Chapter 41 Farewell

May 14, 1410

“Vincent, it's already been a month since I did the mission, do you know when I am getting my next mission?” Ray asked.

“Patience, fresh-blood, it will arrive soon, most likely tomorrow or in the next few days, just be patient.” Vincent answered.

Ray sighed.

“Hopefully he hurries up.” Ray explained and went outside to lay on the grass, it was already nighttime, Ray looked at the stars. As he reminisces about his time with his family, someone appear standing over him, a person, with a silver mask, and black clothing

“What the!?” Ray said, confused, jumping to his feet ready to fight.

“Now, now I would never fight someone who was lucky enough to be turned into a hybrid by my beloved master.” The person explained, in a familiar tone.

“Drogo?” Ray cursed.

“In the flesh.” Drogo said, as extended his arms, like he was about to be embraced by someone.

“....”

“So.” Ray said slowly.

“Ahem, yes, forgive me. First thing first, I will have you know the three of us take our mission of delivering mail extremely seriously. We do our best to make sure they arrive as fast as possible.” Drogo claimed.

“Wait, you heard me?”

“Not intentionally, I happened to be by the window when you two were talking.” Drogo replied.

{Even Vincent didn’t notice him!?}

“So why did you wait?” Ray pondered.

“To speak to you of course, I would rather not bother him with a question, so I’ll ask you instead.” Drogo explained.

“...Ok.”

“Well it's one thing actually, did you receive a letter from my acquaintance?”

“You mean Drisc-”

“I knew it, that mealsy tried to pull a fast one on me, I knew I saw more mail in our master desk before I left!” Drogo blurted.

Soon the back door of the house swung open, Vincent came out and stared at Ray looking confused.

“Who are you talking to?” Vincent said.

Ray turned to face Drogo but saw he disappear, then a figure landed in front of Vicent, it was Drogo.

“Sorry about that, Mister Vincent, I didn’t know it was going to be you who opened the door. Better safe than sorry.”

“Ah, Drogo. I see, come on in.”

Ray, and Drogo went inside the house. Ray locked the door, and headed towards the living where Vincent was already seated, and Drogo went through his bag.

“Alright, Mister Vincent here you go.”

Drogo handed two scrolls of paper to Vincent, Vincent layed one down, opened the other one, and started reading it.

“Here you go.”

Drogo handed Ray a small brown bag, Ray felt it, it seemed to have coins inside of it, and Drogo handed him a scroll as well.

“Well that is everything, I am well on my way back to my dear master.” Drogo bantered.

“You sure, we are about to have dinner, you can join us?” Vincent asked.

“It's quite alright, I have already eaten before I came, so Mister Ray, if you please escort me out the back door, I will appreciate it.”

“Sure.”

Ray went with Drogo. Ray opens the door for Drogo, and watches him as he gets close to the woods, before vanishing before his own eyes.

{He’s fast. I couldn't even see in which direction he left, I know Vincent said those three aren’t really strong but still.}

Ray closed the door, and went back to the living room. Vincent was back to reading the scroll of paper. Ray picked up his mail, sat down and unscrolled it and started reading it.

Brat, Well done on your mission. Even though you could have done more, nonetheless you completed it. Now your next mission will be a little different, you will head to the village of Temes. Vincent will give you directions to it, once you arrive you will look for the hill that oversees the village, there you will meet a hybrid who was turned by one of the leads. By the time Drogo mail this, you are to arrive there in three days time, I would suggest leaving as soon as you get this letter. The both of you will be working to kill a blessed knight who awakens the next stage of their blessing. The knight's name is Roberto. The two of you have until the end of the next month to complete this mission. This is an order as well, be sure when you start the mission, it has to be at the last week of the month, not a day sooner. As well the hybrid name is Justin, he will be using an alias until the two of you meet, his would be John, and yours Sam. Don’t disappoint your sister, be sure to complete this mission Ray.

“Master.” Ray mumbled.

Ray grabbed the bag, and looked inside it was filled with gold coins, Ray carefully put them on the table and counted them. He had over one hundred currencies.

“So what does it say?”

Ray gave the letter to Vincent, Vincent grabbed it, and read through it. Putting it back to the table when he finished reading it. Vincent also grab the

“Wow, so it's going to be one of those missions.” Vincent complained.

“What do you mean?”

“Nevermind that, Temes huh, I don’t think we have anyone stationed there, I guess that is why she gave you that bag of money so you can stay at an inn. That much can easily give you a stay for two weeks. Though that last part in the letter, yes I see.”

“Is there a reason Master Senya wants me to do the mission in the last week of the next month?” Ray question.

“Well she has her reason, now then I know that the letter said, you should leave as soon as possible. But you should wait at least until tomorrow morning.”

Ray wanted to argue, but bit his lip, he knew he was already getting tired from all the work they did today.

“It is a good thing we told the villagers I will be leaving soon.” Ray praised Vincent.

“Yes, so far there is nobody going to Temes, so you shouldn’t worry about meeting anyone from here. I’ll be sure to check where the other villagers are heading, if one of them is going to Temes, I might have to kill them.

“Hopefully it doesn’t come to that.”

“Yes, now then how about you go get your things ready for tomorrow, I will make a feast. What are you in the mood for?”

“Anything we have is ok.” Ray answered.

