Chaper 4: The First Act

Chaper 4: The First Act

Thea slowly woke up as her eyes opened with a stretch, that was the first time in a long time she had slept so peacefully.

“Shall I go check on everyone then?” She thought to herself, leaving her room directly to the church, many people talking with each other, sitting, a sea of warm smiles that felt contagious to the sight.

“Hello, I hope you are all having a wonderful time,” Thea said with a returned smile.

“G-Goddess!” They looked at her and stood in unison with a bow.

“There’s no need for this please sit and continue!” Thea said flustered, she didn't know how to respond to such faith and respect.

“Of course, there is a need! We must show our respect to our savior and goddess, for if we can not even do this we aren’t deserving of your grace.” A girl said in front, she was beautiful and showed elegance, it seemed that she had been picked as the leader of the group already, and her faith was not small.

Thea let out a sigh, she could tell their minds would not change, and if she was truly to rebuild the church she would need to get used to this treatment.

“Fine if you all feel the same you may,” Thea said with a smile.

“Of course my lady.” She said with a smile back. A smile of true happiness and reverence.

“What’s your name?” Thea asked the Girl.

“Ah, my names Julia my lady!” She said with an excited look on her face.

“Alright Julia, I have a question, how much would you say you know about the current affairs of the Church of Order?”

“Hmm…I don’t know much, but I heard things here and there while in the dungeon.” She responded.

“That's great to hear, would you please come with me? I’d like to hear about what I have missed.”

“Of course my lady!”

Thea nodded and lead Julia to a separate room where they could talk in privacy.

“What would you like to know my lady?” Julia questioned.

“Do you know how many places around the empire have survivors from the church?”

This content has been misappropriated from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

Julia thought a bit before speaking.

“Honestly, probably every church that has been taken over, every larger town, and I heard in smaller towns their public hangings to set examples.” She said, a more grim look on her face.

Thea felt sick, it was so much worse than she thought.

“Is the Capital of the Church still holding out against the empire?”

“It is, but they're on their back foot, many places close to the capital are being conquered as we speak…”

“Then I guess I should help out then,” Thea said with a smile as she stood.

“W-What? What are you gonna do?” Julia stammered.

“If my capital is on its last leg, I should support it shouldn’t I?”

Geluz Ent Ozmosia!

The light enveloped her as she appeared above the capital, the city had a dark aura around it, and the meek and defeated atmosphere was suffocating.

She dropped down to the city square, and people around her began staring at the strange woman, with confusion and murmurs in dark alleyways and as people walked past and stood by.

Thea smiled as she extended her hand in front of her.

Terfin Del Scutum!

The moment the words left her mouth, an all-encompassing shield surrounded the capital. Like a force field, she had seen in Sci-fi movies.

The bystanders stared at her in awe, they all had the same thought in witness to her abilities far from the scope of humanity.

“The Goddess!”

People gathered from all around the Capital at the sight of the light’s origin, a familiar scene played out in front of Thea, masses of people willingly groveled before her in reverence as tears streamed down their eyes, praise be the goddess they shouted.

“People of the capital it is me, Thea! The Emperor has done far worse things than I could ever have imagined, and worse of yet is hurting you my people, the way of the church has strayed but I will put it back on the correct path.” Her voice boomed.

“I swear to protect you all, I swear it on my name.”

A man came running down, his clothes seemed that of a very high-standing priest.

“G-Goddess Thea, I-I’m your loyal subordinate, Fredrick.” The man said shakily.

Thea stared at him, she knew the name of Fredrick, self-proclaimed pope of the church of order, who said the goddess herself blessed him.

“You who proclaimed yourself pope in my name, for your own greed you brought this upon my people. You started this war while using my templars to drain the blood from innocent people in my name. Your heart is dark and my church has no room for someone like you.”

Fredrick looked up wide-eyed before scrambling up as he began to run away. The shadow of the god he used for power filled him with fear, and before he could think his body moved.

Before he could get far Thea was already next to him her hand around the collar of his robe.

“For your punishment, I’ll vaporize your being, so not even your soul can be reborn, this is both my final mercy and final punishment to you.”

He tried his best to get away but in terms of strength, Thea far outclassed him. He shouted and cursed at the god he had been pretending to be serving, showing his true colors to all.

“Pelvur Quantum”

The words left her lips and he collapsed, his eyes had no light, his face no longer scrunched in fear and anger, his being was empty, a shell that lost its light and quickly faded away.

“She did it, she got rid of the tyrant!” The city people shouted a cheer erupted at the sight of the passing of a man. As if to validate the actions she made, the killing of one is an act Thea had not in her right mind made yet. But the cheers of her people, were a validation she needed in a moment of personal terror, as she took her first life.
