Chapter 42: Change Of Plans

Chapter 42: Change Of Plans

An armed group of guards stood in front of her, twelve of them to be exact. A measley twelve vs. her. This hardly seemed fair. But she was told they were the best of the best. She would accept no less. So if they truly are the best, they should have no trouble fighting the likes of her.

The woman ran her fingers through her platinum blond hair. Her crystal blue eyes showing not one ounce of fear. Each guard wore armor and were armed with guns. Three of them had a machine guns filled with silver bullets. Another three behind them had pistols armed with sunlight bullets. The third set of three had shotguns. The fourth set of three had mixed weapons. One had a saber meant to stun foes. Another had a rocket launcher and the last one had a sniper rifle armed with armor piercing rounds.

“So the best of the best you say,” She slipped on her white fingerless gloves. She would judge them for using ranged weapons but seeing as they’re human. It was a wise decision besides not many could handle her in close quarters.

“Yes, madam,” The man spoke. “These guards are the elite. Armed with weapons and gear found only by those employed by Dracula. The gear was not easy to get a hold of but you can’t argue with the results. These are the finest more than enough to protect your town I assure you. Miss Liley,”

“I will be the judge of that,” Liley smirked. “My town suffered a great deal of losses thanks to Lord Alexander’s screw up and I’ll be damned if there is another. You know the saying, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, the blame is on me and I don’t screw up.” She took a step forward.

The guards stepped back watching her carefully. Acting on defense that’s a good sign. At least she knows they won’t attack unless they’re attacked first. A must have for her new line of security.

“Before we begin,” Liley stared at the guards. Her eyes trailing all twelve of them. “Know that everything you see here is not to be relayed to anyone. This is strictly confidential and if you speak a word of it. You,” She walked forward, they backed up. “Become the target. You don’t want to become the target. What you’re about to see is far from my true potential so unless you’d like to see my true potential. I advise you to keep this fight between us. In other words,” She put her right hand on her hip. “Spill my secret and I’ll spill your guts on the floor.” The guards gulped. “Are we clear?” She smiled at them, they nodded their heads. “Okay then, let’s begin.”

Liley charged forward, she slid her body aligned so that bullets being fired by their guns zoom past her. Not one bullet touched her skin. She jumped over the rocket as it was fired at her and used the explosion to launch herself at the guards with machine guns. She backhanded one sending him flying to the wall. She caught one as he tried to strike her with his gun. She held the gun in place over his head. She then kicked him in the stomach and threw his gun aside. He pulled out a stun rod. She dodged and tripped him. While he was falling he was struck by a palm strike being sent flying.

Liley sidestepped a shotgun blast. She pointed his gun down then elbowed him in the face. While he was covering his bloody nose. She jumped and hit him with a drill attack sending him flying back.

“You’re mine,” The guard with the saber went to strike her. Liley caught the saber being shocked by the electricity radiating off the blade. She absorbed the lightning channeling it into her other arm. She struck him with a light palm strike sending those same electric currents into his body. He fell to the floor unconscious.

Liley tilted her head dodging a sniper bullet. The bullet bolted past her and she rushed toward the sniper. She leapt over a rocket as it was fired at her. A guard with the pistol threw a flash grenade at her. The flash blinded her.

“Light her up,” He began firing bullets at her followed by the other two pistol users and the guard with the machine gun. Liley evaded the bullets, one of the guards with a shotgun snuck up behind her while the second one snuck to her side. They both fired at once. Liley jumped over them both grabbed them by the back of their necks and slammed their faces into each other. She kicked them at the three pistol users forcing them to shoot their teammates. As a result, they stopped shooting, when they did Liley dropped down from above hitting one of them with a powerful axe kick. The shockwave blasted the other two back as well as the two shotgun users. Knocking all of them out.

“Only three of you left,” Liley laughed. “I don’t why I thought this would be a challenge.” The three guards backed up in fear. “Not to worry, I’ll make this quick,” She started to rush forward. The door behind her opened, a red haired woman in a white dress walked into the room.

“Are you done playing games?” She asked. “If you are, I’d like to have a word with you in private. If that’s okay with you, mayor Liley.” She adjusted her glasses. She added the mayor part in a snide tone almost like she intended to mock the title. Leave it to Karrin to get on her nerves. Liley pretended to ignore her and kept walking toward the three remaining guards. “Maybe this will get your attention, you’re officially off the case. I’m taking over.”

“You’re what,” Liley turned to face her. Karin smirked. “No, I was told that I was to handle the problem.” She dodged the machine bullets being fired at her. She moved, getting closer while evading his shots. The second she was close to him. She grabbed his wrist and pulled him in front of her, his back facing her. While his back was facing her. She struck with a kick to the side of his face forcing him to the ground with her heel on top of him. “Not you,” She pressed down, grinding his face into the ground. “This is my assignment,” She released him, he tried to run from her. “I will not hand it over to the likes of you.” She struck him in the back with a powerful drill attack knocking him out. She flicked a sniper bullet with her index finger. It fired back, hitting the sniper in the side of the leg. While he was trying to treat his wounded leg. Liley jumped and kicked him in the face knocking him out. The guard with a rocket launcher threw his gun down and started running.

