Chapter-56: Chamber of Secrets

Chapter-56: Chamber of Secrets

Ronan wanted to scream, he wanted to punch someone. The moment that he had been waiting for a the past month, never came. As soon as he arrived in a secluded classroom, and whipped out his map, he realized that he could not see where Ginevra was. It was like she had stepped into a place that was not located on the map of Hogwarts. He figured that the diary had compelled her to go to Chambers of Secret.

He stood there fuming with anger, not knowing what to do at the moment. He didnt know where the chamber was, hell, even if he did know there was no way that he could battle 50 feet tall snake, who could kill him with just his stare. Now, the only thing that he could do, was to go back to his common room and wait for the protagonists to deal with the threat.

Fuming, he folded the map and started venturing towards the dungeons, eventually coming across the last person that he hoped to find.

“Professor Snape clearly said no children out of the dorm!” Filch yelled at him, “Out for mischief are we?”

“I was on my way to my dorm,” Ronan said in a rather slow and bored voice. He didnt have the energy to deal with this fool.

“I dont believe you!” Filch yelled back. The old man then grabbed his clothes and started pulling him, “Come with me to the staffroom. I will let Dumbledore deal with you,”

I dont have time or patience for this shit. Instantly he whipped out his wand, with a voiceless chant, he knocked the old man. Then he bent down and pointed his wand at the face of the old man, “Obreviate,” It was a nice little spell that is used to erase the last 24 hours' worth of memory by official obliviators of the ministry, he found it one of the books back at home.

After performing the magic, he left Filch out there and started making his way to the dungeon, when he heard, “Pssst” He stopped and turned around to see Harry, Ron, and Neville appear before him, out from Harry’s invisibility cloak.

“What are you guys doing here?” Ronan asked. He knew exactly what these brats were doing here, they were out snooping to see what was up.

Unexpectingly, Ron was the one that lept for him, “Ronan, please help us. Its Ginny! She had been taken by the heir to the Chambers of Secrets,”

Ronan was confused, “Who is Ginny?”

“She is Ron’s little sister. You met him before,” Harry added.

“Oh, I thought her name was Ginevra,”

Neville then spoke, “It is her pet name.. But that doesn't matter. She has been taken to the Chambers. We have to save her,”

A part of Ronan wanted to yell, Ah, Hell Nah!

But currently, he was stuck in a position where if he were to deny their absurd request to the quest, he would lose the potential bounding moment with Protagnigst of the story. And if he were to say ‘yes’, then a sure death waited for him. He was stuck in a hard place.

Thinking that he would separate from them when the time came, he decided to help them. “So what can we do?” he asked. “Does anyone know where the entrance to the chamber is located?”

The boys fell into deep thought. Seeing this he realized that they had still not figured out where the entrance was. He then started wrecking his brain and then figured that they should try to look for clues from the last place where he saw Ginevra or Ginny.

“Come with me,” he said sharply, and the boys started following him with a word.

Ron then started walking beside him, “Where are we going?”

He simply replied, “To the second girl’s bathroom,”

“Why?” Ron quickly asked.

“I think I saw a redhead girl, about your Harry’s height walking inside when you guys went away. I might be wrong, but that is the best place for us to start our investigation.” They didnt question him, which was a good thing.

As they reached the second floor, they got into the bathroom to find it empty. It was then Ron questioned, “What now?”

Ronan started wrecking his brain, when they heard, “You shouldn't be here,” he looked up to see the girl of a ghost floating above them. “Professors made an announcement that all students should return to their dorms.”

It was then Harry spoke up, “Murtle,” he said in a rather sweet voice, “Can you tell us how did you die?”

She looked as though she had never been asked such a flattering question. “Ooooh, it was dreadful,” she said with relish. “It happened right in here, about fifty years ago,” Hearing the number, everyone looked at each other in surprise. None of them saw this one coming, except for Harry.

