Chapter 3: A New Life, And a New Last Name

John opened his eyes, still disorientated and his vision still a little blurry by the flash of light; he saw what looked like a wooden ceiling, he tried to move, but couldn’t for some reason, almost as if he was tied up in something. He turned his head to the right to see a small fireplace, the fire flickering with heat. He focused his eyes, making the blurriness go away, and peering over him were two unfamiliar faces.

There was a man and a woman, the man appeared to be in his early twenties while the woman appeared to be much younger than the man, appearing to be in her late teens. Both of them had light skin and had the facial features, resembling that of Europeans. The man had a well-built figure and had dark brown hair and light orange eyes, and the woman had long, light blonde hair and bright blue eyes, and was wearing a whitish-gray colored night gown.

“He’s waking up.” the man said softly.

“Where am I,” John said to himself. “Where did that guy send me?”

“He definitely has your nose.” the woman said.

“His nose? What are they talking about?”

“That’s strange,” the woman said. “Luckily, his hair is brown like yours, but

his eyes have two different colors, what if people start asking questions that he may be a-”

“It’s alright,” the man said. “We’ll just say that he has a rare condition.”

“Rare condition? What’s that supposed to mean. Wait, different eye color, I have his nose, reincarnation? Wait a minute, don’t tell me I…”

John then looked down at his hands (which were the only part of his body that he could move) and saw that his hands were tiny like the size of an infant, “I’m a baby?” he said in utter confusion “Well, I guess it’s not the worst way to be reincarnated. From the looks of it, I’d have to guess that I was born just a few hours ago.”

“Have you settled on a name yet?” the man said.

“Yeah,” she said. “John, after your father.”

The man smiled and picked John up and said proudly, “It’s decided then; his name will be John Beru. Welcome to the family, little guy.”

“I guess I’m restarting my childhood from scratch.” John said as his new parents put him in a small crib, his new mother sitting next to it until he fell asleep, and his new father leaving to get more wood for the fire.

As the years pass by, John is now able to walk around and see what kind of world he was reincarnated into. Whenever his mother took him out side, John would look around and take in his surroundings; as he looked, he noticed that his new family lived in a small two story medieval-style house that was mostly made from wood, a little bit of metal, and some other materials that he couldn’t identify because of its peculiar obsidian look. There was a stone wall around the house, standing about three feet in height and having a round-shaped top. The house also had electrical lighting and had running water from a well near it. The setting that the house was located was in a grassy flatland with some hills and trees scattered around near the house and around the top of the hills. The house was also next to a wide dirt road with one end stretching towards a small town that was a few miles away from the house and the other end stretching towards a pass in the mountains in the distance.

The small town (which John’s parents went to whenever they needed food or other supplies) was made up of small businesses like shops, an inn, a stable for horses, and a blacksmith shop. The buildings were composed of mostly wood, and resembled that of medieval European housing. Like the house John lived in, the town ran on electricity and had a shared water system.

The people of the town were mostly all human, fair skinned and had a range of hair colors, mostly blondish-brown and brown, but there were a small number of other hair colors like red, green, and black. But what was also interesting to him was that there was no person he saw who had pure blonde hair, it was either mixed with another color like brown or was so dark it looked almost red. His mother told him that it was because the only people that were recorded to have golden blonde hair were the founders of the old empire, the Zarosians who were believed to be direct decedents of the golden haired goddess named Xenith, who was also called the goddess of light.

John also learned that the flatland that they were in was in the northeastern side of a country called Oriana, which was a large country located in the northern part of the continent by the name of Sorim. Sorim was a large continent created by the goddess of light and seven dragons. Sorim contained eight countries of varying sizes with Oriana being the largest in population, stretching from the far north of Sorim to the east and a bit of the west.

The other nations were Mossa, a country directly under Oriana in southeastern Sorim; A’Kumen, a large, desert country located in southwestern Sorim. Taril, the third largest country located west of Oriana, separated from Oriana by the Sea of White. Xain, the smallest and youngest country, being located in the northwest; Eitra, a small country located under Xain. Hymal, a smaller country nicknamed the “Walled Country” due to the people of Hymal building a tall wall around its borders that is said to stretch to the heavens like a mountain. Located next to Mossa and Jericosa, a country between A’Kumen and Hymal that stretched up to Oriana.

John learned that the eight nations formed a unified navy force called The United Sorim Fleet, and positioned it near the coastlines of Hymal and Mossa. The purpose of the fleet was to protect Sorim from demonic creatures that originated from the far depths of the ocean, known as “The Shaytan Aquashi”, which had almost destroyed Sorim many years ago in the event called “The Flood” after the fall of the fall of the First empire, a once great empire that originated in Oriana, conquering nearly every square feet of Sorim before its collapse due to exhausting their military to defeat the Aquashi and a rebellion led by the sultan of A’Kumen, the czar of Eitra, and an ancestor of the royal family that now rules Oriana, the Ferdinands.

John also heard about the large capitol city of Oreana that was hundreds of miles from the town, and was built next to a large sea called the Sea of White, but his father would always make sure John never heard too much about the city, almost like he was hiding something from him. John also noticed that his father always put something in his eyes to change the color of his irises before entering the town. John always found that strange, but he didn’t think to much on it considering that his parents would commonly keep any mention of their past or place of origin under closed lips. “Just what were they hiding?” John would occasionally ask himself.
