Digging his ears with his pinky finger, Felix just yawned while the skeleton let out a bawl of curses. It seemed to know that its play time was over and would soon be sent to the time-out corner (the pocket space).
With one last curse, the roars of the skeleton disappeared as sanity reappeared in Katsuro’s eyes. His originally white eyes now had his pupils back. With his conscious back, he put the skeleton back into the pocket space.
Felix was also curious, how did Katsuro stay inside the skeleton’s ribs without being burnt alive?
As far as he could tell, those were not special effects flames. The ants that were attacking the skeleton looked more like slime at this point. Did one of his monsters give him a special ability that could resist the flames or did the skeleton not intentionally burn his master?
Well that all didn’t matter anymore as Katsuro stared at the figure flying in the air. His eyes were locked onto Felix’s figure with unblinking intensity, almost threatening to bore a hole into his figure.
“I will remember you, as this is the first time I’ve been so heavily embarrassed.”
“I give up.”
With the friendly(?) parting words from Katsuro, he graciously accepted his defeat. Not blaming luck or anything. In his mindset, a victory is a victory, no matter how you manage to win, all that matters is the result. If you blamed luck and fate, then you were simply worse than cow dung.
With that, his figure turned into light particles as he was soon teleported from the desolated landscape.
“That’s one interesting way to thank a person,” Felix mumbled under his breath.
Although he couldn’t stand the mentality of a serious person like Katsuro. He could naturally pick up on the cues. Although it sounded like he was cursing him, in reality, he acknowledged his strength and appreciation for beating that skeleton. So he gracefully accepted his defeat.
Taking his monsters back. Felix went to find a place to sleep. Thankfully this was the last day of the exam. If he had to sleep on sticks and dirt any longer, one could only wonder how long his sanity would last. Not to mention he smelled like shit!
The smell coming from him was no joke. Seven days without showering put a toll on Felix’s hygiene.
…
The image of Felix’s figure beating Katsuro was being projected by a screen from a cafe. A pair was looking at Felix’s figure with intrigue. It was a man and a woman. Both were staring at Felix’s figure, more importantly, his monsters; the fleshy and crimson ants.
The woman casually commentated.
“Do you think that monster has anything to do with the lord?”
The man replied in a deadpan tone, “Even if it does, it doesn’t matter. Because, he’ll either come crawling towards us, or he would have no relationships with us. There’s no need to antagonize someone from the Goldenfield family.”
“True. Facing the suppressions from the guardians and the constant surveillance from the government’s dog. Our hands are pretty much in a bind.”
“Hmph, the situation won’t last for long. The Arch Priest is almost ready to perform the sacrifice. Soon the turtles that is the Four Continents, won’t be able to stay hidden in their shell for much longer.”
As if the long speech had exhausted his throat. He took a sip out of his drink. What did a big and burly man like him like to drink? Well of course it was ice-cold Coca-Cola from his curly straw. How else was one supposed to enjoy such a beverage if not a curly straw?
The woman, seeing her partner drinking his coke in delight. Couldn’t help but chuckle. His figure seriously couldn’t match his actions right now.
A waitress soon came to their table, asking if they were done. They had been sitting on this table for such a long time, not only that. Only one of them ordered a drink, and it was just a Coke. She didn’t want to be rude, but there were other customers too. And she couldn’t hold them up, just because because a couple was using their cafe to watch the national exam.
“Yes, thank you for your services.” The burly man politely replied.
“By the way, are you interested in being part of something larger? Something far greater than this life?”
The waiter was confused by the burly man’s questions. But her professionalism held strong, although her face was confused for a second, it soon became clear. As she had dealt with countless lunatics and crazy people before. As a person working in the service industry, how could there not be some people who weren’t normal?
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
Luckily this guy was just some missionary trying to promote his religion. The last time she dealt with a crazy person, he was rolling around the floor making a mess of the cafe.
So she professionally rejected the man’s offer.
“Sorry, I devoutly follow Illumar, The Meaning of Light. But, I’m sure others would be interested in your religion.”
She felt as if there was nothing wrong with her reply. She politely rejected, while offering a good reason, and pointed a direction for him. So why? Why was he staring at her with such malicious and murderous intent? Not only that, the more she observed him. The more disturbed she became.
His skin color was pale white, almost close to that of a corpse. Not only that, there was a giant scar around his neck. The scar left the shape of a barbed wire, around his neck. What kind of wound could leave such a mark? Not only that, how could a human survive such damage?
Taking her eyes off the man’s neck, she observed his partner. It was a beautiful woman with blonde curly hair, that flowed to her back. She had the looks of a supermodel, but she also noticed the same thing about her. She also had the same scar on her neck and that pale white skin, just like her partner.
