Vol 1 : Chapter 8 - I Decline

Sorry this one is so short everyone I thought I would write with my free time today, alas my boss had other ideas for it.

I'm curious did anyone see a link to my last chapter on the home page?

Not long after I posted it the site went down and I wasn't able to check the past three days.

Spoiler :

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After taking a deep breath I said aloud, “I decline.”

Even though it was dark inside the basement I couldn’t wait any longer I pulled out the average sized notebook and started reading it. It was titled “The Dabblers Handbook”. The introduction took up the first few pages. It explained why the writer had written the handbook and the reason that there where so many blank pages throughout the book. The table of contents consisted of only five chapters; those being “General”, “Craft", “Martial”, and “Magic”. The title of the last chapter was left blank.

The first chapter was filled with a lot of random, but useful information. The way it just jumped from one subject to another was completely chaotic. The information had nothing in common. It felt like I was selecting and reading random sections from a variety of owner’s manuals. Near the end of the chapter the subject changed to the concept of synergy. It talked about how everything that is seemingly completely different is in fact not. As I continued to read, everything that was touched upon earlier in the chapter was smoothly brought together.

The second chapter had information on basic crafting tools and how they are used. As well as some tips that would help in a variety of circumstances that involved crafting. It then went on and explained about different materials for a variety of crafting trades. It also listed the most common uses of each material as well as a few uncommon ones. Near the end there was a large list of materials, each one had useful information such as their properties, rarity, difficulty of use, and more.

The third chapter explained the three types of weapon damage and the three common size categories of weapons. It then went on about different combat styles. Sadly it didn’t go to deep into detail and only touched the basics. It only had information about the three most commonly known. Those being close, reach, and ranged. After listing what the book called “The three mighty three’s” It explained each of their advantages as well as each of their disadvantages.

The fourth and what I consider to be the last chapter was about magic. It talked about mana and the practical uses of it. It even went over the common elements and their traits. After that it started to explain the differences between divine and arcane magic. I learned that divine magic users use mana to channel the power of deities, while arcane magic users alter and shape mana in its purest form.

After reading the book I heard a “Ting” sound and a message appeared.

Class Change!

You have come to the realization of how much you truly do not know, but with that realization you have come to the understanding that what one knows should not be restricted by knowledge but rather knowledge should be restricted by what one knows.

You can now convert to the secret class: Factotum

If you accept, you will gain all the benefits and drawbacks this class has to offer.

If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Would you like to become a Factotum?

With a huge grin and a quivering voice I shouted “Hell yeah!”. At that moment I was enveloped in a bright light. I was so excited I had both my fist parallel to each other and was vigorously shaking them close to my chest with my eyes closed shut and a huge grin plastered on my face. As the light faded I received a message.

Archery has been converted to a primary skill.

After quickly reading the message I said “Status Window.”

+ Enables you to have an unlimited number of sub skills.

+ Enables you to ignore all requirements for learning skills.

+ Enables you to take all known skills to their highest level.

+ Enables you to equip class specific items but their requirements increase by 30%.

I don’t know why but just looking at my status window made me start laughing. It was a weird laugh, it sounded like a cheesy evil laugh. I felt like a cliché villain from a cartoon I use to watch. After coming back to my senses I closed the window and put the notebook back into my inventory. I then pulled out the three small notebooks and said “Identify” I then heard “ting, ting, ting” as three massages pooped up

Skill Book: Guide to Complete Annihilation

Requirements: Warmage

Skill Book: Teachings of Self Improvement

Requirements: Zen Weapon Master

Skill Book: Mystic Notebook of Schematics

Requirements: Artificer

After reading the messages I asked myself, “Now which one should I learn first?”
