Chapter 17: Fairy Arc (4)

Chapter 17: Fairy Arc (4)

[chriiiket-chriiket]

It’s heavy. Fatigue setting in. It would be a lie to say the last 5 days were easy. The brigade struggled every night. The groans of pain echoed throughout the forest. Pain. You lay on the ground, holding your belly. It felt like your guts were being punched over and over. Like your stomach twisting in knots. Your can’t hold it in any longer. You pray. Pray for salvation…

[groannn]

“Hey Tibs… done with the washroom yet?” (Soldier)

“Yeah, its a stinker” (Soldier Tibbel)

“Thanks!” (Soldier)

Rushing towards the river was yet another one of Marcus’s victims.

Though Marcus was oblivious, slow-headed, and down right stupid, he knew his food was horrible. Marcus earnestly tried his best to improve the quality of his food! He did it, not for himself, but for the terrified fairies begging him to keep Yunni away from the pot. Marcus couldn't fathom just how unappetizing her cooking was, but at this point, he was too afraid to find out.

I hope she like this one…

“Hey Yunni, here’s a bowl” (Marcus)

“Thanks” (Yunni)

“...So how is it?” (Marcus)

“It’s...good” (Yunni)

Wha-really?

“Hehe, that’s great!” (Marcus)

Marcus’s innocent smile caused Yunni to blush. Marcus ignorance knew no bounds; the moment Marcus logs out is the moment Yunni ‘explodes’. Figuratively and literally.

Aside from...dietary problems...the brigade has progressed rather smoothly. Over 300 Galzars were defeated; even though Marcus did his utmost to help, he actually played a very minor role against the horde of demons. The fairies were strong. The captain himself was hovering around level 80, while the average level of the soldiers was 60. Marcus on the other hand was only level 18...

“Ahem. Attention men! We arrived at the Galzar base. We will be executing plan B. Please be on standby in 1 hour” (Captain Cornel)

“Plan B?” (Marcus)

“You didn’t hear? Plan A was to scout the enemies base. Plan B is to destroy it” (Soldier)

“Ah. How come we’re doing plan B?” (Marcus)

“Simple, the Galzars are weak. No need to delay it any further” (Soldier)

Weak eh?

Indeed, the Galzars were fairly weak. Their bodies are naturally small and their intelligence subpar. As they mature, only their arms would be consider a lethal weapon. Their fire magic is average at best, and their curse required several of them to gather around. Against an army of well trained fairies, the Galzars never stood a chance.

So this is it…

Standing outside a cave, the fairies gather. Rapier sharpen, cloths repaired (all thanks to Marcus), they were ready to fight!

Marcus tagged along as the fairies powered through the hordes of Galzar. None of the fairies thought of Marcus as a nuisance but everyone was higher level than him. So he was stuck as Yunni’s personal bodyguard.

“Yawn~ This is relaxing” (Marcus)

After dispatching 100 Galzars, they finally stopped at the 3rd floor...It was spacious, a single cavern with a tall ceiling. Though it was big, the only light source they had was a giant floating orb controlled by Tibs. No one could see to the end of the room, the darkness seem endless….

[waaaaaaaaaaaah...]

A woeful cry echoed against the walls. The wail of despair. Marcus’s heart wavered. The sound of a woman weeping took hold of Marcus’s soul. He couldn't explain why but he felt her sorrow...

As the brigade marched forward, the light slowly revealed the lost soul. A mother holding her child. Her pitch black hair blended with the background. It draped over her face as she continued to cry in agony. The image of a mother despairing over the death of her child caused Marcus to shed a tear. He didn't realize it yet but it wasn't a human he was looking at...

It was a Galzar.

The fairies held their rapier steady as the the backline chanted their magic. This was it. The end for the Galzars.

[waaaaaaaaaahhh…]

“Fairies, ready...aim...f-” (Captain Cornel)

“WAIT!” (Marcus)

Annoyed, the captain turned to Marcus with his arms crossed.

