I still feel pain off and on when I need pain meds, so it is my special discharge day. Damon is the one who came to pick me up and that was fine since it's been a boring whole week in the hospital. So I'm excited to go home and maybe try helping Damon at the bakery while I recover. Please don't be bad on the first day there, I wait for Damon in the lobby in a wheelchair to not strain my wound. Then I see the shared car and I'm happy to get out of the chair to go to the car so that I can start my day at a bakery.
"So how was the food? I know it is a bit different than things you might like" Damon says.
"Don't worry, Shay got me some snacks to last longer" I say trying not to laugh.
Damon was friendly enough to hand me a sweet roll and it was what I needed. It helped me to feel relaxed from the nerves I had, so maybe today will be a challenge to not eat all the baked goods. So we got to the town square where the bakery is and not just that, there are other places you would see. We park and get into the bakery where Silva is rushing to complete orders from people. So Damon goes over to help out and I observe the flow of work here.
Then I try helping out the men here, so I get behind the counter and smile helping to fill out orders and giving baked goods to customers. Then someone came in after everything calmed down, Damon and Silva were in the back preparing more goods. So I was alone with this woman and she looked around like she was looking for someone, so I had to ask to help her.
"Hello ma'am, can I help you with something?" I say as nice as I can.
"Yes you may, I'm looking for my son," She says like I'm a bit of a servant or something.
"Who is your son?" I wonder for a moment if it might be Damon, he never said anything.
"My son is the owner of this bakery, so go fetch him," she says and I guess now I'm a dog it seems.
"Give me a moment ma'am," I say before going to the back and putting my hands on my hips.
"You have some explaining to do Damon, your mom is here," I say as If a scolding type.
He looked at me as if he was the one who got shot and hurried out of the back to greet his mother I guess. I go back to my post and hear the woman start talking about a woman waiting in her car. Boy, I think she doesn't know he isn't very straight, so I come over and he looks at his mother upset.
"You know I'm already married, so take her somewhere else" Strangely cold from the light-hearted man I met.
"That isn't a real marriage, you need a woman" she tries to explain it like she is stuck in an old world.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
"uh ma'am, are you from the Stone Age or something? the world has changed since then" I say kind of thinking I'm in a time vortex.
Damon tries to hold back a laugh and I continue "Hell gay is a bit of a casual thing nowadays".
"Well, I never," she says.
"Clearly you don't, If you going to be cruel about life and have nothing nice to say leave," I say not wanting her to scare people away.
"You'll be hearing from me again, so help me," she says and storms out with a jingle of the bell above the door.
Damon hugs me when she leaves and I pat his back to tell him he is squeezing a bit too hard. So he let go and smiled a bit sheepish remembering the wound, but he was gentle in letting me rest a bit. So I was sitting down by the window and taking a moment to relax from the thoughts I had. Was I too harsh towards that woman? I feel like it is a sore subject to relive. I shake it off and get up to get back to work, Shay comes in with her uniform on.
"Well if it isn't Shay the Conqueror, want a muffin?" I say.
"Well you seem to be more of that than me, you have conquered the mother of Damon," she says like I defeated a dragon.
"Oh wow, she really birthed him? Shouldn't she know gays can be happy?" I wink at Shay and walk over to kiss her.
Shay kissed me back and then a big smile grew on her lips, so I gave her a muffin. Lunch break for her, so it might be a nice treat and we sat down for a bit at the window seats. So we talked about the job I might get after I heal, but then I got nervous about thinking of her kind of job. I'm still learning the way I can use my powers, but it takes a lot out of a person. Shay holds my hand and I look at her, so I get back to talking to her.
"What if I'm not meant to stay here?" I say and Shay holds my hand tight.
"Don't talk like that, Silva cares a lot about you and I see that since you came here" she says.
"Sorry, I just feel like I never knew anything in my life" I look down dripping tears from my eyes on the table.
Shay sighs "All that matters is you have me now, I won't leave again".
I calm down again, but something seems to take over me and I look around. The bakery changes to a road and I look through something's eyes, but I notice who I see in front of me. It was Don and I wasn't sure how I was using my abilities to see this now. Then it disappeared and I was back at the bakery, so it's hard to focus now where Shay seems confused. I shake off everything that just took over me, so it didn't change Shay's expression honestly.
She looked more afraid than anything ever and was yelling for Silva, Damon also came. I tried to feel more myself, but it doesn't help to get rid of the feeling and then it goes away like a monster retreating. I start breathing again and I was holding onto Shay's hand so tight, but it didn't break anything.
"S-sorry, it's fine and I'm fine" I say not quite believing it.
I didn't feel fine, but I have to calm everyone before they think I'm crazy and that vision worried me. I continue unsure if it will worry anyone "I saw a vision of Don, what is going on?".
It seems only Silva knows what that means, I feel that is a bad thing and must be for only us. I'll have to talk to him alone at home, but I need a lot of answers about these abilities sooner rather than later.
