Item creation

It was getting late so James finished off the details with the admin and logged off for the night. James stood from his chair and with a few cautious steps told his bodyguard he could go to bed. James went to bed and woke up about 10 in the morning. A quick shower and some comfortable clothes, then James was once again sitting in his chair ready to login to Yggdrasil.

He had a thought, it was Saturday, so he called Reo. The phone only rang once, “Hi James, how are you?” He could hear the anxiousness in her voice. “I’m fine, I was told to take some time off, because I was working so hard.” “Really? You must be very good at your job they never do that for me.” “I guess I’m a special case. Anyway, I was curious do you have any plans for tonight?” There was several seconds of silence, “Are you… asking me out?”

James laughed a little and smiled, “I’m sorry a beautiful women such as you must surely have many men clambering over each other for that opportunity.” Reo laughed, right after that James heard her hand clamping itself over her mouth. A very saddened voice came back to him, “Did I do that out loud?” “Yes, but I thought it was cute. It’s nice to give people surprises like that.” He could hear the smile on her face, “I’m free tonight, if your serious.” “I am, you can pick out the place. I will pick you up about say 8?” “It’s perfect, I have the perfect place in mind. I guess I will see you at 8.” “See you at 8.”

James hung up with a smile on his face. He called one of his guys, bodyguards, over and asked them to tell him when it was 7. James could see the smile on the man’s face as he walked away. As he plugged into the console, he heard a triumphant cheer followed by three cries of despair. “It would seem they were betting on when me and Reo would have a date or something like that.”

James’ smile grew even wider, funny guys, they reminded him of his old friends. They always used to do things like this. James shook himself from his memories and pulled up Yggdrasil. He immediately noticed a second button that had not been there the day before. James traced his fingers over it. “Design room.” So, James clicked it.

He was immediately greeted by a large white room. A room he was very familiar with it was one of the rooms used when Admins needed to test things. He looked down to see he was his game avatar here. A nice touch from the head Admin.

Not a minute after he had arrived a dozen individuals had popped into existence nearby in the room. One of these individuals stepped forward, his avatar was that of tall slender man with white skin, no face, and a suit. “Holy Shit! Its Slender Man!” James took a step back, honestly a little frightened of the character. It did not help when a small line of a mouth appeared, and the voice of Takeda came from it.

“Hey James, I didn’t know you had heard of Slender Man.” James made a mental note to kill anyone who appeared as Slender Man period. “Yeah, I have, so your one of the guys who will be observing my item creation today?” “Yep I’m here to give you the blueprint for the blueprint item you requested. I am also here as your friend, to personally say, Holy Shit man! What have you gotten yourself into?” James could not help but chuckle at his friend’s outburst. “Let’s talk about that after.” “Fine.”

James clapped his hands together ready to begin his work on the first project. His helm of examination. He waved his hand and a little over a dozen chairs appeared. Most did not sit, but a few did.

James remembered a detail he had not considered, “Can I make it of almost any material I want?” Takeda spoke up, “As far as we know, yes, but no using stuff like Caloric stone.” James nodded in understanding. So, he summoned a helm made of celestial uranium. Takeda bobbed up and down as if to say, well that was smart.

He used some editing tools and quickly added a visor that served as both eye protection and a sort of mini Hud that would display the information for items he had scanned with it. He gave it the power to see items for what they truly were, allowing him to access all their information. He gave it the ability to, with a little mana input, produce high quality blueprints for any item it had scanned. That would be useful later. The final product was great but then one of the observers stepped up. Their avatar was that of a little angel girl.

The angel raised her hand up palm out, as if expecting the item, “You’re the one who has to implement the limits of the item.” There was no response, James reluctantly handed over the helm. She fiddled with it for a few minutes before handing it back to him. As james examined her work she watched him very carefully. It seemed she had set the range for the item to only about five feet. Not far but it would suffice. Then James had a great idea.

“Hey, can I run something by you guys?” Takeda looked around to the others some nodded others remained still, the little angel starring back at him. “Let us hear it.” “Since I know how Caloric stone is made, would you allow me to add a feature to the helm. So that say, if it is in a pile of celestial uranium that undergoes transformation into Caloric stone, then it will be absorbed by the helm which will they become made of Caloric stone.”

The little angel walked over to the others and they began a little conversation muttering to one another. They looked like a group of little kids, on the playground. A minute later the angel girl turned to him. “NO.” The person next to her jabbed her with his elbow. She looked not to happily at him. The blue kobold next to her spoke, “We have discussed it and had a vote. She lost, so you can do it.” “Ok, thanks.” A few minutes later it was done. The angel stepped forward to take the item, only for the kobold to teleport in and grab it.

They had an adorable stare down, which the kobold won. He checked over James’ work and tweaking this and that. The kobold looked up from his work, “are you satisfied with the item as it is.” He said while handing the helm back to him. So, James placed it on his head and summoned the horn of Fenrir. There was a moment where it looked that they would stop him, but it quickly passed. He used the helm’s [Scan] ability.

