Chapter 35: Upgrades

SMACK!

Caeldaemos’ eyes shot open to look up into the cold-looking faces of Liara and Rana.

“Mm.”

Caeldaemos looked at the soft and warm object on his arm… it was Listamati.

“I….”

Liara drew her fingers over her lips for him to zip-it and follow them.

He exited the bed in the far corner of the boss’s room and followed the two wives away.

His usual large and intimidating figure now looked small and pitiful.

Once they were far enough, the wives turned to face him.

“Really, Cael?” Liara started.

Caeldaemos fell to his knees. “I’m sorry, we just, I….”

“We actually expected this, Cael,” Rana informed him, feeling bad about letting Liara tease him.

“Huh?” Caeldaemos was confused.

“Come on, Cael. You didn’t give us the details, but it sounded like you saved her from her past. We had an inkling that she was interested in your romantically but stopped herself out of guilt. Once you cleared her past trauma away, how could she not fall for you too?” Liara threw her hands up in frustration.

“We planned to talk to her when she woke, but we got too tired and went to sleep. We did not expect her to jump you in the middle of the night.” Rana commented.

It was then that a panicked Listamati rushed up to them, wrapped in a sheet. “Wait! Please! It-It is not his fault, I-!”

“They knew Lista.” Caeldaemos cut in.

“What?” She blushed and couldn’t meet their eyes.

“It’s all my fault! Lista should not be punished. Thusly, what must I do?” Caeldaemos spoke.

A sultry smile came to Liara’s face. She reached over and pulled over a confused Listamati. “We now have a new party member. Today, we will conquer the Mighty Dragon Daemos.”

“Oh, come on, really?” Caeldaemos half complained.

“What? Afraid that we may succeed with such a powerful new ally?” Liara teased.

Caeldaemos got annoyed again at her teasing.

“Wait! You don’t know what you’re saying!” Listamati said in a panic.

“What do you mean?” Rana asked.

“I couldn’t last two rounds with him!” The demoness cried.

“What? Are you that sensitive?” Liara tried teasing, but something felt off to her now.

A wide grin came to Caeldaemos’ face as he began to tower over the three ladies, his eyes lit up, his dragon ready for battle.

“We forgot he evolved!” Rana cried seeing the improved dragon.

“I’ll show you what a True Demon-Lord is capable of,” Caeldaemos said jokingly.

“WAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!” They screamed as they were pulled away.

Lily woke up and went up to Geon. “Good morning, Geon! How… Are you okay?” She asked while tilting her head.

Geon’s eyes were bugging out, and her face beat red. She huffed, and steam came out of her nostrils.

“Geon!” Lily shouted.

“HWAH!?” Geon flipped backward and looked down at Lily.

“Are you okay? Your face is really red.” Lily asked.

“Me?! Uh. Yeah! I’m good!” Geon looked down at Lily, but her eyes often shifted away like she was looking at something else.

Lily looked around and saw only Orelia, who had just awakened, and Mari, still sleeping.

“Geon. Where are the others?” Lily asked, a creeping suspicion in her expression.

“Um… They’re... training? I made a separate room for them.” Geon answered with an awkward smile.

“Really? I could use some training!” Lily pretended that she was going to run to them.

“WAIT!” Geon created a wall in front of Lily. “Don’t!”

Lily gave Geon a mischievous smile. “It’s okay, Geon. I can put two and two together. I will start breakfast since I don’t know how long they will be. Oh, it’s not good to spy on them.”

Geon’s face and core blushed crimson in embarrassment. Geon rushed down into the depths of her core and refused to come out for hours.

“Good morning, everyone!” Liara greeted.

Though the three women looked happy, they also looked haggard.

Caeldaemos behind them huffed with pride.

“It’s nearly afternoon, Miss Liara.” Orelia pointed out.

The three ladies blushed.

“Y-Yes, it is. My mistake.” Liara replied.

Rana noticed her daughter’s knowing smile, so the mother covered her face in embarrassment while whining.

“I could really go for something to eat.” Listamati, the least tired of the three, moved to their makeshift cooking station.

“Let me help you. Mom seems a bit too… eh, I’ll cook.” Lily said, hopping over to make something.

“What do you think happened?” Mari whispered her question to Orelia.

“Something I wish I could have gotten an invite to….” Orelia said, a single tear slipping from her eye.

“You really don’t!” Rana cried out, her hearing being able to pick up their conversation.

They looked at her in question.

Her embarrassment hitting its max, she howled in frustration and ran away.

“Next time Cael, take it a bit easier on her….” Liara asked.

“I tried… But out of the three of you, Rana is the most aggressive.” Caeldaemos replied.