‘Is this a requirement for their weird cult?’
Before she could think much longer, her arm was forcibly grabbed by that man. Who stared at him with his deep dark eyes, that could swallow her figure whole.
She screamed in pain, it felt like her arm was going to break. “Let go!”
The scream attracted the attention of the other customers, who also noticed the weird situation. The waitress’s right arm was being tightly held on by a burly figure. She desperately tried to free her arm, to no avail.
“Somebody help me!”
Ignoring the waiter’s plead. The blonde woman with the scar around her neck asked the man. “Is it such a good idea to cause a scene right now?”
She was greeted by a grunt from the burly man.
“It doesn’t matter. I’m sure those dogs already know that we’re here anyway. Let’s just kill all these heretics.”
With that. The woman’s arm was torn off. A fountain of blood was spraying from her torn-off arm as she screamed in agony and pain. The other customers noticing the situation, either tried to flee in a panic or help her out.
Those who tried to reach for the door. Found that were were blood tendrils covering the door. But, when they looked around. It wasn’t just the door! As the entire cafe shop was being invaded by some sort of bloody tendrils. These tendrils had eyes, and whenever someone touched them. They would fiercely absorb the blood from the person, learning the hard way from a few other customers who touched them.
“Damn it! What do you think you’re doing?”
“Don’t you know that you’ll be killed?”
“The police won’t let you off with this.”
The customers screamed and cursed at the duo in fear and horror. The waitress who was originally quite good-looking, looked nothing but a scarred figure. Her skin had been flayed with her eyes were so sunken, that all that one could see was a deep dark abyss.
This fleshy, skinless figure, was having a seizure on the floor. As her body underwent a mutation. Countless tendrils grew from her body and other organs. There was even a heart that stuck out of her chest.
“Shame, she couldn’t accept the blessing from the lord.” The man muttered, not deeply surprised.
The bloodied figure was now, nothing but a monster with no rationalization. It screamed in agony while staring at the other customers who were still alive. Those who met her stare, shivered, that thing was originally a human. But now, it looked more like an abomination with countless maws on its body, and extra limbs that were sticking out of it.
“The only way, you’re escaping here alive, is if you pass the blessing from the lord.” The man stated calmly, breaking the uncomfortable silence.
“Screw that! Just kill him!”
With their lives being put on the line, some of the customers who were Monster Tamers erupted with potential that could only be shown, when put in a desperate situation.
There were countless strange figures, a troll, a griffin, an oversized praying mantis, some elemental monsters, and even some golems. It was truly a desperate lineup that was mix-matched. As if stimulated by the sight of new monsters. The bloody tendrils covered the walls and attacked them.
The monsters under the siege of the bloody tendrils found them hard to break and destroy. You could burn them, but the part that wasn’t burnt would shake off the ashes and grow a new part. It was truly tedious. Not only that, the monsters attacked by the tendrils found that they were like leeches. Desperately trying to suck out their blood and infect them. And if they didn’t have blood? Then they would simply break them apart with the gigantic maws that opened on the tendril. They were a fleshy abomination.
“Damn it, we’ll all die, if we keep getting sieged like this. Let’s kill those couples!”
Agreeing with him. The rest of the Monster Tamers, had some monsters distract and protect them from the bloody tendrils, while the rest of the monsters charged at the two who were watching them as if it was a show.
With the sacrifices from a few monsters, caused by some bloody tendrils and the newly transformed waitress. When they reached the pair, they found that there was still no fear in their eyes. Even when they were under the attack of countless monsters.
Their body was torn apart!
But to their shock and horror, a voice interrupted their excitement.
“Okay, playtime is over.”
The two desecrated bodies are seemingly still alive. Regenerated their torn figure. Their arm grew back in place, their head grew back in place, and their damaged organs healed perfectly. In short, they had a tenacious life!
With the declaration from the burly figure. A tidal wave of blood overwhelmed, the monsters and humans that were still alive. The cafe shop was painted with nothing but blood. And from the outside, the battles and noises didn’t leak one bit.
It was a few minutes later when the pair walked out of the cafe, which was now sparkingly clean. Not one bit shows any damage from a fight at all. As for the blood? What blood? There was no blood at all!
“A shame. None of them could realize the gift that they had been born with. Taking for granted their life, not being able to pass the test of the lord.”
The burly man sadly stated, as if deeply saddened by how the world had become and as if he was the figure trying to bring salvation. The woman just chuckled as they walked away from the now quiet cafe.
…
Felix was staring at his grandfather in anger. Who was introducing him to his friend, the principal of The University of Western Continent’s Military.
“You’re being enrolled in the spring semester. So enjoy the few days you have left, because you’re going back to school life.”
