She Wants In?

She Wants In?

Kristie

A loud slam of the front door caught Kristie's attention. She looked up from folding laundry. "John?" She went to the door to see her boyfriend kick a rock and then curse as he lifted his foot. She opened the door, slowly walking over, "What's Wrong?" He kept his back to her but Kristie noticed that he was shaking. "I'll just be inside if you need me, then." It was useless trying to speak to someone when they wouldn't bother answering. She felt out of place in this relationship. It was like John was jealous of her because she was able to complete nursing school. He was failing medical school, despite all of his hard work.

"Kristie, you need to drive those two back to the beach. They'll come out when they're ready." John was red faced when he turned to her. "I can't do this any more! I'm done with medical school, done with working so hard to help people when all I get is shit for it. When you get back, I won't be here. You deserve better. Go get a job and a life. I'm not going to hold you back anymore." He started walking away. He didn't want to leave Kristie, he wanted to marry her but what good would he be if he couldn't provide?

Tears began to stream down her cheeks. This moment was coming, she knew it deep down but why so soon? "John? Please don't go." He didn't stop, just kept walking. "Where will you go?" There was no answer, soon he was out of sight. She sat down on the front step trying to wipe her tears away but they kept falling. Those two guys were going to come out at any moment. This was their fault! It had to be. John would have left her eventually, but they took him away from her too early. They pushed him over the edge! Her hair stuck to her face. That is when the two men walked out. Spencer came out first so she stood to face him, yelling. "This is all your fault! All John did was try to help you!" He just stood there with a bored expression so Vickie started punching his chest, "You stupid son of a bitch!"

That's when Tyler appeared behind Vickie, wrapping his arms around her. "Hey, calm down." As she struggled, he grunted and winced as she rubbed against the inflicted wounds. She struggled for a minute or two longer before she bent herself down, crying. Tyler let her go as she knelt there, rocking herself. He dropped himself to his knees, "What's going on, Vickie? What did Spencer do to you?" He gazed up at his friend mouthing the words, 'What the Hell?"

Vickie just wailed, it was hard to understand what she was saying, "He's gone! John left me!" She grabbed at her throbbing skull, "Why did we have to find you on that beach?" She pulled away as Tyler tried to put his hand on her shoulder, "Don't touch me! It's your fault!"

Tyler stood and went next to Spencer whispering, "Maybe you were just a bit too hard on them? I mean, they were just trying to help."

Spencer stood there rubbing at his chest. Vickie wasn't very tough looking but she could throw a decent punch. He whispered back, "What do want me to do, then? "

Tyler sighed heavily, as he responded, "You really need to work on your social skills." After a few moments of hesitation, he went back towards Vickie. "Hey, I know that talking to me is the last thing you want to do right now. I just wanted to say sorry that John left you. It was sort of a dick move." He noticed she started calming down a bit, "I can go after him and drag him back if you want?"

Vickie shook her head, while wiping at her hair and tears. "He'll just end up leaving again." She stood up, wiping herself off. "Just give me a few minutes, I need to clean up a bit and then I'll drive you guys back to the beach." She glanced back at Tyler, "Oh my God! You're bleeding!" She grabbed him by the arm, "Come on." She began dragging him back inside. She didn't like them but morals override personal differences when it came to being a care giver. Spencer stepped out of the way while the two entered the house.

Tyler didn't have a chance to argue, he just went with her. Vickie led him into the bathroom. She lifted his shirt up before taking it off completely. Then, took off the bandages before grabbing bottles, gauze, bandages, gloves, and other things from a box under the sink. She placed them on the counter. He watched as she worked. "Thanks for the patch up. You really don't have to do this, you know?"

Vickie's gloved hands touched around the the newly torn area, "Some of your sutures came undone, so yes, I have to." She grabbed some gauze, pouring peroxide then started dabbing. "Just hold still, alright?" She reached over to the counter grabbing iodine prep solution, then spread it with some more gauze. "I ran out of lido cane, so this is going to hurt." Vickie grabbed a pair of forceps from the counter then wiped them down with alcohol. As she started taking out the old stitches, Tyler winced.

"I would be lying if I said that tickled." Vickie didn't react. She looked so focused on what she was doing. "So, why did you become a nurse?" It was those awkward silences that drove him nuts.

"Too many people in this world like hurting those that can't fight back." She finished taking out the old sutures. She grabbed the needle and nylon string, also wiping them with alcohol. "If you want something to bite down on, now's the time to tell me."

Tyler just shook his head, "Just give me a few seconds to concentrate. I can take a lot of pain." He closed his eyes, then said, "Let's do this!" The needle went in and while it did hurt, he was able to push past most of the pain. "You know, we don't go around hurting people for the fun of it." Another poke with the needle, "We're the ones trying to protect those that can't fight back."

Vickie shrugged, "If you say so." She was being a bit rougher than she should but that's because the conversation turned to something very uncomfortable. "Don't you think that job should be for the cops? You tough guys go around saying you're heroes but I think it's just for thrills. You get off on stuff like this."

Tyler began counting inside of his head. The anger bar started rising a bit. "Wait, you think that I get off on hurting people? Back up because I don't get my jollies off on seeing others in pain." He paused so that he could keep counting. "Those cops would not be able to handle the shit Spencer and I put up with, trust me on that."

Vickie found herself hurrying just to get this over with. When she was done, she began to bandage him up, "Yeah, well I have seen the end product of people like you. I'm the one that patches them up." Once she finished with the bandages she sighed while taking her gloves off, "Try not to do too much bending or lifting or you will have to go through this again." She began cleaning up the area.

"That will be hard to do since I've got a lot of training." He watched as she slumped her shoulders. "Vickie, you really don't understand what's facing us right now. Stuff you would not want to know about."

Vickie turned to face Tyler, "What are you facing? Let me guess! You two are super heroes that fight vampires and other crazy things like that, right?" She saw the red going to Tyler's face then lowered her head, "I'm sorry. I'm not usually like this, it's just that John leaving has really messed me up. I'm going to go get ready to drive you back."

Tyler smacked his forehead once she was gone. He then put his shirt on before joining Spencer, who was meditating on the ground. "She'll be out in a minute." He past Spencer and stood by the car.

Spencer stood up, "We don't have to defend our actions to anyone. Either they believe that we help others or they don't. Besides, the less she knows, the better."

Tyler yelled, "You pervert! You were spying on us?"

Spencer shook his head, "The window was open. It was hard ignoring that conversation."  He went closer to the car, "You can't expect someone like her to understand what we do. You can't speak about this with her, either. The less people know the better. After she brings us to the beach, forget ever knowing her."

Tyler was about to argue but Vickie emerged from the house. "Ready?" She unlocked the car while getting in the driver's seat. She waited until both of them got into the back. No one was talking so she put the radio on. She noticed that Tyler didn't deny it when she mentioned fighting vampires and stuff. If that were true, it meant they really did want to help people. They would need someone like her to help patch them up. She glanced in the mirror, and she decided. John left her, she had no job, and going back to that house would be Hell. She pulled over to the side of the road. She then looked back at them. "I want in on whatever you guys are up to."