He was immediately meet with an error, he mentioned it to the observers. When the kobold asked for the item back, he sat cross legged on the floor and pulled up the item’s settings. “Let’s work together.” The kobold did not argue, and simply stepped beside him to help find the cause. he looked up to see the angel girl pouting with her arms crossed in a chair.

They quickly determined the error to be an issue of memory. They had forgotten to give it an information capacity. Since the item information and blueprints did not take up much space, so James got the kobold to give it a terabyte of capacity, to be safe. James suggested having the helm be able to connect to say a magic computer to offload its information. The kobold loved the idea but said he would have to make that with his own materials later. With all those features James was satisfied with the item.

After he was done with the helm, he moved onto the item that he would use to become a Pokémon master! He once again used Celestial Uranium for the item, but also added ashen wood, the wood of Yggdrasil. He made it into a large staff with 10 spheres of transparent yellow crystal around it and along its length. 5 on one side 5 on the other. He wanted to only need to touch or hit a creature with the staff for its effect to activate, but the kobold shot that idea down.

He suggested instead that the item either had to deal enough damage to the creature or land the finishing blow. James accepted the compromise. Next, they had to determine what would happen to the creature that it was used on. They settled that the item would suck in the creature it was used on when either of its conditions were met. A miniature version of the creature appearing within one of the spheres on the staff.

James had an idea for this item, “What if the creature has its level reduced to one, and it could gain EXP to regain its strength?” “Can you elaborate?” “Sure, when a creature is captured by the staff, say a boss for example, it wouldn’t be fair for me to have just pop them back out onto people and let it trample them. So its level is reduced to one, it loses most of its power, and I can’t edit much more than cosmetic details of the NPC, but it gains the ability to gain EXP and can slowly regain its previous strength.”

“I think that is acceptable, what do you guys think?” There were more in favor than opposed to the idea. “We would have nerfed it some other way if you hadn’t suggested this elegant solution. But are you sure you only want cosmetic changes?” The kobold asked with a tilted head. “I still want to determine their backstories and give them equipment. Their appearance, a little customization there would go a long way. I want them to be as powerful as they were. Being allowed to edit their builds make far too much room for error, I would like it if they could grow beyond their original limits however.”

The kobold and most of the others, especially the angel loli, looked at him as if he were crazy, “Please elaborate on making them stronger. That was not part of what you earned I’m sorry to say.” “It would be for things like bosses that I think would be a lot harder to have gain EXP, than say a stolen NPC from a guild base.” James in his moment of panic remembered something he had forgotten to check in on.

“Do any of you know if the level raising cache up items were allowed into the game?” A skeletal goblin butted into the conversation. “Yes, excuse me, I have information on that topic.” The undead bone goblins voice was that of a younger man, who sounded quite scholarly. The others gave him the floor, “Hello James its very nice to meet you.” said the little undead goblin as he vigorously shook James’ hand with both of his.

“When my boss, the head of the Cache up items department, heard that this was going down he told me and all the people in the department to write their name on a slip of paper, that we would raffle off the chance to attend this little meeting in his stead. I have heard the rumors about you, being the first to obtain a world item, only for the reward to be torn away from you by the gods, before you could even know what it was. Oh, I am sorry.” Said the goblin as he finally stopped shaking James’ hand.

“It’s fine. As you were saying.” “Yes right. After a new round of testing and debating the level cap raising cache up items have been approved. As for the matter of your staff if you would like my opinion?” James and the goblin looked toward the others in the room only for Slender Takeda to call out, “Oh come on let him speak!” everyone else in the room looked at him then the goblin, muttering their fines and other words of agreement.

“Well thank you. So, for the staff, how about them being allowed to automatically grow past their previous limits, they simply need to have the level cap raising items used on them.” Everyone of the other observers looked at each other then at James. “Its fine by me. I don’t mind paying.” The angel loli proclaimed, “Fine then is there anything else that your missing!?” James thought for a moment.

“Do I receive the drops if I used the item on the final boss of a dungeon? And would it count as completed since the boss would no longer be in the room technically?”

The group bunched up again and discussed the matter as they had before, for five minutes. The Kobold was once again the one to give the answer. “We can make it so that the drops for the boss or other NPC’s the staff was used on will appear in their inventories, and we will make the system recognize you as the victor should you such a situation come up. By the way we are going to give certain NPC’s immunity to that item, quest givers, world bosses and such.”

“I remember that I mentioned to the head admin, that something holding a world item should be immune to the capture effect of the staff, or something along those line.” “That is one of the things I meant by, and such. We will let you do it with your own NPC’s though.” James thought for a second, “Does that mean I can take my NPC’s out of my guild base with it and then turn them loose onto other players?” The kobold recoiled; they had not thought of that one.

“Give us a moment please.” They went back to their muttered debate. A minute later, “Yes, you will be allowed to use it in that manner.” Please let us see the items so that we may add the relevant changes. He handed over the helm and the staff, and soon enough they were done. He received the items back followed immediately by most of the observers blipped out of existence, save the little loli, “We are going to go make sure you can’t break anything important with that rod of yours.” She said while sticking a little tongue out. “It’s a staff.” James replied twirling it. The loli screamed in frustration and then she to blipped away.