“Nobody likes a coward,” Liley pulled a magnum out of her boot and shot the guard in the head. The bullet went straight through his skull and blew the head off a diamond statue of Lord Alexander. “What do you know, these toys Jace made actually are useful. He told me he could craft a bullet that could break diamond and it turns out he wasn’t lying.” She put her gun away. “How much for the guards?”The man went to answer before he could, she interrupted him. “Consider it done, now leave us.” He nodded and left.

“You have my attention,” Liley sat down in her chair. “Now,” She crossed her legs. “What do you mean I’m off the Hybrid case. I was told by my father that I was to be the one to handle it thus far, I have been.”

“Let’s take a look at your progress shall we?” Karrin pulled out a remote. She pushed a button. A television emerged from the ceiling appearing a few feet from Liley. “First, I gave you information you needed to deal with the matter. I told you that the werewolf responsible was Raven Lycan’s wife and male vampire responsible was Angel. Blaire’s husband, You knew the two responsible all you had to do is set Lord Alexander and Lord Grimm on the path of killing them. We can’t let them know we’re keeping tabs on their every move. It violates the contract. So, it falls to us to point them in the right direction. Which is what you were supposed to do.”

“I did,” Liley argued. “I had Raven take a pregnancy test proving she’s carrying a Hybrid. She was put in custody and all she had to do is point out Angel. She’s too stubborn to do that but in that case. I can kill Angel myself. All I need is the opportunity to do it without exposing who we are. So how is it I’m off the case.”

“Because in regard to not exposing who we are,” Karrin pushed a button on the remote. It showed footage of Liley licking up Angel’s blood and whispering in his ear. “I’m pretty sure you tipped him off and he’s the target. So that’s a big mistake.”

“What does it matter, I gave him a hint, he’s dead anyway.” Liley reminded her. “I fail to see why that’s reason enough to give the Hybrid case to you.” She added. “So go ahead with your presentation. It’s nice to know you’ve been watching my every move. Perhaps, now, you’ll see how the pros handle a hybrid outbreak.”

“Pro?” Karrin raised her brow. “You had Angel in your grasp and could have killed him right then. But of course, Lord Alexander wouldn’t have known Angel is father to a hybrid. The only reason you had for killing him then was because your town was attacked. Granted we both know he wasn’t the culprit and you would be violating the contract had you killed him then. Luckily, Lord Alexander stopped you from doing so. Another rash decision on your part.”

“Whatever,” Liley rolled her eyes. “I still have Raven custody. So, as far as I’m concerned. Everything is under control. One down, one to go. So this one vampire is being a little complicated. It’s nothing I can’t handle.”

“No, nothing is under control because you have no pieces in play.” Karrin pressed the button on the remote. It showed Lord Grimm’s dungeon empty. “Raven has escaped, she is no longer in custody so you failed on both accounts. No vampire, No werewolf, the two lovebirds are still happily nesting and to make matters worse. She’s officially carrying a Hybrid. If that’s not enough,” She pressed the button on the remote. It showed Angel walking in daylight. “The vampire you were supposed to kill has learned to use spirit and from what I can see. He has a large amount of it. So, when were you going to kill him? Was it before or after he got strong enough to kill you? I’m just curious,”

“I left Raven with Lord Grimm and his right hand Nikan. You’re telling me she somehow escaped a castle full of werewolves.” Liley growled. “What was he doing taking a break from his job? He’s king of the werewolves and all he had to do was keep that bitch in custody. This is ridiculous,” She rose to her feet. “I’ll handle this, I’ll go collect her myself and I’ll lock her in my own little prison. That way she won’t escape. As for Angel, I’ll go kill him right now.” She started to leave but Karrin blocked her path.

“It’s too late, you failed.” Karrin smirked. “You’re no longer on the Hybrid case. I spoke to your father. He doesn’t think you trying to prove yourself to him is worth dying for. So, there’s been a change of plans. I’m taking over, these types of situations are my specialty. This is why you shouldn’t put a child in charge of delicate matters. They always find some way to screw it up.” She adjusted her glasses. “Personally, I blame it on the fact that you cater too much to these humans. You’re so focused on your role as Mayor that you forget. The humans only serve as cover in the greater scheme of things. Whether they live or die is not a concern of ours. Even if your precious town was to go up in flames. It matters not to us, it just means a change of scenery. What you need to understand is.” She crossed her arms. “You’re not one of them so stop pretending like you are. It’s holding you back. This whole mayor facade is nothing more than a crutch. The sooner you realize that, the better off you’ll be. Now excuse me, this Hybrid matter isn’t going to take care of itself.” Her lips formed a devilish smirk as she heard Liley throwing one of her infamous temper tantrums.

“The lovebirds might have been too much for Liley to handle. But I on the other hand,” Karrin adjusted her glasses. “Will be much more difficult to deal with.” Her eyes shifted to the woman in a black robe. She rolled her eyes and with a snap of her fingers. A black portal was created, appearing right in front of them. She walked into a black portal. The portal brought her to Lord Grimm’s lower dungeon. The cell was covered in Raven’s scent. The perfect location for finding the proper tools for the hunt. She grabbed the blanket off the mattress and used it as a cloak to hide her face. With this, she’d share Raven’s scent. “After all,” An evil girn appeared on her lips. “I know exactly where they are hiding.”

“This place reeks, you done here?” The woman asked. She was wearing a black robe and had a hood to hide her face. She walked into the portal. “You know, I’m more than just a source of transportation. I do have other uses, Karrin.” She walked into the portal with Karrin.
