Side: Alphonso - Grace Knight

King County Prison was your typical prison - made entirely of steel and held some of the worst lawbreakers in the state. Ted Bundy resided here before being executed, and Gary Ridgway is still allowed to roam the halls of this place. Grace has been here for just over a month, and I don’t know how well she’s holding up.

I asked Mylo to stay in the car.

I walked over to whatever I assumed was the front desk and told them I was there to see Grace, and within minutes they let me through, though seemingly looking through me as they let me into an interrogation room with a police officer near the door. After waiting a few minutes, Grace had entered the room as well, sneering at the officer near the door.

“What are you doing here, Al?” She said the second she saw me, sitting down at the table.

“You know I don’t like being called that.” I replied.

“I don’t really care what you ‘like’ being called. This is prison, not your bedroom.”

I sighed, I could already tell this was going to be a long visit. I took out a notebook I had hidden in my jacket as well as a pen and began taking notes.

“What can you tell me about Jared’s connection to Sandra Saunders and Matt Shapiro?” I asked, not trying to waste any time.

“So you came to me instead of Sandra. Kinda weird, Al.” She replied, being as difficult as possible.

“I did talk to Sandra. Turns out, she has the ability to see through the eyes of others without them knowing. She could be watching this conversation through my eyes right now, so take that into consideration when you think about out your next sentence.”

There was a brief moment of silence. I looked deep into Grace’s hazel eyes. She knew more than she was letting on.

“Fine. But only because I can’t lie to Sandra. What exactly do you want to know?” Grace finally replied, irritated.

“Why was Sandra kidnapped first?” I asked.

“Lang was, notably, a piece of shit. He met someone named Ronald Taylor who was making a list of people he needed out of the picture. Sandra was the perfect first target, cause Lang knew she was a lesbian, and that was the exact type of person Ronald wanted kidnapped.”

“Ronald Taylor?”

“Leader of some hidden assassin cult. Apparently, his daughter up and left a few months ago. No one knows where she is, and because of that, he’s kidnapping queer people. Dude has a serious hate boner.”

“How do you know this?”

“Dave told me. The Sinister Gang has intel for every person with power in the state of Washington. They aren’t all incompetent. Some of that was also stuff Sandra bitched about off the clock.”

“Where does Matt fit into this?”

“No fuckin’ clue who that guy is. Sounds like a douchebag, though.”

“He’s got a radio show, called the Matt Slapp. His whole plan is to do a TV special then use his ability to turn everyone’s lives into a waking nightmare and cure queerness somehow.”

“So... Douchebag, got it.”

“Anything else about Lang I might need to know?”

“Well, outside of what I already told you, Lang fired Sandra a couple days before the layoffs. Apparently, she wasn’t allowed to do sex work while working as his secretary. That was after he found out about her personal life, and it wasn’t in her contract. I’d offer more than that, but unfortunately they got Lang locked up in Solitary for some reason. He’s losing his mind, especially now that his daughter’s running the company and giving most of the people involved with the nuclear reactor their jobs back.”

“So I’ve heard. That answers... maybe two questions?”

“Ms. Knight, your time is up.” The police officer spoke sternly while Grace stood up to leave the room.

“It’s been a real slice, Al. Come visit again when you’re less serious. It’s more fun that way. Or, you can send over Brendan, I’d love to confuse the shit out of him. He’s a dumbass and I like that in a man.” Grace said in a way that was both overtly sexual and incredibly sarcastic, letting the officer escort her out of the room.

I stayed for a few minutes to go over my notes while trying to call Sandra to ask about this new information. I called her personal number, as that was likely my best bet and I didn’t want the rest of the team to know that I visited Grace.

“You’ve reached Sandra, I saw that entire conversation.” She immediately responded following her answering the call.

“Then you know what I’m about to ask.” I replied.

“Lang is a certified piece of shit, Grace was right about that. Everything she said was true. Lang was always looking for a reason to fire me after his meeting with Ronald, and managed to do so a few days afterwards. I tried to sue him for wrongful termination because it was not explicitly stated in my contract with Lang Corp that I wasn’t allowed to work a second job while working for Lang, and I told him so. He immediately went ballistic afterwards, demanding that I pack up my shit and leave. I was kidnapped by Shapiro at a motel that same night, under the guise of being a paid booty call. A few days later is when your team fought Grace. Matt thought it’d be funny for me to watch my best friend get beaten by her romantic interest. Grace wasn’t interested in you, though. She thought you were gay.”

“She was partially right. I’m assuming that makes Ronald Taylor the primary culprit?”

“Well, he definitely started everything. But he didn’t work alone. He just set everything in motion. To find his daughter and bring her back. But according to Shapiro right before the rescue operation, they never found her. They had to capture Mylo instead. The others on the list were likely put on by others. Ronald only wanted to find his Daughter. I don’t know more than that.”

“Thanks, Sandra. You’ve been a big help.”

“Of course I have. I can literally see everything. I’ll call back when I have more information.”

Sandra then hung up the phone, and I went back to my car to drive back to my apartment. However, as I started driving away, the teamline went up and I heard Caspian telling everyone that they have the list.

Without a second thought, I drove directly back to the department.
