The grand hall of Varithfall Castle bustled with activity as courtiers and nobles gathered for King Malagos's audience. The air was thick with anticipation, whispers of gossip echoing through the opulent chamber.
A slender noble, Lady Mirabella, leaned in closer to her companion, Lord Cedric, and whispered, "Did you hear, Cedric? The king has picked poor Lord Reginald to establish a Holding in the south. They say it's a punishment, you know?"
Lord Cedric raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "Ah, Lady Mirabella, the court rumors never fail to captivate. But I fear we shall never know the truth."
Just as their hushed conversation reached its peak, the towering figure of King Malagos strode into the hall. He wore regal robes adorned with intricate golden embroidery, his presence commanding attention.
As the murmurs died down, the king's somber voice resonated through the hall, "My loyal subjects, we gather here today for a matter of great import. I have received reports of the notorious Shaman Remus, leader of the Felbeasts, being spotted in the town of Balmur, spreading his whispers."
A hush fell over the court as the king's gaze swept across the room. "Fear not, for we shall not let this threat go unaddressed. To ensure the safety of our kingdom and secure the valuable resources, I hereby appoint Lord Reginald to establish a Holding in the forests south of Balmur."
Gasps of surprise rippled through the crowd, whispers of speculation spreading like wildfire. Lady Mirabella leaned closer to Lord Cedric once again, their voices barely audible amidst the cacophony of the court. "Did you hear that, Cedric? The rumors were true. Our king aims to secure a Mana Well, and he must believe that the rebels pose a significant threat."
Lord Cedric's eyes gleamed with curiosity as he glanced toward the king, but quickly averted his gaze. "Indeed, my lady. It seems that whispers of Shaman Remus and the rebels were not mere idle talk."
As the courtiers buzzed with excitement and anticipation, King Malagos raised his hand, silencing the room once more. "Let it be known that this mission is not only a duty, but also an honor. Lord Reginald, your success in securing the Mana Well will bring great glory to your name and reward to your loyal efforts."
Lord Reginald, a sturdy man with a stern expression, stepped forward and bowed deeply. "Thank you, Your Majesty. I shall defend our kingdom and ensure that the Mana Well remains under our control."
With a final nod, King Malagos dismissed the court, each noble and courtier drifting back into their own conversations and murmurs. The anticipation hung in the air as the courtiers speculated about the true intentions behind this royal decree.

King Malagos strode with purpose to his war room, a regal air surrounding him as he settled behind his sturdy oak desk. He gestured for Lord Reginald to take a seat across from him. The room was adorned with maps of the surrounding lands, strategic charts, and various military reports, but the most prominent map was of the southern region of the kingdom. With a wide circle surrounding the main city of Balmur, and a small blue outline for the forests to the south.
Lord Reginald, a man of distinguished stature and unwavering loyalty, inclined his head in respect as he greeted King Malagos. "Your Majesty, it is an honor to be chosen for this mission. I am ready to serve."
The king's gaze narrowed, his piercing eyes studying Lord Reginald's composed countenance. "I have chosen you for a reason, Lord Reginald. This task will require strength, determination, and loyalty. Can I trust you to deliver?"
Lord Reginald straightened his posture, his voice resolute. "You have my word, Your Majesty. I shall devote myself entirely to this mission and ensure its success."
King Malagos leaned forward, his voice low and controlled. "Tell me, Lord Reginald, what is your strategy for establishing this Holding in the southern forests? How do you plan to 'clean' up the rebels and harness the power of the Mana Well?"
Lord Reginald's expression turned solemn as he began outlining the details of his plan. "Your Majesty, the rebels will be dealt with swiftly and effectively. I shall bring in non-human laborers and task them with constructing fortifications and clearing the area. They will be put to work, their abilities used for the benefit of the kingdom since they are relatively disposable. This should draw out the rebels to free them, though I will likely have to perform a few public tortures to get them angry enough."
A flicker of concern crossed the king's face, but he hid it well. "Do not forget, Lord Reginald, that these non-humans are invaluable for stabilizing the Mana Well. Don't be too quick to remove them before that has been achieved."
Lord Reginald bowed his head, acknowledging the king's advice. "I understand, Your Majesty. I shall ensure that they serve the best the filth are able."
King Malagos leaned back in his chair, surveying Lord Reginald with a mixture of satisfaction and expectation. "Good, I expect a message each moon to update the usual things. Important information or developments should be sent immediately, and you will expect a swift response."
Lord Reginald rose from his seat, his back straight and his resolve unwavering. "I shall not disappoint you, Your Majesty. I pledge that within three moons the rebels will be dead, the kingdom shall grow, and the Mana Well will be in your hands. With your blessings, I shall depart at once."
The king nodded, his voice filled with a hint of pride. "Go forth, Lord Reginald, and may your endeavors be fruitful. I have every confidence that you will succeed."
Lord Reginald bowed once more before exiting the war room, his mind already absorbed in the upcoming challenges. As he left, King Malagos's gaze lingered on the map spread before him, his thoughts drifting to the rebels and the elusive Shaman Remus. The king knew that Lord Reginald's success would not only secure the Mana Well but also strike a blow to those who dared challenge his reign. With the closing of the door, the King drove his dagger into the center of the blue ring.
"So easy..." He muttered.
