Chapter #22 Blue moon #10

(Krist Stainer's point of view)

An aquatic species that primarily hunts during the blue moon. The carvings appeared extraordinary. "Hey Molly, do you see what I'm seeing?" I inquired.

"I'm afraid so, I already took some notes of what you just discovered and I'm going to share with the group. But you should know that Miss Ruby found the two people you were talking about. A boy named Zero and Evergreen. But I believe that Evergreen isn't going to be with us. We will be waiting at the warehouse by the harbour." Said Molly.

So far, the operation appears to be a success. Although we may have lost a potential ally, we have gained another whose potential seems to be significantly greater.

"Alright, with the boss and the population eliminated, the Gate ought to be sealing shortly. Next, we must compile a comprehensive report detailing the casualties, particularly in the hospital. I have a theory that these creatures might not have come here to attack us, but for reasons far more unsettling," I said, continuing my scrutiny of the wall carvings.

Were they doing some kind of ritual or something? I should leave before the five-minute timer runs out.

(Three minutes later)

Took me a while to find my way back. I was taken back by the environment before I burnt it to the ground.

It was so lively.

The villagers' way of life, their agricultural practices, and the compassion they exhibited were truly fascinating. Carroll would be proud.

Upon returning to my original domain, it was rejuvenating to witness the bright orange sun and the city, despite its slight damage.

I guess I have to go to the harbour then.

Should Zero be present at the harbour, it's primarily important for him to feel at ease. Establishing a mentorship dynamic and introducing him to basic level Gates, I'm convinced, we will have one hell of a teammate.

If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

He idolizes hunters and desires to become one, so I see no reason for him to decline my offer.

Considering the commotion on the streets, it's unlikely anyone noticed me airborne. To ensure this, I ascended to a height where it was impossible to be seen.

I should really consider getting a car to make myself see more normal.

Upon my arrival at the warehouse, everyone was already present. Zero was blindfolded and bound by his arms and legs to a wooden chair, Ruby was perched on a crate alongside Molly, and Peter appeared to be passed out in the corner.

Ruby was the first to notice me and gestured towards Zero. It seems she wants me to talk to him.

I nodded at her before making my way to him.

His breaths were silent yet heavy, maintaining his composure. "It's been a while, hasn't it, Zero?" I spoke

Zero lifted his head and asked, "Is that you, Krist?"

"In the flesh, apologies for not being there to assist. I was rather preoccupied," I said.

He showed a gentle smile. "You did ask your friends to come help me. Without them, I surely would have been in grave danger," he remarked.

I took off his blindfold so that we could make eye contact for the question I needed to ask him, "Do you still want to be a hunter?" I said as I removed my mask.

Zero surveyed the room, taking in everyone's presence, then turned back to me. "I can't deny that it was both terrifying and exciting at the same time. Even though I wasn't doing much, I still wish I could have helped out there and proven myself. So yes, I do want to be a hunter, but I'm afraid I'll only slow everyone down. However, if you give me a few weeks to train on my own—" He was cut off as I interrupted him before he could finish.

"At the very least, it will take three years to reach the level of everyone in this room. 'Gifts' is a complex system that we humans have yet to fully comprehend. We've been merely utilizing the knowledge we've accumulated over the years. So, if you attempt to train yourself without a mentor, then good luck. However, I can assist in accelerating your progress." A shadow of sadness crossed his face momentarily, but it was soon replaced by a spark of hope.

"We need someone to help us with something. Let's just say it's a top-secret operation. The GEA will be opening a task force meant to take down Rejected hunters or anyone who isn't associated with them. Including me and my friends over here. What's the best way of dealing with them is by sending someone to work for them and tell us anything worthwhile. So, we can dismantle their operation," I clarified.

With a determined look on his face, Zero declared, "I don't care what it is. I owe you guys my life, and if there's a chance that I can become a hunter trained by you, then sure, I'll help you out."

My my, I'm grateful that I found you instead of Evergreen.
