Chapter 24; Slight progress

> I want to go home, I want to have a home again. Why am I even here?

>

> Every second I sit here I just want to close my eyes and forget it all.

>

> But I can't, but I will soon, but I don't want to. I'm both afraid of forgetting and anticipating it, but I can't remember why.

>

> It feels so freeing.

>

> ...I don't know why, but I feel like just, I guess itd it'd be nice to kill someone for once. Before I stop seeing those pretty, little, stars.

>

> Actually, no.

>

> I want to eat some good food, I don't care about some family I'll never meet or remember again, I don't care about that annoying kid that punched me in the gut. I want to eat one of those weird things, the ones that killed a lot of people.

>

> If they ate so many, then they're sure to taste at least somewhat good.

-Excerpt from a diary by an unknown being found within the abyss.

----------------------------------------

Falc had taken a look, as he had chosen to do.

Well, he was technically both taking a look right now and had already taken a look. He was reviewing the multiple records he had filed of the second weave slimes and their brethren, and, well.

The... The water, wasn't exactly disappearing as he thought. That wasn't exactly bad to know that, it did- Well, it was good to know, Falc had to admit even if he didn't like it. At least he didn't need to worry about doing something he couldn't even see happening, and he didn't need to worry about the troubles of the water aspect since it wasn't anything to do with manipulating the water directly.

First of all, to clarify something once again; the water slimes were made of was not normal water, and as such, did not behave exactly the same as water even if he didn't know exactly why outside of it not being entirely in accord with the normal principles materials were bound to due to aspectual tomfoolery, though he did not exactly understand those original rules either.

Now, back to the important thing, the way a nuclei was made was- In simple terms- Mana displacing the water when it reaches a high enough concentration, with the support of the weave of course. The water remained, it was just arranged strangely within the physical realm... Since it was not completely physical anymore, but also it was. It more toed the line between the physical and spiritual, making it harder to find when Falc was just looking for regular water.

It was kind of confusing to the crystalline sleuth, since the mana had actually somehow become physical. Not material mind you, just physical. Which did indeed make it easier to understand and differentiate it from creating something with an aspect, since that was really creating a material. The physical mana was completely different in nature in comparison to a material like water or stone, not really being divisible to a limited degree like stone nor loose and freely flowing like water.

It was a bit of a shame it seemed that the physical mana did require a material basis to subsume, probably because it would dissipate like any other mana would without being given a little spark of life. Though that did bring into question what the difference between a leveled slime's nuclei and a normal one, which did indeed bring up a single little problem: He didn't exactly look at nor record the strange fringe water of the nuclei inside slime apostle 1.

Though, that didn't mean he couldn't take a look at the elder slime nuclei easily available to him. And, as expected, it was fundamentally different to the regular nuclei and he had no clue why it made that much of a difference. For you see, the water had stepped onto the border between physical and non-physical instead of just barely skimming along the edge, along with some both physical and non physical mana supporting it.

Though, yes, outside of that the form of said border stepping water inside the elder nuclei probably held some kind of significance. It poked out of the physical domain in a surprisingly uniform way, holding a total of 12 outcroppings, in the form of a icosahedron. Even if Falc himself did not know what an icosahedron was and merely noted their uniform distance apart from other fellows that wished to peek out of the regular realm of existence.

...

'Alright,' He thought to himself 'though I have absolutely no clue what I'm doing, I can see what I need to do. Just copy the motions and it'll be fine.'

Though a nuclei was more nuanced than just slime water brought to the edge of physicality through subsuming mana, that wasn't exactly the hardest part. At least he assumed it wouldn't be, since it could happen naturally without the power of an intelligent mind.

It would probably take some time to get a hang of it, but he seemed to have some time considering that not a single sentient had found themselves properly entering the tunnels since the last team tried. a good result, it meant that it was properly inhospitable as intended!

-Maybe, he hoped no more sentients would try to enter for a while, especially not until they met the end at the cone of doom.

And seeing that the new batch of second weave slimes were nearing completion, it also meant that he might be able to find out what a leveled slime nuclei was like soon.

