breathing grew difficult, her body grew hot as her eyelids grew heavy, hearing Julia's worried voice until her mind faded to black.
