The final test

The final test

As the cloak took form I poured a stream of magic into both my hands, one stream from the nature magic on my back, and one stream from the light magic circle on my chest. I formed two swords, both keeping their shape thanks to the immense source of dark magic. I started running up the legs of the giant slowly making my way to its shoulder.

* “Jin!” I shouted as I made it to the giants neck

* “What!?” He shouted back

* “Put that magic thread on your back!” I said as I shot a thin cord from the circle on my back

* “Like this?” He asked as he placed it on his back

* “Perfect!”

As he put it on his back his armour changed shape, his wings grew to the size they were at the beginning of this battle, and his armour got green flames seeping through the gaps in the armour.

* “Now all the nature magic I absorb will be split between us, and the same goes for the magic power you take from it!” I shouted as I kept slashing at the monster who was shrinking the more magic Jin took

* “That’s good!” Jin said as he caught me after I fell

I jumped from Jin to the arm of the giant which I had been trying to cut of, while I was doing that Jin was trying to fly around the giant and cut it from all sides so it wouldn't be able to counter attack, but just before I cut the arm of the giant split into two human sized monsters that had magic power equal to us at this point. We both took on one each, but these monsters were smart, they cut the cord connecting me and Jin and made it so we couldn’t take magic from them, and the nature magic in the forest was running out, so we had to beat them with only the magic we currently had. We fought for days wearing the enemy down but also ourselves, we also got tired quicker since we had to turn nature magic into nutrition.

After a while I had to replace the dark magic that was disappearing with my own magic so the light magic I was using disappeared after six days of battling, but after another four days I managed to defeat my enemy by trapping them with nature magic and using all the dark magic I had left to blast a hole through the thing turning it to dust, I went to help Jin who was fighting using only fire and light magic, since the fight had gone on so long he had also run out of magic, he only had light magic left since he didn’t need his wings while facing this foe. As I jumped in, instead of attacking the enemy I gave all the magic I had left to Jin in hope that he could pull something off to defeat his enemy. Right as my magic entered him his sword turned a black and white color and growing in size, he swung it at the monster cutting it cleanly in two, after that we both were completely drained falling forward completely out of strength.

* “At least you didn’t pass out this time.” I heard Uxor say as she caught me

* “You did good, son.” Dryadalis said as he caught Jin

* “Thanks, but it’s all thanks to Loki, without him I would have died at the final part here.” Jin said as Dryadalis helped him walk

* “What are you talking about? We won because we worked together.” I said as I got healed by Lexia

* “Why are you both so beaten up?” She asked as I started to stand by myself

* “That’s because they have been fighting with different species with different magic types for two months straight.” Lupus said as he sat on my shoulder

* “That's a bit far don’t you think?” Lexia asked the wolf

* “They wanted to grow stronger and they have increased their strength without absorbing power from other beings by four times. And if they used the abilities they learned during these two months they're probably twenty times stronger. And by using the power they gain while connected they are over forty times stronger.” Lupus answered

* “So what’s the next stage of training?” Jin asked as he got healed

* “I’ll let you know at breakfast tomorrow, for now, good job clearing the test.” Lupus said as we left for home

As we got home me and Jin immediately sat down at the dinner table, waiting for food after not eating for two months straight, and after twenty more minutes of waiting we were greeted by so much food it could feed a kingdom, or the two of us right now.