----------------------------------------

"Yes, your husband was found to have stage 17 terminal abdominal cancer. Even though he miraculously survived the total collapse of an entire building, he died soon after due to his very much terminal disease. There was nothing we could do, I am sorry for your loss." Thalos said, a certain solemn aura looming.

But underneath lay a wheezing soul, as he looked on with joy at a little screen that appeared in front of the guild master.

Skill : lvl 2 -> lvl 3

It was his fourth [Rare] skill, and though that might've seemed a bit lackluster considering he had an [Epic] class, it was one not related to it. Which was very good, since though [Rare] skills were not that hard to come by when one had the foundation of decades of grinding lower level skills, being able to gain a [Rare] skill without a high level lower rarity skill associated with it was very difficult. It meant that he had quite some talent in the area, if he ever felt the need to, after stripping himself of his class it wouldn't be super surprising if he could get an [Epic] class related to it.

One with skill boosts and stat bonuses worthy of its title... It wasn't as if the stat growth wasn't good with {Magic swordsman}, it was just a... Divided into two different avenues, which did make him less powerful stats wise. Since, as consensus had declared many times throughout history; 300 in physical or magic stats is better than 200 in both halves. Mostly since punch or whatever with 300 of various stats behind it was far more troublesome than one with 200.

But that problem would be partially accounted for when the real bread and butter of {Magic swordsman} was accounted for. After which, with the preparations of his father he'd have an easy time entering [Rare] and [Epic] dungeons to really settle down as one of the big shots of the kingdom as a level 70 to 80 something. If he just went over the border he'd probably never be considered one of the top powers since there there were at least two official zeniths- Level 100's- Enjoying the longer lifespan provided by their large collection of levels.

But enough of improbable fantasies, first he had to get off of this griever before took effect in something in a less than favourable way "And though it is a pity and I would love for you to keep crying, we must not cry, because we are the ones who killed him-"

"-What?" She couldn't help but ask, Thalos instantly thinking of a answer.

"Sorry, I have been very stressed since the... Dragon aftershock. I misspoke, please forgive me," He quickly spoke, as if he just realized what he said. This was the problem with , it wasn't exactly under his control. It wasn't lying frequently, it was lying pathologically, it could easily get side tracked in some random lie that he wouldn't even have thought of "I think it is for the best that both of us take a long break."

The woman paused for a moment and nodded "Yes, I think that's a good idea."

But the effect was so good to the point where he personally believed the drawbacks were well worth it, since as a skill with a drawback the effect of the skill was increased proportionally. One could just see how good it was from how easily the now widowed woman believed that her husband had some made-up disease she had never heard of with a ridiculous name, even if he made sure to use his own lying know-how, normal and skills along with her distressed mental state to his advantage.

Considering that her class probably didn't support intelligence or will, when his new skill finally went up into the 30's or beyond he might even be able to convince her the sky was not blue. But instead, a vibrant and extremely obvious red. It would be hilarious, trust me.

Well, maybe it wouldn't. But that didn't really matter to Thalos himself, it was more important to turn off before he for some reason confessed to the murder of thirteen infants. Watching the widow walk out of his office with an obvious sulk, he closed his eyes and felt within himself while taking a deep breath. There it lay- Not really lay, but, it was there somewhere- His head-strong skill.

He saw it vibrantly working at full capacity, a bit more vigorous than a moment before, and strangled it despite the resistance he met in the process. Slowly it was pushed back into it's little cage and brought back to its natural inactive state, no longer bringing a giant risk to his reputation.

Things seemed to be calming down by now, even if the few attempts at making progress through the slime plains was met by either acid to the face or a major lack of rope and problems with dealing with a large amount of slimes a long way down with only one or two people.

He slowly paced for a moment with silence looming, it was both calm and slightly dreadful. He wondered for a moment what Zera was doing, she was probably already done with the paperwork, maybe she was drinking from the bar's supply again? He couldn't help but wonder if he should stop her if she was, it was money that the branch would lose and having an alcoholic as a paperwork worker was bad.

...

With a big breath, he looked outside as the sun shone down with arrogant radiance, and smiled.

He said he liked it here, despite the constant threat of the unknown each time he descended down, of the dragon slumbering south or anything else, and this was why.

He was so free that he could think of such things.
