--Hello, this is going to be my last chapter for today. I hope you have enjoyed it so far. <3 --
Tyler was laying there for what seemed like hours. There was no clock in the room so it was hard to judge how much time had passed. Kristie would come in every once in a while to check on things before leaving again. He thought about how it must be because she was crushing on him and didn't want to admit it. Then again, it wouldn't matter since blondes weren't his thing. He did notice that his clothes were missing. While he hated the outfit, the hospital gown was much worse. Kristie informed him that he would get them back after being washed but that seemed like ages ago. Antsy was close to the feeling now. Throwing his pillow at Spencer came to mind quite a few times but he didn't want to wait for Kristie to come back to get it for him. There had to be something, anything to do while he waited for Rip Van Winkle to wake up. After a visit from their 'nurse' Tyler began counting the minutes. She came in every half hour. Two hours passed before there was any sort of movement from Spencer.
Without opening his eyes, Spencer spoke, "Where am I and why is there so many blankets on me? He brought his hands up to his face, rubbing at his eyes before trying to open them.
Tyler smiled, "Welcome back sleeping beauty. I can't really tell you where we are because I haven't been told. The reason you are covered with so many blankets is because I told them you're a cold hearted bastard. I guess she took me literally. Oh, when I say she I am actually referring to a blonde chick that thinks she's a nurse. Her name is Kristie, and you'll get to meet her in three minutes. I guess her boyfriend is some sort of medicine man or something. They found us on the beach, took our clothes, bandaged us up so here we are. Oh by the way, don't try to sit up yet unless you want to get scolded."
Spencer was still trying to make sense of what was just said, "Alright, first question is how do you know that Miss Kristie will return in three minutes? Second question is did you actually plan out that whole speech while you waited for me to wake up?"
There was a chuckle, "I needed something to do while I waited for you. Actually, make that two more minutes." He wasn't sure if he wanted to answer that last question. "The next time she leaves, we'll make a break for it. We have been here for over four hours that I know of. That gives Mr. Psycho a big head start on us to wherever he is taking Tam."
Spencer sighed, "We barely scraped by fighting that giant monkey. What makes you think we can take on the man that took our Sensei? Given our present condition, and with no idea where he is headed..." He sighed, "I know you believe that we should act more quickly but even after preparing ourselves for the cave, we barely made it out alive." Spencer couldn't stand the weight of the blankets any longer so he pulled several of them off, throwing them to the floor.
"Yeah, I see your point. We need more training and stuff but what about Tam? She would go against those creatures by herself if the roles were reversed. Doesn't she mean anything to you at all? Oh wait. Ten...nine...eight..." As soon as Tyler got to one, the door opened. "Hey Kristie, this is Spencer. You finally get to meet him since he just woke up about three minutes ago."
The first thing Kristie noticed when she entered was the blankets lying on the floor. She complained to herself about the extra laundry she would have to do. She picked them up in a bundle before tossing them into the hall. She came back, walking closer to Spencer. "Are you sure you don't want more blankets? Your body temperature is quite low."
Spencer looked up at the girl, taking a quick glance of her posture, facial expression, and tone of voice. "My temperature always runs colder than other people." He paused for a few moments to take in her reaction, "I was told that our garments were being washed, I would like them back as soon as possible. I would like the envelope that was in my rear pocket returned to me. Also, once that is finished, I would like a cup of chamomile tea."
Tyler gave her a wide smile, "See, I told you. I wouldn't keep him waiting, he gets kind of grouchy." Kristie just blushed as she left the room. Once the door was closed, he sighed heavily. "I wish I could do that with people and get away with it." He glanced over at his roommate. "Here's a big question for you, Mr. Einstein, how are we going to train without Tam?"
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.
Spencer stayed quiet for a few moments in thought, "This may be hard for you to believe but I care about Sensei Tamarah as much as, if not more than you. The primary goal is to get her back alive while staying alive ourselves. What good is being a teacher if she loses the students? Yes, she would go charging in after us but that is because she has several years while we only have two. As far as who will train us? I am not sure at the moment. We may just have to train each other for the time being." As much as that idea pained him, it would give the opportunity to gain insight of the fire element.
The door opened while Kristie rolled a cart into the room. She handed the outfits to the duo while handing Spencer the envelope and a hot cup of tea. "I'll be back later. My boyfriend will be in to check on you in about ten minutes." She took the cart out before shutting the door.
Tyler grabbed his clothes, "I don't know about you but I am definitely not waiting to get dressed." He took the hospital gown off while sitting up. "I know I'm not supposed to but it's impossible to change while laying down." After he got the shirt on, he looked over to Spencer while he stared at the envelope. "Are you going to open it or just stare at it?" There wasn't a response. He finished dressing before trying again, "Hey! Earth to Spencer. Are you going to open the envelope or wait until it turns into an ice cube?"
Spencer was trying to get some sort of reading from the enclosed letter. The strange thing was, he didn't pick up anything. This was turning into a nasty habit. Earlier at the cave, he should have been able to sense the presence of those monsters but wasn't able to. "Apologies, I was just thinking about something. I'll open it after this boyfriend is finished with his visit." He placed it on the table. While he put on his own garments, he kept thinking of what may have caused this block.
Both of them were sitting up with their legs over the edge of the bed. Spencer sipped on his tea while they waited. The door opened and a tall man entered. It was plain to see that he was a bit young. He wore a white coat but did that make him a doctor? The age did not seem to make sense to either of them. "Hello, I'm Doctor John Stewart. As you probably were informed by Kristie, we found you both unconscious at the beach earlier today. I brought you here because of," he pointed at Tyler, "you losing quite a bit of blood. I am surprised that you are able to be sitting up right now." He began to approach Tyler while taking a pen light out of his front pocket. Spencer spoke up.
"I wouldn't do that, Doctor. He made sure to make that word sound quite sarcastic. His voice lowered to a cold chilly tone. "My friend doesn't do well when people approach him too quickly." When the young man turned to look at him, Spencer stared right into his eyes. "You are a medical student, not a doctor as of yet, and I do not tolerate dishonesty. You brought us here instead of a hospital where we should have been taken for your own personal gains. I suggest that you leave this room. You will not come back here and neither will your girlfriend. We will vacate this house once we have finished speaking. You will have a car ready to take us back from where we were found." He took another sip of his tea while he watched as the so called doctor left the room. He placed the cup down while he grabbed the envelope, ripping it open. He read over it quietly to himself before reading it out loud for Tyler.
"Across the golden sea through the windy valley is where you will see true beauty. Behold a gate awaits the fate of all Humanity. This seems to be from some sort of poem. I do not recognize it and that is all that was written."
Tyler stood up,"Great, this idiot wants to play games with us! I really can't wait to tell him what I think of this when we meet face to face." He made a fist, punching his palm. "Are you ready to leave yet because I sure as Hell am. Lots of training to do and a stupid riddle to solve."
Spencer closed his eyes for a few moments as the words repeated themselves in his mind. He wanted that single line memorized. He shoved the paper back into his pocket where he originally placed it. "I think we are going to take a trip to a library tomorrow. For the rest of the day, we train and we train hard."
