They took him away. He wished to stay with her. When would be the next time she will see another? When the hand came, he fought it. With mandibles and claws, he struggled. His sister tried to help him. Whenever he was caught, she would come to his side and pull the fingers to little avail. The hand did not seek to hurt either of them so it would relent after a bit and he would escape. This continued until he was too tired. The princess herself was exhausted from this cycle long before his capture. At the final stand, he said to her.
“I will come back again. Don’t worry. Even if they seal every entrance, I will come back for you.”
She watched him as he was whisked away. Now she remained alone.
Being pulled back through the dark halls, he took his time to catch his breath. What a failure he was. He could not defeat their machines and remain by her side. Still, he will reach there once more. Watching and feeling the dark walls that he passed by, he memorized their texture and flaws. Every unique piece that he recognizes will be a step closer to finding his way back. Now he wondered what to do now. Where was he headed? Exiting the halls into the next room, he had recognized it as the main chambers that he lived in.
He was dropped inside and the hand retracted itself. A mana crystal lies in the middle of the room. He recognized it. The crystal served as a resource point for his people. They would store their mana inside it and take out what they needed to create a living space. While they wouldn’t accept blocking the mirror and hand entrances, the scientists let them build a nest. He had used this ignorance of theirs to break a hole in their laboratory in the past.
However a new problem appeared. He did not have the capabilities to build a nest. Some of his siblings had an innate ability to convert their mana into a special material that hardened, making it possible for them to build rooms of their own. He needed to find his allies, but for now he could do very little. He realized this so he simply sat down and rested.
“What is he doing?”
The dwarf scientist questions the scientists around him.
“Nothing sir.”

“Why?”
“Uh… we are unsure why.”
“Well, find out. Look at the origin species. Isolate one of them.”
Several scientists leave the mirror room to enforce his commands.
“How dull.”
He leaves the room while the remaining scientists continue to watch over the newborn. Heading down several halls, the dwarf enters a new room. Inside is a large glass case with small beings running about. Termite-like insects scatter about doing their daily tasks. He had used these as a base to create his new species. A few scientists are seen observing them.
“Well?”
They scramble to their feet to salute him before announcing their findings.
“We have not yet isolated a worker, but we have discovered what seems to be the class that the first born is.”
“Oh really? Do tell.”
“We had not seen this in earlier experiments, but in recent colonies a larger and stronger worker will show itself.”
“Is it not a warrior class?”
“It is similar, but it is not. We have named it the leader class. Unlike a king or a warrior, it fills in both roles.”
“Both a king and warrior?”
“Indeed. It was seen leading other workers to finding fresh food and even combating hostile creatures. Its capabilities as a combatant are far superior than that of other warriors.”
“Have you simulated if it will always be the first born?”
“We have, but it proved to be false. Other workers are always born before it.”
“Hmm… then what of our newborn?”
“Either the new species have different abilities and duties or he is not a leader class or in an unlikely case, he is indeed the leader class but just born early.”
“I see. Get more workers with him. Let’s see what he does with them.”
“There currently aren’t any.”
“Then throw him in with the eggs then. Maybe he can wake them up like he did the Princess.”
“Yes sir.”
“But first, tag him. He will be 001, the first of his kind.”
With that, the dwarf left.