She then continued, “I died in this very stall. I remember it so well. I had hid here because Olive Hornby was teasing me about my glasses. The door was locked, and I was crying, and then I heard somebody come in. They said something funny. A different language, I think it must have been. Anyway, what got me was that it was a boy speaking. So I unlocked the door, to tell him to go and use his own toilet, and then…” Myrtle swelled importantly, her face shining. “I died.”

“How?” Harry asked.

”No idea,” said Myrtle in hushed tones. “I just remember seeing a pair of great, big, yellow eyes. My whole body sort of seized up, and then I was floating away. . . .” She looked dreamily at Harry. “And then I came back again. I was determined to haunt Olive Hornby, you see. Oh, she was sorry she’d ever laughed at my glasses.”

“Where exactly did you see the eyes?” said Harry

“Somewhere there,” said Myrtle, pointing vaguely toward the sink in front of her toilet.

All of them jumped towards the sink. It looked like any other ordinary sink, they examined every inch of it first, inside and out. And it was then Ronan saw it, scratched on the side of the copper tap was a tiny snake. He opened the tap, but nothing came out of its mouth.

“That tap never worked,” Murtle said from behind.

Ronan then turned towards them, “Neville say something Parseltongue.”

“I cannot,” Neville spoke, “I tried speaking it on several occasions, but only English came out my mouth. I dont think that I can speak Parseltongue without a snake in the presence.”

“Try it,” Ronan said, “For Ginevra.”

Neville nodded, then spoke, “Open up,” he said, and then Harry retorted, “English. Try again,”

Neville closed his eyes and with confidence he spoke once again, “Open up,” and they all heard him making a hissing sound. At once the tap glowed with a brilliant white light and began to spin. The next second, the sink began to move, spilling the soap kept on the sink on the floor. The sink sank, right out of sight, leaving a large pipe exposed, a pipe wide enough for a man to slide into.

All of them gasped seeing the hole. Ronan then turned towards them, Ron had that resolve in his eyes, “I am going down there,”

“I am coming with you,” Harry said at once, hearing this Neville hesitated a little bit, but then said as well, “I am going with you guys as well,” Neville looked a little scared, but he portrayed a brave front.

It was then they all turned towards him, making Ronan raise his eyebrow. What should I do now? Should I go back? I should, shouldn't I? Yes. I should.

“Let go then,” Ron said and then went inside, moving past him. Then Harry jumped and then behind him Neville jumped as well. At last, he was the only one left. He was about to go when the idea of killing Ginevra came back to his mind. He could get a chance to kill the girl down there. But then he shoved the thought aside and was about to go to the staff room, when his leg slipped into the soap on the floor, toppling him down the pipe as well…

It was like rushing down an endless, slimy, dark slide. He could see more pipes branching off in all directions, but none as large as theirs, which twisted and turned, sloping steeply downward, and he knew that he was falling deeper below the school than even the dungeons. And then, just as he had begun to worry about what would happen when he hit the ground, the pipe leveled out, and he shot out of the end with a wet thud, landing on the damp floor of a dark stone tunnel large enough to stand in.

Sitting in the slimy place, he immediately pulled out his wand, “Lumos” and illuminated the whole place.

“We must be miles under the school,” said Harry, his voice echoing in the black tunnel.

“Under the lake, probably,” said Ron, squinting around at the dark, slimy walls. While Neville on the other hand looked more scared than before. Then they all whipped out their wands and cast Lumos as well.

Then they all started venturing deeper into the tunnel. “Remember,” Harry said quietly as they walked cautiously forward, “any sign of movement, close your eyes right away. . . .”

But the tunnel was quiet as the grave, and the first unexpected sound they heard was a loud crunch as Ron stepped on what turned out to be a rat’s skull. Harry lowered his wand to look at the floor and saw that it was littered with small animal bones.

“So there is no chance that the snake is a vegetarian,” Ronan mumbled. All of them gave him a look, they were not amused by his joke.

“Guys, there is something up there,” Neville said, pointing in front of them. They saw an outline of something huge and curved, lying right across the tunnel. The good thing was that it was not moving. They came closer, only to realize that they were looking at a gigantic green snakeskin.

Seeing the size of it, Ronan started cursing his luck. He was in some deep shit right now.
