Chapter 3: The Third Floor of the castle.
1st person POV.
After having finished appraising the only door out of here. I immediately started to search the room. First I checked the drawers of a luxurious dresser with a mirror and I noticed that Jane was busy searching the luxury wardrobe.
As I clumsily pulled out the first drawer on the left side using my paws, I noticed that it was filled with weird slabs of white stone shaped like small tablets. Seeing them I contemplated using my Identify skill on them for a few seconds to do it before deciding to do it. After all, in my current situation, any and all information could prove useful. As I activated my skill three new windows opened up in front of me
“Meow… Meow meooow meow ” (Phew… looks like the pile of these white tablets all count as one target or else I would have lost more mana, I should be more cautious next time as I had forgotten about the target mechanism of the Identify skill. )

“Meow… Meow meow ” (Hmm… I think I will be taking those healing runes though I don't know about the others so I should Jane about them. )
“Meow! ” (Hey Jane!)
As I finished meowing to get her attention, I immediately gestured toward her to come to my location as soon as I saw her looking my way. As she began to come to my location near the dresser, she meowed at me in annoyance for a second before meowing again in surprise.
“Meow… meow ” (What is it… why did you call me I was busy searching the wardrobe you know. )
“Meow! Meow meow ” (Wait a sec! Is that what I think it is, yeah those must be runes, awesome job finding them Daniel. )
Hearing her get so excited about them I become even more convinced that they must be some useful stuff, especially in that healing one because it's always good to have a way to heal. As she jumps into the drawer, I meow at her.
“Meow? Meow ” (Hey Jane do you know what these runes are? Also, why are you so excited about them, I want to know. )
“Meow! Meow meow ” (Of course! I know after all I have seen runes before and used them as well and even if these are lesser runes, runes are still useful items to have.)
Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.
“Meow ” (Also these specific runes being kept in a bedroom's dresser make me suspect that these are here for skincare and help in drying hair. )
Wait a sec! What, so the oh-so-useful runes are just useful as skin care products? Now I am starting to doubt their usefulness. And I couldn't help but meow at her again in an annoyed mood.
“Meow… meow meow ” (Jane please… don't tell me you are so excited about them because you want to use them for skincare and makeup as a CAT. )
“meow?! Meow meow” (What?! Of course not, I am excited about the fact that they are useful to us right now as more than just skincare products as we are both low-level at the moment. )
“Meow, meow meow ” (Phew, alright then you organize the runes while I check the other drawers. )
As I once again start to clumsily pull open the first drawer on the right side using my paws, I hear a very faint meow escape Jane's mouth which I barely hear due to my cat ears.
“meow… ” (Well my excitement is mostly for other purposes and definitely not for skincare mhm, yup… )
Haa seriously man she is so fucking obvious that it's almost comical watching her convince herself that she is not excited about them because of the skincare effects. Girls really are very strange creatures indeed, how the hell can they still worry about their skin and makeup in this kind of situation is truly beyond me.
After shaking my head one final time in resignation, I return to focusing on opening the drawer and it looks like my high luck stat finally showed its value as I used my Identify skill on the sole object within this drawer which was a copper key embedded with a very small shining stone.

“Meow! ” (Yes, I hit the Jackpot! )
“Meow! Meow meow ” (Hey, Jane! Look I found the master key for the third floor of the castle which I presume we are on right now. )
Hearing my loud and happy meowing, Jane also started to purr and meow at me.
“Purr, meow meow ” (Nice well done, Daniel now we can get out of this room and escape that quest failure timer and also get some rewards. )
As she meowed at me, I also noticed that she had torn the bed sheet from the king-sized bed and had now tied that to her back and is using it as a satchel to carry as many runes as possible.
“Meow! Meow ” (Alright let's go! See what the third floor is like. )
As both I and Jane came to the only door out of the room, I bit the key with my mouth and then jumped to reach the keyhole. Even though I succeeded and the key also seemed to act on its to open the door once it got near enough, I still couldn't but make a sour face due to the coppery aftertaste remaining in my mouth after that stunt. The worst part was how Jane seemed to try and stop her laughing as she looked at my face.
Anyways as the door opened and the key magically floated back to me, I ignored Jane's barely-held-back laughter and instead stepped out of the door. The scenery that awaited me outside made me question for a second whether we are truly inside a palace's third floor or a jungle as a vast and green jungle stretched as far as the eye can see and the only thing separating the door to our former room is a small clearing devoid of any signs of life and paved with ornate marble flooring.
As my mouth remained wide open at the beautiful scenery before my eyes, I noticed that Jane didn't seem as shocked as I was and instead had a sad look in her eyes for some reason. Seeing that sad look in her eyes I couldn't help but feel slightly sad as well, though before I sank into deeper sadness, I was awoken wide awake by a barrage of new notifications. But the most prominent of them all was a welcome notification which wasn't very welcoming due to its text being a blood-red color, unlike the other screens.
