Laboratory

Was it fate? Would be brought here again. Would he suffer here again? It couldn’t be. Was his and his sister’s wish to live alone and in peace so great a crime against the world that he would be forced to live here once more?

The floor below was gray concrete. It was the same as the laboratories where he and his sisters were experimented on. He was here once more. His vision expanded with the passage of time and the more it did, the more despair he felt. He recognized it. The rows of white eggs all along a gray concrete floor with lights hanging from the ceiling.

After lamenting on it for a few moments, he claps his head together. It felt unreal that this would be Hell. The multiple Hell realms that he knew of did not have such features. None were told to replay one’s worst memories for them to live again. Many of them tormented their victims, but this reality that he was in did not feel so. Certainly he felt tormented by his environment, but why not just throw him to the most brutal of situations he has been in. Even his supposed Purgatory turned out to be nothing more than an egg.

Calming down, he recalled the events that led here. His Queen and sister fell off a cliff. Though he felt that she was already dying, he could have saved her with healing spells or so he very dearly hoped. They were badly surrounded. His niece and nephews laid dead and there was no other way to leave. Perhaps it was simple desperation. Possibly even a form of coping.

When she did fall, she exploded into a ball of light. Why? Maybe it was to spare herself from being eaten alive by the maggots or maybe something else. Digging deeper into his memories, he could recall that a magician could sacrifice their soul to cast a spell. A person’s soul is where mana and magic are formed. One can train their soul to house more and more mana and cast larger and better spells. Sacrificing one’s soul would cause them to disintegrate as their spell would most likely be more than what they could handle. He could only wonder about the amount of power the spell casted on him by his sister’s last actions.

Now what about his current situation. By all rights, he had just tore his way out of his egg like how he had done so many years ago. Does this mean he had reincarnated? What are the chances that he would be here? No… unless there are experiments like this all around the world, the laboratory that once imprisoned him was destroyed by the Dwarves. The mad scientist who created him and his comrades was a heretical dwarf. He along with many other blasphemers of different races joined together to create a new species. His foul plans were however found and destroyed by the Dwarves who saw this as playing gods. Such heresy would not escape them and their god’s judgment.

So where was he now? Rather what will he do now? All of his friends and family are gone. The only remaining pieces of them are in his memories. If a god did watch over him, how cruel of it to let him suffer once more but with his memories of his loved ones. Why couldn’t it just let him live in ignorance. At least he wouldn’t have to bear the burdens of his mistakes in this life as well. The thoughts of his failures caused him to fall to his knees, he cried softly for a few moments before getting up.

He took a look at himself. His carapace was still white like a newborn, rather it was because he was a newborn. His muscles were very undeveloped and the energy he once had was gone. His knowledge remained however. The spells he had could still be used. Shaking off the dark thoughts that consumed him, he trudged forward towards the entrance to the egg chamber that he was in.
