Chapter 8: Skeleton Dragon

Chapter 8: Skeleton Dragon

Scotch threw the bone at Michael who was threatening to slice him in half. The holy aura radiating from the statue’s body caused the bone to reduce to ashes. Luckily, the effect had already been activated as multiple skeletons and corpses started to rise from the ground.

Without waiting for the statue to catch a break, Blake activated Berserk!

The bodies and bones of the undead started to grow thicker and stronger as they let out terrifying roars. The first horde of the undead attacked Michael while the rest of the horde targeted Felix. If they could force Felix into a disadvantageous position then it would make it harder for the statue to fight back, as he would have to be defending his master while trying to fight off the horde of undead.

Not only that, because they were strengthened by Berserk, they could last for a much longer time. Michael, seeing what was happening. Was immediately enraged, if it let those undead get close to his master then it would simply be a disgrace to his ability and strength. Performing a slash across the undead around him and then stabbing his sword to the ground, he shouted.

“Divine Division!”

Multiple holy sword slashes flew to the horde of undead that were around him. These sword slashes attacked the undead while spreading to nearby undead like a virus. Divine Divide was a new ability Michael had learned when he fused with the sword.

It sent out a ring of sword slashes to nearby enemies. Those who are killed by the sword slash spread it to nearby enemies. If an enemy survived the sword slashes, then it wouldn’t spread. This was a move that was good for clearing cannon fodders but was weak against strong enemies.

The horde of undead didn’t even have a chance to let out a scream before they were reduced to ashes. The sword slashes kept spreading, not sparing even those who were still rising underground.

After a few seconds had passed, all the horde of undead were completely purified. Blake seeing the situation, was mortified. This was the first time he had seen his horde of undead being completely cleared with no resistance at all. He thought that he was strong enough to measure up against those young prodigies who were born with a golden spoon, but reality proved him wrong.

His mood was dark and his thoughts were in a mess, completely forgetting about the dire situation at hand.

This was a wrong assumption for Blake. He was strong and he worked hard, it's just that he met a freak like Felix, who completely shattered his pride.

Unable to think properly, his thoughts were only brought back when a loud bark snapped him back to reality. Scotch was grinding his teeth as he stared at the statue menacingly. It could sense its master’s mood. All those negative emotions were fueling its anger, it wanted to prove itself and prove to the world that its master was the best.

So with a last-ditch effort, it let out a loud howl. Completely different from the barks of a normal dog. This time, it sounded more like a wolf’s howl. While Felix was wondering what the dog was trying to do, the ground shook beneath him. It felt as if an earthquake was ravaging the area.

Something was coming from the ground! And this something was huge and caused a heavy sense of dread to weigh on Felix and Michael.

Scotch soon fell to the ground, as if summoning this thing had drained all its strength. It panted heavily while looking at its master who was hurriedly running towards it.

‘So tired… Need to sleep…’

These were the last thoughts before it completely went to sleep. It hadn’t slept in a long time since it became an undead. This was its first time. Blake held the sleeping dog in its arms while tightly guarding it. He didn’t want to give up yet, not after feeling the shaking of the earth beneath him.

Whatever Scotch summoned, was definitely strong.

While Scotch lay in his hands, it was undergoing a change, a change that everyone in the world knew about. Evolution! It was undergoing an evolution, after using all its strength to awaken a monster.

More fur grew on its body, as its originally bony tail had changed into a bushy tail. Not only that, it was growing larger and larger. When the evolution was done, Scotch had grown from 1.5 meters to 3 meters, with an unchanged width. But the green and brown fur was shining with a healthy color, as it covered every part of its body now, except for the eyes. The eye sockets were still empty with green flames still burning inside.

It had evolved from a Grave Digging Hound to a Tomb Raising Hound!

“Get that kid, you must get that kid.”

Multiple calls ranged through the luxurious hallway. All the attendees were receiving calls from their superiors, telling them that they had to recruit Blake. A Tomb Raising Hound was rare and powerful, if they could rope in a young talent like Blake, then they could undoubtedly benefit from it.

While everyone was making hectic calls, Felix’s grandfather and his friend were paying attention to the shaking earth. They were curious about what was going to appear.

It didn’t take long for all noises to be silenced. On the screen, they saw a gigantic bone claw smash open the earth. Followed by a triangular head with two long horns that pierced through the sky.

The room was dead silent as a pair of bony wings soon made its appearance known. The wings eclipsed the sky as a long snake-like neck followed the triangular head. It was a dragon. Not only that, it was a pure-blooded dragon looking at the body of the dragon. It had four legs with intimidating claws, a triangular skull, a pair of bony wings, and a long tail.

“I'm afraid even your grandson’s monster can’t handle that creature.”

The old man who accompanied Felix’s grandfather casually commentated. This time Felix’s grandfather didn’t bother to bicker with the old man as they watched in dead silence.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

Seeing the huge figure in front of him, Felix wanted to complain. Ok, I bullied you, but was it really necessary to call in a dragon?! What the hell happened to a fair fight?

Even Blake was surprised. He knew it was gonna be a strong monster, but what the hell! This breached the term strong already, this was an invincible monster.

The dragon let out a majestic roar that resounded through the entire forest. Even those who weren’t near Felix and Blake heard its roar. The roar caused a Monster Wave, which was just a strong tide of multiple monsters gathering together. The Monster Wave desperately charged out of the forest, causing multiple contestants to be caught in the crossfire.