“What is it soldier?” (Captain Cornel)

“We can’t kill a mother grieving over her dead child!” (Marcus)

“That's no mother Marcus! That’s a DEMON!” (Captain Cornel)

“But-” (Marcus)

“No buts. Soldiers, ready-aim-FIRE!” (Captain Cornel)

Marcus was blown back the a huge gust of wind; the recoil even cause some fairies to fall. The cavern shook vigorously as the dust slowly settled. Everyone was relieved. They finally killed the boss....

Huh?

Marcus stood there as he waited for the window to pop up; congratulating him on completing the quest. However, nothing in life goes as planned...

[boooohooohooo…]

“...” (Soldiers)

[booooooohooohooo…]

The air around Marcus became stagnant. The feeling of bugs crawling on his skin made him shiver in fear. He couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was about to happen.

[kekekekekeke!]

“FAIRIES, CHARGE YOUR MAGIC!” (Captain Cornel)

[KEKEKEKEKEKE!]

“Ready! Aim! Fi-” (Captain Cornel)

“ROAAARRR” (Galzar???)

The deafening roar caused a massive shockwave! Everything and everyone was blown back several meters. Standing like a majestic beast was the King. The appearance itself was enough drained the blood from your face. It had a body like a gorilla, except there was no hair. There was absolutely nothing covering the huge, bulging, red muscles. Two horns at the side of its temple made it look even more ferocious. No matter how you looked at it, it was angry...it was enraged...it was...a monster.

“ROAR!” (Galzar King)

“Soldier engage!” (Captain Cornel)

Marcus was completely lost. The scene of a one sided slaughter flashed over his glazed eyes. His feet were trembling. His face was bleached white. He didn't know what to do.

T-this monster is t-too strong!

“Marcus!” (Yunni)

“...” (Marcus)

“Marcus watch out!” (Yunni)

[boom]

Marcus was blown away by a powerful swing. The sudden shocked caused Marcus to snap out of his fear. He felt something warm... looking down at his hands, he noticed the blood...

Yunni?

“...” (Yunni)

“Yunni? YUNNI?!” (Marcus)

Her body was getting cold.

“YUNNI! Wake up! YUNNI!” (Marcus)

The battle with King Galzar still persisted. Everyone was too focus to noticed what happened to Yunni.

“Someone! Please, I need help!” (Marcus)

“...Marcus…” (Yunni)

“Yunni! You’re alive! Wait right here, I’ll put some medicine on you!” (Marcus)

Marcus was frantic. His heart was tearing in two. He continue to apply red salve on Yunni while trying to convince himself everything was okay.

“It’s okay Yunni! It’s okay!” (Marcus)

“...Marcus...I-I love you…” (Yunni)

“Hic-Stay strong Yunni! You’re not going anywhere!” (Marcus)

“Marcus...please...one last kiss before I…” (Yunni)

“Hic-Yunni! Please! Yunni!” (Marcus)

Yunni’s arm went limp. Marcus’s heart dropped. He was hysterical. He kept kissing Yunni over and over. She wouldn’t wake up.

“Yunni! Please, Yunniiiii!” (Marcus)

The cry of a broken soul was overshadowed by clash between the fairies and demon king. Marcus heart was broken...but it was still beating.

[ba-dump, ba-dump]

He gently laid down Yunni and slowly stood up. Each breath he took grew larger and larger. His teeth were grinding. His brow furrow. He was seething in anger. He wanted to curse the gods for such a cruel fate-curse the world for everything that was wrong-curse the people who always bullied him at school-curse the demon that killed Yunni-curse himself for being so weak! Curse, curse, curse, curse,CURSE,CURSE…!

Rage.

“WA-ROOOARRR!” (Marcus)

The fairies fell back. Stun. Confused. Since when was there two beast in the cage?

[BOOM]

A trail of dust streaked across the cavern.

“ARG!” (Marcus)

“ROAR” (Galzar King)

The clashed sent waves rippling through the air. Each blow caused blood to splatter from the king’s fist. Gouging his hoe into the king’s arm, the king retaliate with a left hook. Marcus spun several meters back, landing on his feet.