* “What did you learn?” Dryadalis asked as we ate

* “I learned how to borrow magic from nature.” I said while still eating

* “I learned how to take magic from my enemies during combat.” Jin said while filling his plate with more food

* “Anything you need to work on?” Lupus asked next

* “How to better control dark magic, once during these two months I even had to let the magic run wild because I got knocked unconscious.” I said

* “That’s not good if you're planning to fight the gods.” Lupus said

* “What about you son?” Dryadalis asked

* “I need to increase my magic control and my magic reserves.” Jin replied

* “I also need to increase my reserves in order to enter that cloaked form without help.” I said

* “Same, I need to be able to use that armoured state without your nature magic.” Jin said

* “By the way Jin, do you have any of that magic left?” I asked

* “No, all of that magic ran out during the battle.” Jin said while taking a bite of pizza

* “How much of that magic power can you store?” Lexia asked

* “About as much as my own magic I can hold, it’s like having two bags of the same size, one is filled to the brim with your magic, and you can fill the other one to the brim with other people's magic.” Jin answered

* “So the more you increase your magic reserves the more magic you can absorb?”

* “Exactly, but I can’t absorb other people's attacks if they're far away.” Jin said

* “How can they attack if they’re far away?” Lexia asked

* “By doing this.” Uxor said while shooting a water droplet from her fingers

* “It’s a technique within support and combat magic shapes.” Lupus said

* “But the support type is nearly impossible to master, the furthest someone has healed from was thirty meters.” Uxor said

* “But I managed to do it after three days of training in that forest.” I said

* “Because combat shaped range attacks are ridiculously easy in comparison.” Dryadalis said

* “What were the monsters we faced in there?” I asked

* “They are spirits that died in there.” Lupus answered

* “Would we have fought the next people who entered that forest if we died?” Jin asked

* “No, because you wouldn’t have died.” Dryadalis said

* “But you said the only way to pass was to not die.” Jin said

* “It was probably so we would fight like our life depended on it.” I said

* “Exactly.” Dryadalis said

* “But you're still not strong enough to beat even a mid ranking officer in the human army.” Lupus said as to make sure we didn’t get cocky

* “They can’t be that strong.” Jin said

* “No, they are, even my friend with the weakest power is still twice as strong as us at full power.” I said

* “At our full strength!?” Jin asked in shock

* “Yes, and they probably have grown stronger as well.” Lupus said

* “If they grow at the same rate that we do then how can we beat them?” Jin asked

* “Their limit is that they can only grow twice as strong as the power they originally have.” Lupus said

* “So they are probably around the strength of a high ranking elf officer now, and their peak is around my strength.” Dryadalis said

* “And that was the weakest of them.” I said

* “Seems like you need to start training again dear.” Uxor said

* “Yeah, maybe.” Dryadalis said as he gave of a slight chuckle

* “And I doubt that their training is as brutal as ours is, plus you two are able to grow by making up for each other's weaknesses but if everyone gets their power from the same place they have the same weaknesses.” Lupus said

* “So we can get ahead if we train hard enough?” Jin asked

* “Honestly, I think you’re already better at fighting than them since you have experienced real combat.” Dryadalis said

* “Can you tell us what the next stage of our training is now?” Jin asked

* “Fine, but don’t blame me if you don’t get enough sleep.” Lupus said

* “It can’t be that bad.” I said

* “It is.” Dryadalis said

* “What is it?” I asked

* “You’ll be sparring with me and Lupus everyday, for the rest of the year only being able to take breaks to sleep.” Dryadalis said

* “And eat right?” Jin asked fearing the worst

* “No, only sleep.” Lupus said

* “But there’s like six months left of the year!” Jin shouted

* “Yes, and you will be training with only sleep, for nine months, since that is how long is left until we are leaving.” Lupus said

* “Where are you planning to go next?” Lexia asked looking at me

* “I want to check out where the demi-humans live.” I answered

* “Isn’t that in the elf’s territory?” Lexia asked

* “No, that’s not where they originally lived.” Dryadalis said. “But I don’t think anyone lives in the wild lands anymore.”

* “I’m going there because I overheard some humans about going there to get demi-humans to sell next summer.” I said as I got up from the table

* “So you’re going there to protect them?” He asked

* “Yes, that’s my plan.” I said as I took my plate to the kitchen

* “I recommend that you use your elf disguise while there.” Uxor said

* “I know, I will.” I said and entered Jin’s room to get some sleep
