How to Rob a Bank
Chapter 2.5: Sparks

Chapter 2.5: Sparks

As I laid on my grass mattress, many questions came to my mind. Why did the man ask if I ran to a suspicious person, but completely dropped the topic afterwards? Why did I forget to ask his name? How am I gonna get there at 11am when I have basically no way of accurately telling time? Why did Ronald McDonald descend from heaven to grace me with his juicy burgers? Great questions, me. Well, these questions faded away as I....fell.......unconscious.........

And...it's a new day!!! The sun is shining and- wait, the sun isn't shining. It's dark out. I can't even hear any crickets...what's going on? Why did I wake up randomly? It looks like its 3am. Hm, whatever. I guess I'll walk around and then go back to sleep.

The grass is imprinted with my body. When I become a God, I hope the grass feels lucky to have had my body sleep on it. These concrete tiles will be happy to have been stepped on by me! Maybe. Probably not. I dunno about this whole "God" thing. Like, it sounds cool, I guess. Maybe it just interests me because...it makes me seem like I have some sort of worth. I'm just a pebble on the side of the road right now. Maybe I wasn't before, but now I am. And I feel like I've been picked up by an alchemist, with the intentions of turning me into gold. But. rationally...I'm not even sure what I'm doing. Do I even have any special skills that might even give me a sliver of a chance to qualify as a God? What will these preliminaries even be? A test? I'm...of average intelligence. I hope its not that. Well, I got nothing better to do. Might as well try.

As I was consumed by my thoughts, the grass that had just been so honored to have been stepped on by me...rustled. I turned. A very, very, VERY, suspicious man walked up to me. I got ready to run.

"Hey, kid."

I pretended to not hear him.

"KID. LOOK AT ME."

I proceeded to not look at him.

"Oh, god. Fine, don't even look at me I guess. But listen. I'm the man you talked to...some hours ago."

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

I proceeded to look at him. The man was honest as he was suspicious.

"Why...are you stalking me at 3am?"

"Please. Don't make me sound like that. I have pure, good intentions."

Okay. Maybe he wasn't honest as he was suspicious.

"Okay. Then enlighten me with your "pure, good intentions"."

"You are...applying to become a God. Tomorrow, right?"

Oh. Em. Gee! How did he know? Actually, that's not that hard to guess. There are a million kids applying, after all.

"...and?"

"Just wanted to say, good luck!!!"

"You...came all the way here just to say that?"

"No."

"Then what else. I don't need your luck."

"...the exam might be a bit tough for you, as you are now."

"As I am now?"

"...you'll see what I mean, later on. Just...take this"

He handed me... a cigarette lighter? It had a sleek gold case...looked kind of expensive, actually.

"How much did this cost? Wait, wrong question. Why are you giving a kid a cigarette lighter?"

"To light the fire in your heart."

????? I stared at him blankly in response.

"...someone told me to give it to you."

"Wow. Is someone assuming I'm a drug user? I know about the "Just Say No" campaign! Be the best you can be! Be drug free! Yeah I'm a good kid."

"...don't get mad at me. I'm not the one choosing this gift."

Hold up. Someone...knows me? Wait, that's right! I don't even need to remember my past first...I can just meet someone who might know me! And...apparently this suspicious man might be one of them.

"So...do you know me? Because I don't know you."

"It's complicated."

"No it's not. It's a yes or no question."

"...no"

Damn! So this was just a suspicious stranger.

"But the one who told me to give you this...they know you very well."

"Great! Take me to this person!"

"...no. I can't do that."

"Oh right, I forgot to tell you. I literally lost all my memories! I have no direction in life! I'm a minor! You are obliged to help me, sir."

"I know..."

"No you don't! I've only told one other person."

He didn't respond.

"So all you are doing is just giving me this lighter? What am I supposed to do with this?"

"You can light cigars."

"No shit. I don't smoke though, what do I do with this?"

"...I'm not answering all this. I have no obligation to. Just...take it. And don't lose it. You'll learn everything...later. I gotta head back."

He then proceeded to run off. What the hell just happened? Hold on though.

"WAIT! BEFORE YOU GO!"

He looked back.

"APOLOGIZE FOR YELLING AT ME BEFORE!"

He continued to run off. Damn, he sure loves running. And being cryptic. Well, whatever. Time to doze off...