“ROAR” (Galzar King)

“Equip!” (Marcus)

Be it an axe, shovel, or his fist; Marcus didn’t stop the assault. The fairies could only watch in awe as Marcus threw the king over his shoulder.

“HAH!” (Marcus)

Slaming his knee down on the king’s chest, Marcus began -crushing- the king’s skull with his fist.

“ROAR” (Galzar King)

It wasn’t over. The king threw Marcus aside and started spitting fireballs. Marcus never knew how useful 13.8% fire resistance was until now. His smoldering body surged from the flames. He devoured every last bit of red/yellow leaves and red clover he had.

“Hah..Hah..” (Marcus)

Marcus was out of breath. He didn’t know how much longer he could brawl.

[BOOM]

Another explosion of wind magic. Marcus gave the fairies enough time to recover! As the smoke cleared, the king was on his last leg...

“We can do this! Don’t let up!” (Captain Cornel)

The king started to lash out in a frenzy!

The fairies attacked in waves, leaving no room for the king to escape. Slash after slash, the demon was getting backed in a corner...

“...Marcus…” (Yunni)

“Huh? Yunni?!” (Marcus)

Yunni. Supposedly dead, was now limping towards Marcus. Every fiber in Marcus body was screaming at him to move.

He stood there watching as everything slowed down.

[rumble]

[ba-dump, ba-dump]

A beast was trampling towards the princess. It was on its last breath.

[ba-dump, ba-dump]

Photos of a lion pouncing on its prey flipped through Marcus’s mind.

[ba-dump, ba-dump]

Marcus’s body was sluggish. He urged his body to move. To run. To get there one second faster.

[ba-dump, ba-dump]

“Yunni!” (Marcus)

“ROAR!” (Galzar King)

***

Silence. Standing in a cloud of smoke was the Galzar King and Marcus.

“M-M-Marcus?” (Yunni)

Blood was dripping from the demons fangs. The king was frozen, gnawing on Marcus’s throat. But Marcus wasn’t done yet. Lodge deep in the demon’s heart was Marcus’s axe. The standoff was finished. The two beast collapsed.

Marcus could only give Yunni a meek smile. How funny it was, now that their roles were reversed. Marcus couldn’t hear a word Yunni was saying. All he could see were tears running down her face. He clenched his fist. He felt something. Something small in his hands. He wanted to see what it was...but…

Author's Rant: Edit: Thanks for your encouraging words. I'll ignore said comment for now. I'll seek out a moderator to remove the review later.

Author's Rant: Hey guys! Thanks for reading my work. I might sound like a pissy pants for getting upset with a review, but this one really ticked me off. Please read below.

By pantiadjie

if every guys who review is talking its awesome its great its the best….then the author wont improve..all u guys need to put the bad side too…ive been reading review for every fic i click and mostly it say its awesome its great its the best…man up and put some bad side too…be it character style grammar or story …geez….just because this site put warning for the review doesnt mean u hav to put its awesome its the best for every thing that interest u -_-

First, I'm not upset about what rating he gave me. He could give me a 1/10 for all I care. What really bothers me is how he claims to be some sort of righteous person, preaching his ways on how to rate FFs. He ranting how everyone is too nice giving good ratings and how they should give proper critiques on how to improve.

How they hell am I suppose to improve when all you do is talk shit and don't even point out a single problem!

I try my darnest to put in good grammar for you guys! But this jerk gives me a 2.5/5 stars for grammar? Seriously? Did he even read anything. No. He didn't. If you read his review, he's reviewing based on the reviews.

How does that even make any sense? It's utter troll IMO, I hope a moderator reads this and bans this fool. Who the hell writes a review based on reviews.

I only wanted to write a good story for you guys to enjoy. When I see shit like this, it really pisses me off.

I'm not asking you guys to give me good ratings. All I'm asking is some honest opinions or some thanks.

tl:dr If host or moderator can check out a review by pantiadjie in Golden Age, I honestly believe it's a troll review. Please remove it, thanks.