Before they could get fatally injured they were luckily teleported out.

Just one roar caused such devastation. One could imagine the true strength of the dragon. The dragon stared at Felix without attacking him at all. What was different about the dragon and regular undead was that the fire burning inside its body was a purple flame. Not only that the flame was like a nervous system, extending from the head to every part of the body.

“How long has it been since I’ve died human?”

The dragon questioned in an ancient tone, its voice ringing loudly, in Blake and Felix’s soul. Felix immediately answered, “It’s the year 2036 on the Imperial Calendar, lord.”

He was doing everything he could, to not get a whooping from the dragon, he did not doubt that the dragon could destroy him and Michael, even if Michael did counter the undead attribute.

“Hmm, what is the Imperial Calendar?”

“It's the calendar that was unanimously approved of by all four continents, my lord.”

“The four continents are not at war?”

“No, the war had ceased to exist, 5000 years ago. While communication and treaties between the four continents started 2000 years ago.”

“So, I’ve been dead for more than 5000 years?”

“It seems that way, lord.”

Before Felix could keep answering the dragon’s question, a loud voice interrupted him.

“Dragon, since I resurrected you, you have to beat that human in front of you.”

Blake loudly commanded, while pointing his finger at the skeleton dragon. The dragon just stared at him with a mocking gaze.

“Who said you could command me?”

With that, its tail horrifyingly swept at Blake whose face was beyond pale. He immediately regretted shouting at the dragon. He had always been able to command the undead that they summoned. Why was this dragon so different from the rest?

Before he could figure it out, he was teleported before the tail turned him into a fine mist of red.

The tail continued to sweep out as trees were broken and their roots were uprooted. Just one sweep of its tail cleared out a large chunk of the forest behind it!

As if indifferent to the destruction, the dragon continued to question.

“Who is the Dragon Lord of this era?”

“I’m sorry, but I don’t know. All I know is that there is a guardian of the western continent that is a dragon.”

“What is a guardian?”

“Guardians, are the strongest monsters of each continent, except for the Eastern Continent, which has a human guardian. They represent the apex of strength, while also defending each continent from the other continents.”

“What do you mean by human guardian?”

“I don’t know the whole details, but in the Eastern Continent, a human was born with a special talent that could allow him to rival other guardians in pure strength alone. That’s the only information I know of though.”

“Haha, it’s surprising that such a weak race like you humans could become so strong.”

Felix was like the best servant as he answered all the dragon’s questions truthfully. He had a plan that greedily formed in his mind. He wanted to contract the dragon! It was an unrealistic idea, but it was an opportunity that he couldn’t pass up!

So he drew an eyeball on the ground while drawing an X across the eyeball.

‘Hopefully, that old man got the message.’

Ignoring his thoughts, he then asked the dragon a question.

“Dragon will you form a contract with me?”

“Julius cut off the screens and stop everyone from being able to see the video.”

“Why?”

“Because if you don’t, the government will have a problem to deal with.”

Hearing the threat from Max, Julius could only sigh, as he cut off connections. Stopping everyone from seeing what would happen between Felix and the dragon.

Left on a cliffhanger, everybody inside the hall was outraged. Including the people online.

“Damn it, I wanted to know if the dragon will kill him after asking that question.”

“Why did you cut it off?”

“Boo!”

Texts of dissatisfied messages were sent across the broadcast, while the people inside the hall were also complaining about it. The people online were lucky as the people inside the hall soon came to a stop.

As a horrifying pressure weighed on all of them.

Looking at who was emitting such pressure, they finally identified the figure. It was Felix’s grandfather, Max. Who stared at them all with cold eyes. As he coldly spatted out a word.

“Silence.”

The dragon laughed as he questioned.

“Why would I form a contract with you human?”

Expecting that, Felix answered back.

“Because I can bring you back to life dragon. Don’t you hate being an undead?”

“Of course, I hate being an undead, but how can you bring me back to life human? As far as I can tell no one can reverse life and death. Especially not from a weak human like you.”

“What if I told you, my talent can bring you back to life?”

“Ohh, and how does your talent work?”

The dragon asked intriguingly. It was very tempted by the offer if it was true. It hated being an undead, it couldn’t sense, feel, or taste anything. What is the point of being alive if you’re deprived of all your senses? At that point, it’d rather be dead.

Especially, when he a noble dragon had to create a harem of the finest dragons!

“I can fuse two monsters that are under my contract together. So if I can find a perfect monster for you to fuse with, you can be brought back to life, of course, the problem is finding the perfect monster for you.”

Hearing its statement the dragon wondered whether to accept the proposal or not. While staring at the eyes of the human in front of him. Looking at his eyes, it was probably true. He wasn’t lying to him.

“That’s an interesting talent human, I accept.”

Before Felix could let out a sigh of relief. He heard a string of words that dampened his mood.

“But you only have a time limit of one year. If you can’t find the perfect monster for me to fuse with, then the contract will naturally break between you and me. Also, under that year, I will not fight for you. Unless it's the monster that you think will be a perfect fusion for me.”

Hearing the conditions he couldn’t help but frown, they were rough but still manageable. So he accepted it.

“Ok, I accept your conditions dragon.”

With that, Felix sent a blue thread towards the dragon. What was strange about the thread was that printed on the thread, were the conditions that the dragon listed. Seeing that, he wasn’t trying to fool him, the dragon allowed the thread to touch his heart.

With that, Felix and the skeleton dragon formed a one-year contract together!
