When she finally looked at the incoming wave, she instinctively attempted to grab Rayne, but it was too late. Their hands were broken up, and their bodies were pushed in different directions.
Underwater, she insisted on trying to hold on to trees and walls that she didn’t even see, scratching her hands and arms in the process. The power of the ocean was too strong, and she was just pushed further and further away.
She had seen it in a movie, but it was just so odd to experience it live in the first person. The actual waves of the ocean are on land, the thought crossed her mind.
After a few attempts, she stopped trying to fight the tides and just allowed herself to go with them. Something sliced through her abdomen as she heard the muffled sounds of people shrieking and calling out names. It tormented her to see that some people didn’t even make it that far; it hurt her, even more, to witness some animals afloat…

Sometime later, the sea had given up some force. Alliyah was finally able to show up to the surface and take a peek around.
“Rayne!” She, likewise, howled at nowhere in particular.
The water wasn’t as towering as it appeared. It didn’t cover the small local houses. But her feet still didn’t reach the ground. Cars were floating. Thus she tried directing herself to one. Something underneath the water struck her legs, and she lost stability, once again finding herself sunk.
“Alliyah!” She heard the deadened sound of her friend’s yelp.