Liara laughed aloud and went off to find her friend.

Most of the remaining days went by idly, each of them training their skills and abilities. Caeldaemos had finally gotten to a good enough rank in Create Item that he upgraded everyone’s equipment using dragon scales he got from Geon. He could not form magic circuits yet or add enchantments, but everyone had high-quality equipment. Giiwo even got upgraded to a Bronze golem. Sadly, a golem made from dragon scales was too much for Rana’s current skill level.

“Alright, everyone! Gather around for your abilities!” While Geon had been preparing to teleport them all to her friend’s dungeon, she had been getting ready to maximize their reward for being the first to conquer her dungeon.

Geon looked at Mari first. “Hmm… Looks like the One with Darkness ability is your maxed-out Hereditary ability.” The core commented.

“What? Really?” Mari asked in surprise.

“Yeah. Sorry, nothing I can do about that. But at the very least, instead of being something you get by being with the Demon-Lord, it will now be a part of your bloodline.” Geon did her thing, and Mari’s One with Darkness ability became hereditary.

“Don’t ever let demons know of your ability,” Listamati warned the demi-human.

“Next is Orelia! Hmm… Looks like a choice. Pentagonal Barrier or Redemption. The first is a powerful barrier ability from both magic and physical attacks. The second is the ability to revive people if performed within one hour, but it has a month-long cooldown time.” Geon said.

“Then allow me to have the Pentagonal Barrier. I would prefer to avoid dying again unless it was in service of my lord.” Orelia bowed her head to Caeldaemos.

“Value your life more than that. I would hate for you to sacrifice yourself for me.” Caeldaemos lectured.

“Next, the adorable Lily!” Geon cheered. “Hmm, hmm, hmm… Uh… Wow… You literally have everything available to you. Think of something you want, and I will see if it is available.”

Caeldaemos assumed it might have been because of the Talented Special.

Lily asked for a bit to think and stepped back.

“Alright, while Lily thinks, Rana! You… Wow, what a bloodline. At least I know Lily got it from you. The ability that is available to you is something that could support your Golem skill really well. It upgrades your Instill Spirit, which changes mana stones into golem cores. It will change to Artificial Soul. You will still be able to create golem cores, but this will allow you to insert artificially created souls into objects, giving them a will bound to you.” Geon explained.

“Really? I don’t know… it sounds like treading on the gods….” Rana whimpered.

“You’re a spouse of the Demon-Lord. It is kind of our thing.” Liara commented playfully.

Rana eventually relented and accepted.

“Miss Liara… Okay, it looks like there is one for you. Draconic Form. It will allow you to turn into a dragon temporarily.” Geon said.

Liara seemed conflicted about accepting something related to her father’s blood.

“Is there anything that could help break a curse?” Liara asked.

“Nope. Sorry. There is one more. It would unlock your hereditary abilities, Spirit Walk and Spirit Form.” Geon offered.

“That, please.” Liara happily accepted.

When Geon applied the change, Liara was enshrouded by a cocoon of light.

“Is she going to be okay?” Caeldaemos asked.

Geon looked intently at the cocoon. “Looks like her body is changing. Spirits are very pure beings. It is surprising to even see a half-demon, half-spirit. It makes me wonder what kind of dark ritual was performed to do that.”

“What do you mean by that?” Caeldaemos asked in shock.

“Hmm? Seems like you guys don’t know this. Demons and Spirits cannot intermix species. Regular fae-folk could, but I could tell at a glance that her mother must have been a high-level spirit.” Geon explained.

Caeldaemos looked angry. Little was known about what occurred between Liara’s mother and father, but this news made it apparent that something evil had happened. Another objective for when they go to the demon nation.

“Now, for Lis-.” Geon started.

“Um, could I ask something?” Listamati interrupted.

Geon wanted to get mad, but for some reason, she couldn’t bring herself to get mad at innocent acting Listamati. “Sure.”

“Your friend’s dungeon is in a human nation, correct?” Geon nodded to Listamati’s question. “Would it be possible for the two of us to get a skill to alter our appearance? Humans despise Demons.”

Geon blinked a couple times in surprise before laughing. “True! Very true! Let me check!” Geon looked over the two demons. “Looks like I can give both of you the Alter Appearance ability, but it won’t be hereditary. But that aside, I could upgrade a skill or ability with the left-over power. I still need to save some for Lily.”

They agreed and received the ability to alter their appearances.

“Oh yeah! Caeldaemos, I have an idea for you.” Geon started while Listamati began thinking about what she wanted.

“Sure, what you got?” Caeldaemos asked.