“You sure?” Vincent asked.

“Yes…please.”

“Ok.”

Vincent stood up, and went to the kitchen. Ray looked at the table which had all the letters, one of the letters that belonged to Vincent was still unscrolled. Ray looks behind him, then looks at the paper, being sure not to touch it. Ray read what he could.

Vincent I got your mail, everything you said in your letter match with what Viola told me, I already send her to an appropriate mission, if she succeeds she will come out even stronger, if not-

“Hey fresh-blood.” Vincet called out.

“Yeah! Do you need anything?” Ray quickly said.

“No, but go to your room, and start packing.”

“Right.”

{I wonder what kind of suicide mission, it going to be. Viola please come back alive, please.}

Ray went to his room, grabbed a packback, and started three sets of clothes. After being done he tied it, and put it and the end of the table, he was about to leave the room, when he remembered what he had hidden.

Ray went to his bed, and easily lifted it, grabbing the black bag. He looked inside of it, and grabbed the mask Viola gave him. Besides the bottom part of the mask, it was fine, the red lines still had their shine, Ray put on the mask, and looked at the mirror.

{So this is who I really have to be.}

Ray took off the mask, and put it in the backpack with the rest of the black bag, he made sure to tie it tightly, and headed back downstairs. “Hey, Vincent I am done, do you need help with anything?”

“Just set the table, I am almost done.”

Ray went and set the table, taking a seat, soon Vincent came with the food, as they both ate in silence.

“The food was great, thanks Vincent.”

“No, problem, now go do the dishes, I need to get the map, so I can start writing a list of directions for you.”

Ray did what he was told, as he was done, he went back to the living, and saw Vincent standing, while inspecting a map on the table. Ray got closer, and saw Vincent writing on a paper.

“Ok, fresh-blood to head to Temes, you’ll be walking quite a while, if you hurry, you will probably arrive in three days time. Once you do arrive, be sure to avoid the village entrance. The first thing you need to do is find that other hybrid.”

Ray nodded his head, paying attention to everything Vincent was telling him.

“Alright, you will start by heading from the woods behind the house, I pin point landmarks on your map, so you know if you are heading in the right direction, for example the first landmark you come across would be a giant black rock. You can’t miss it, you should see about thirteen landmarks before you arrive at Temes.” Vincent listed.

“Can I see the map?”

“Yeah, here are the directions as well, I will go get you a compass, it should help you find your bearings.”

Vincent left the room, while Ray insected the map, and the route he is going to take to get there.

{The village of Temes, where the other hybrid, and I have to kill a blessed knight who awakens the next color after red. I wonder if the both of us are going to make it through the end in one piece?}

Vincent came back to the living room, and handed Ray a wooden box. Ray opened it, and saw a compass, which was already pointing to the north side.

Ray thanked Vincent and carefully put it in his pocket.

“Well, fresh-blood, I’ll be heading to the bed, you should too, it's going to be a long walk, you need all the rest you can get.” Vincent advised.

Ray nodded his head, and told Vincent he would make sure the lanterns were off, Vincent grabbed his mail, and headed to his room. Ray listened as he closed his door, and went to put out the fire in the lanterns. After doing that Ray went quietly to the back door of the house, and layed on the grass.

{To think today was my last day here, how fast things changed, Still that means I am one day closer to seeing Eda again, and that’s fine. I hope you are doing well.}

Ray only looked at the stars for a few minutes, before heading back inside, and going to his room, and went to sleep.

Ray woke up, put on his clothes, and jacket, grabbed the backpack from the bed, and headed downstairs, Vincent was already cooking breakfast.

“Morning, Vincent.”

“Morning, I am going to make you a light meal, before you leave, so go to the living room.” Vincent ordered.

Ray went to the living room, setting down his backpack next to him, and waited for Vincent to bring his breakfast. As he came, Ray quickly ate it, Vincent grabbed the plate from Ray, and headed to the kitchen. Ray followed after him.

“So is there anything else you want me to do before I go?” Ray asked.

“No, I believe that is everything, you should get going, come on, I’ll walk you out.”

“Alright, I am going to miss your place.” Ray said.

“Right, I’ll walk you out, I just wanted to put the dishes in the sink.” Vincent said, as he turned around and walked past Ray, and headed to the backyard.

Vincent stops in the middle of the backyard, looking at the forest. Ray passed Vicent, and turned to face him. They stare at each other in silence, when Ray gives his thanks.

“Thank you for everything, Vincent. I hope we can meet again” Ray thanked, as he bowed his head.

Vincent took a couple of steps closer to Ray, Ray looked up and saw Vincent standing near him, with his arm extending towards him. Ray grabbed it and shook it.

“Don’t die on me, ok.” Vincent said.

“I won’t, I’ll get stronger so I can take part in the mission of the pillars.”

“Easy, don’t push yourself too hard. Baby steps, ok.”

“Ok.”

“If you are lost just look at your compass, or map.”

“I know.” Ray admitted.

“I’ll be sure to keep an eye on your progress.”

“Thanks.”

“Goodluck. Ray.”

Ray was taken aback, but quickly got himself together and smiled at Vincent. “Thanks Vincent, and you too.”

Ray turned and faced the forest taking a deep breath, and jumped into the forest on his way to his next mission.

{I will do better this time.}
