One peaceful evening in Osaka, Japan, John Hayashi, a young, half-Japanese, half-American man (around eighteen years old) with short, dark brown hair and brown eyes, wearing blue jeans and a black long sleeve shirt, runs down the city sidewalk. He ran down the sidewalk, seemingly excited about something for a while before arriving at a small, two-storied, blue colored house. He quickly entered it, wiping the sweat from his face, “I’m gonna finally do it, I’m gonna ask Yuki out!” he exclaimed to himself proudly. He took a watch he was wearing on his wrist and put it in a small drawer in a table that had a laptop computer sitting atop it next to a game disc cover with the title, “Guns Online” on the front of it. Hanging above the desk was a picture of John as a child holding a violin, his parents standing on each side of him.
“A pretty good memory.” John said, “One of the few times I got to see my…. Oh no, I forgot I can’t be late or I’ll miss her!” he panicked.
John rushed up the stairs and entered his room; he then changed out of his shirt and replaced it with a white t-shirt as he exited his room. He hurried down the stairs saying, “I got to hurry before her shift ends if I wanna surprise her.” to himself before reaching the last set of steps.
He exited the house, running as fast as he could to meet Yuki. After running, he finally arrived at a small café at the end of a city block. “Damn it,” he said to himself. “I’m just a few minutes late, I hope she didn’t already leave.”

He then saw a beautiful, young, Japanese woman (around the same age as him) exiting the café. John recognized her as Yuki.
“Hey, Yuki.” John called out to her.
“Oh, hey John.” she replied.
“Yuki listen, I have to tell you something.” John said, panting from running.
"Yes, and what is that?” she asked.
John caught his breath and asked, “Would you like to go out with me sometime?”
“Sorry,” she said. “No, I’m not ready for a boyfriend just yet. And besides, I’m busy packing for a trip to see my parents in Nara in a few days.”
John was frozen for a few seconds before responding with, “Oh.”
“I better go now, bye, John, see you tomorrow.” Yuki said as she walked away, leaving John still standing, staring ahead and watching her walking away.
After standing there in front of the café for awhile, John slowly walked back to his house. The sun setting as he walked, “Well, at least I tried.” he said to himself. “She’s not ready for that kind of relationship just yet? That’s fine, I’ll just remain her friend and be there for her, it’s the least I could do for all she’s done for me.”
He arrived at his house. Checking his mailbox, he found an envelope from a college. Slowly opening the door and hanging his head, John made his way up the stairs, tripping on one of the steps that was closest to the top floor. He got back up and walked into his room. “I’ll just read this tomorrow. I hope the college accepted me.” he mumbled as he set the envelope on a desk and went into his bathroom. After showering and brushing his teeth, John face-planted himself onto his bed, drifting off to sleep.
