Chapter Seventy-Eight

"Like a Boss!"

It was another of Cody's ridiculous phrases gleaned from old magazines. When Rafferty first heard it overhead, she was elated. it meant Cody was safe.

Until she looked up, and saw Cody descending at top speed, brandishing her hammer over her head.

Cody struck the ground, sending a wave of Blue in all directions. When properly executed, this move could knock a Class 2 God off its feet. The force blew Rafferty and Sheridan high into the air.

Rafferty twisted in the air, and managed to land without breaking any bones, but she was having trouble breathing.

"Ok, Mr. Fang Otter and Miss Tentacles… Face. I have had it up to here with your Wonderland. Most Wonderful Place There is, my juicy butt. You kidnapped my friends, turned Trevor into some sort of pig monster, and a wolf thing ate one my legs!" Cody yelled at the top of her lungs.

To Rafferty's eyes, both of Cody's legs seemed just fine.

"You have both of your legs, Cody," Sheridan said, peeling herself off the ground.

"I didn't fall for that last time, and I'm not falling it for this time, Squiggly Face. Time for some payback!" shouted Cody.

At least she can understand us.

They had already found Colin, Lena, and Oscar. Locating Cody was a big step, but clearly the Cody wrangling wasn't going to be simple.

The head of Cody's hammer crackled with Blue.

Without their weapons, they had zero chance against Cody in a fight.

We need to get this under control. Right now.

"Sheridan, say something happy," Rafferty whispered.

"Um… J Hall has the third highest strike efficiency in the Abbey. I mean, we should be first, but—" Sheridan attempted.

"What is strike efficiency?" Cody shouted.

"Well, that's probably why we're not—" Sheridan said.

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.

"How do you know what J Hall is? Are you reading my thoughts?" Cody was getting louder.

"No, I—" Sheridan started.

"Witchcraft!" Cody pointed her hammer at Sheridan.

Rafferty had an idea.

"No, Cody, we're nice animals. I promise. We don't like it here, either. And we don't like those other mean animals at all. Right, Tentacles?" Rafferty said, looking over at Sheridan.

"Right," Sheridan said carefully. "We just want to find our friends and go home. We thought you could help."

"You don't seem friendly," Cody said, looking straight at Sheridan.

"Oh, she is," said Rafferty. "You just have to get to know her first. It takes a while."

Sheridan grunted.

"Look, those mean animals are keeping us prisoners. But if you can help us find our friends, and we can help you find your friends, then we can all go home to our families. Won't you help us, please?" said Rafferty, trying to look helpless.

Cody tilted her head. Rafferty thought it looked like she wanted to believe them.

"Hey, if I was really up to no good," Rafferty started, putting a hand behind her back. "Would i have brought flowers?"

Rafferty dramatically brought her out from behind her back. Cody lit up. Rafferty gave the imaginary flowers a shake, and Cody's heart melted.

"They're so pretty. I'm sorry I doubted you, Fang Otter. This place is just the worst. I'll totally help you get home to your horrifying children. Follow me, I've got this," Cody said.

Cody spun around and marched further into the park, calling back over her shoulder.

"Come on, let's learn these fools."