“I saw you have Void Space. I just thought that if you upgrade it, it will become a powerful ability called Domain. This will allow you to establish and control the areas you create. Now, instead of having infinite storage like Void Space, you can establish whole environments within a pocket dimension. Of course, the domains you could establish would be massive, with you being a True Demon-Lord. You will probably want to clean out what you have stored just in case, though.” Geon explained.

Caeldaemos liked the idea and stepped away to empty the void space.

Lily still could not decide. She wanted to ask Liara, but she was still in the midst of her transformation.

“Mom, what do you think?” Lily asked.

Rana smiled at her daughter. She noticed Lily kept looking at Liara’s cocoon and wished her daughter would have come to her first, but she was still happy. “If I were Liara, I would recommend something supporting your chosen class.”

Lily approached Geon. “Hey, Geon. Do you have anything speed related? One with Darkness is a powerful skill for moving, but if there were no shadows, I wouldn’t be able to move.”

“That I can talk about. There is a powerful speed skill called Flash Step. It combines light, lightning, wind, and time elements. Your senses and body will be greatly strengthened to where things will seem to move slowly for you. All the while, your body will be sped up to keep up with your senses. So it will feel like time is slowed for everyone around you, but you just perceive the world that much faster.” Geon explained.

“That sound so cool!” Caeldaemos shouted from where he finished clearing his Void Space.

Lily smiled brightly. “I’ll take that then!”

Geon gave Lily her hereditary ability.

“Okay, here I go. Flash Step!” The world around Lily came to a near halt, and everything became gray-scaled. She saw her father and decided to play a trick on him. She quickly approached him, rapidly combed his messy black hair that had grown out, and braided it. Lily returned to her spot and acted innocently as the timer ran out.

Caeldaemos stopped for a moment and felt the back of his head. “Did you use your impossibly powerful skill to give me braids?”

The rest laughed and giggled, saying he looked adorable with pigtails. Rana went over and undid the pigtails for him.

“So, think of anything yet?” Geon asked the last person.

“I just can’t decide. Can you upgrade classes?” Listamati asked.

“I can!” Geon cheerily answered.

Listamati asked for that and shivered as her class upgraded.

Baba Yaga. This class came to be from a Hero of the past. A master of guns and physical combat, anything can become a weapon in their hand. Unlock the following skills: Gun Mastery, Martial Combat, Sniper Sight, Ambush, Melee Weaponry, and Stealth.

“Looks like your stealth got upgraded to One with Darkness.” Caeldaemos was wide-eyed over the existence of the class.

Listamati began going through various motions of combat. “This class is amazing. Thanks, Geon. To think it was created by a hero.”

“Honestly, I was not expecting that….” Geon’s expression was stunned.

“I got everything out, Geon,” Caeldaemos reported.

Mari challenged Listamati and quickly lost.

Geon upgraded Caeldaemos’ Void Space to the Domain skill and ability. Relevant knowledge of how the ability worked flowed into his mind.

Domain was far more potent than Caeldaemos thought it was, from Geon’s description. Not only could he create pocket dimensions or set areas in the world as a ‘domain,’ he could establish rules within the domain. The rules could range from something simple as storage to creating a living, breathing world. Gaining the power to grow and develop more complex rules for the domain required an initial ‘Collection.’ Caeldaemos turned to Geon.

“Domain is like a dungeon.” Caeldaemos inquired with her.

Geon smiled widely. “Correct! Now, I don’t think you would be able to create an actual dungeon, but you could get close. Though with you being able to establish domains, they are all linked to you, so you can travel between them or have them with you at all times.”

“How does the collection work? What am I collecting?” Caeldaemos asked.

“Spiritual energy. All living beings, with the exception of dungeon-created monsters, generate spiritual energy. Living beings are constantly generating and expelling this energy all the time. Having people around the entrance or inside allows us to absorb that energy. If a person dies, the saved-up amount inside them is unleashed as an explosive amount. Emotions also generate more spiritual energy. Worry, anger, happiness. The stronger the emotion, the more energy is generated. Oh! Another nice thing about your domain is that you can link the power of all of them together, no matter the distance.” Geon explained.

“If I set one up in the city, I would have an insane amount… Are there any side effects?” He asked.

“Nope. Oh yeah, you can also convert non-living things into mana, which is equal to spiritual energy. Oh, but if you are going to establish it in a city, you will want to set the conversion rules first, then establish it.” Geon explained.

“Thanks, Geon. I will practice with it for the next couple of days.” Caeldaemos thanked her.

Caeldaemos went over to Liara’s cocoon and sat down next to it. “Don’t stay in there too long, Lia. We have to leave in a couple of days.” He got to practice creating Domains.
