“ITS CLEANING DAY. EVERYONE GET UP!” The shrill and irritating of Matron Lily reverberated through the dorm which made Ronan wake up from his sleep. He looked around, children bore more deeply into their bedsheets, ignoring Matron’s call.
He rubbed his eyes and looked out the window which was just beside his bed. Gentle rays of sun greeted him. He sighed and pushed his bed sheet aside, it felt like just a moment ago he fell asleep, and now it was morning. As he pushed himself up, Accounting of Dummies, the book that he had been reading last night fell on the floor. He picked it up and put it on his nightstand, along with other books collection that he had.
Most of the children of the orphanage find him weird, and he didnt blame them. While most of the children like to play games like hopscotch or hide and seek, he likes to stay back and study different things about the world. Even Matron finds it very weird that he doesn't want to play or want treats, he is only interested in books. But what could he say, as a 35-year-old man stuck in a 10-year-old boy’s body, he didnt have any interest in sweets or playing with kids.
It has been 8 years since he transmigrated in the body of Ronan Johanson, an almond-skinned boy black hair orphan who stays in a small orphanage just outside Little Whinging, which is a small village in the county of Surrey, U.K. This place wasn't much, the infrastructure was very poor, but at least the local government provided them with enough money to keep their stomach full.
As a stock trader who was based in India, Ronan was shocked when he got transmigrated. In his previous life when got struck by a truck, he thought that this was it for him. But then he woke up here. However, he doesn't remember much about his previous life, which was very weird as he had retained a lot of theoretical knowledge from his previous life. He remembers every book that he has ever read and knows how to apply that knowledge as well.
But Basic things like his name that he used in his past life, the knowledge about the kind of life that he lived in his previous life was missing from his memory.
But he was happy with what he had retained. With his memory, he was sure that he would be able to make it big by the time he reached his thirties, and he might as well become the richest man in the world by the time he would hit his fifties. And for that, he was grateful to the god that gave him such an opportunity.
Also, he was blessed with 2 other gifts in this life. One of his gifts was perfect memory, he has a photographic memory because of which he can remember and analyze huge amounts of data with just a glance. It was not a broken ability, there was a limit to the amount of data that he could process. If he pushes himself too far, he starts having this crazy headache which is very painful. Still, it is good to have such ability in a normal world.
The second ability that he got after his transmigration was minor telekinesis, he could only make a few light books fly in the air before his head starts ringing. But this was also a very neat gift.
At first, when he received these gifts, he concluded that there might be a chance that he might have transmigrated into some sort of fictional world, just like the fan fiction that he had read in his past life. But after extensive research of history books and newspapers, he concluded that this was a normal world. Which only fueled his happiness, he could grow without worrying about anything…
As he made it downstairs to the dining hall, he saw Matron and their chef/janitor/handyman Bob in the kitchen, overlooking a very deep pot. From the smell, he realized that they were having simple rice porridge for breakfast.
“Ronan,” he looked back, Matron Lily, a tall middle-aged lady in her forties came with at least 2 dozen plates in her hands. He immediately got into action and took some of the load from her. She then started arranging the plates in the dining hall, and he helped her.

After they were done, Matron went to the stairways and at the top of her lungs yelled, “BREAKFAST IS BEING SERVED, COME DOWN EVERYONE!”
Soon a swarm of children came down. Old man, Bob started serving porridge. Older kids which consisted of teenagers took their plates and went to have breakfast outside. They didnt like to sit down with small ones, while the small ones huddled together in one corner of the table, while he and two friends sat together on the other end of the table.
“Ronan, we need to start my summer assignment today if we want to complete it this month,” said Billy, a 12-year-old boy with glasses.
He nodded, “You know me Billy, before I start my work, I need my payment?” Billy's mood turned sour, “Come on Ronan, I dont have a lot of money. Can you give a friend and family discount?”
He chuckled, “Billy, my usual rate is 5 quid. I am doing your work for 3, that is already a steal.”
“But I dont have any money left,”
“How? Today is the 3rd, and we all received our monthly allowance just two days ago.” Rupert, a 13-year-old boy spoke, “Well I know the reason.”
“Rupert!” Billy exclaimed. But this gave Ronan enough information to know what was up. Sighing he spoke, “So you spend all the money that you have on arcade. I thought you really wanted to score a “C” or above in your assignment.”
Billy looked flabbergasted, “Well I want to. But there is a guy called Piers who broke my high score.”
“And?”
“And, I wanted to get back at him. He always keeps teasing me about it. I cannot retaliate because Piers and his gang have a strong fat kid as their leader. And he is known to pummel anyone who messes with them to the ground.”
He stared at Billy as if he was seeing an idiot, that was the most ridiculous thing that he had ever heard of, who in their right mind would spend all of their allowance on an arcade? And who in their right mind would pick a fight with someone just because they broke their high score? As he was about to open his mouth and give Billy a piece of his mind, he stopped. He realized that Billy is just a kid, he forgets that sometimes.
“You know what, it's alright. As you are not giving me money, I will not do your work. But I will help you.”
“Man!” Billy complained, “That is not fair.”
“Do you want me to rescind my offer?” Rupert and Billy looked at each other, “What do you mean by rescind?” This made Ronan groan with frustration.
“Ronan! Come to my office!” They heard the yell of the matron, all the way from her office. He pushed away his clean plate and got up, “We will talk later.” Both Rupert and Billy nodded…
When Ronan got to the office, he saw that Matron Lily was sitting on her desk, opposite to her was a squat little old woman. From her appearance, either this old woman was mental or had a very bad fashion sense. She was wearing a purple shiny blouse with a frail white skirt. He didnt know what to make of her, still, he entered the office after knocking on the door.
“Here he is, our golden boy,” Matron said, which made him question why this old woman was here. Looking at her dress, she didnt look like a person who could legally adopt anyone. So why was Matron acting this way?
“I see,” The old woman replied, and then passed him a smile as well.
“Ronan, this right here is Professor Sprout. She is here to meet you.” He was taken aback, there was no way someone like her could be a professor. Surely not.
“It is nice is meet your professor. If you dont mind me asking, what exactly do you teach?”
The old woman was about her mouth when abruptly she stopped and looked at the matron. “Excuse me lily dear, can you please give me and Mr. Johanson here some privacy?”
Matron shook her head firmly, “I am sorry Professor Sprout, but it is against our orphanage guidelines…” Before she could complete her sentence, the old man-woman took out her green wooden stick and waved at Matron.
“Well, of course, you can.” Matron suddenly changed her tone, got up, and left the office after closing the door.
While he on the other hand stood there in shock, if he saw it correctly, this old woman used a wand. More specifically a wand from a world that he knew too well…
