“Enough,” Lord Alexander rose from his throne. “Fate, Brandon, Selene, and Scythe.” The four of them nodded. “Prepare for the tournament, the rest of you to the stands to spectate.” Angel went to leave along with Ziek and Jayden. “Not you Angel,” He placed his hand on his shoulder. “This tournament is your idea and we need to discuss how the tournament will go.”
“Understood,” Angel stayed behind while Ziek and Jayden reported to the stands. He stood there in the throne room with Blaire and her father. “So, how will they be matched?” He asked. “Will it be randomized or-,”
“No, I was going to let Blaire decide.” Lord Alexander answered. “You picked the candidates, she’ll pick the matches.” Angel already knew what Blaire’s intentions were. She was going to try to sabotage Selene. Regardless, Angel’s confident that whatever Blaire tries to pull Selene’s strong enough to overcome it.
“Fair enough,” Angel allowed. “Blaire picks who fights who and the winners of the fights. Fight each other to determine the next commander. Well, Blaire,” He turned to face her. “What’s your decision?”
“The first match will be Brandon Vs. Fate,” Blaire answered. “The two of them are close in rank so it should prove to be an entertaining fight.” Angel couldn’t argue, he didn’t know Fate’s skillset but it had to be somewhere close to Brandon’s level. If not, perhaps a bit higher, this fight would be the determining factor.
“That would leave Scythe to fight against Selene.” Lord Alexander added. Angel was a bit worried about Selene fighting Scythe. This wasn’t going to go well for her. Still, if anyone had a chance of beating him it was her, she’d pull through somehow. She just needed Scythe to make one small mistake and she could turn the fight in her favor. “Well, Angel, any objections?” He asked. “I, for one, like the arrangements.”
“No objections,” Angel agreed. “So, who will be monitoring the fights? We would need someone to announce the start of a match and the victor. Plus, they’d need to intervene should it get too violent. I guess what I’m saying is,” He rubbed the back of his neck. “We need some kind of Referee.” They both turned their sights to him. “Me?,” Angel pointed at himself. “You want me to do it?”
“Yes, the tournament is your idea.” Lord Alexander pointed out. “You should be the one running it. I’ll merely be watching from the stands. In fact, I’d be honored if you watched the tournament beside me. I’ll have my servants make a place for you next to me.” He snapped his fingers and the servants left to fulfill his request.
“What?” Blaire shouted, “I sit next to you, not him.” She pointed at Angel. “What is going on here father?” She yelled. “I will not sit here while you give my chair to the likes of him.” She argued. “This isn’t fair, I’m your daughter.”
“Yes and as my daughter, you will do as you are told.” Lord Alexander glared at her. “Your behavior has been quite staggering. Personally, I’d rather not be in your company. You have disrespected me for the last time.” Blaire bit her lip in anger. “You will watch the tournament alongside Jayden and Ziek. You want to act like a child very well, you may act like a child but not in my presence. In my presence you will act like a princess.”
“Child,” Blaire yelled. “You dare call me a child.” She created a diamond sword in her hand. “Very well father, you want me to act as a child fine, I’ll act like one.” She stabbed Angel in the stomach with her sword impaling him. He arched over gripping the sharp blade in his stomach. It hurt so much, he could feel his blood dripping on the floor. “Have your spot next to my father,” She jammed the blade deeper into his stomach. “I don’t give a shit.” She pulled the sword out. “I suggest you heal him,” She glared at Lord Alexander. “He doesn’t look so good.” She stormed out of the throne room. The doors slammed behind her.
“Bitch,” Angel clinched his stomach. He applied pressure to his wound trying to stop the bleeding. He had no idea Blaire was going to be so pissed at him. He breathed through the pain as his blood continued to stain the floor.
“My apologies,” Lord Alexander snapped his finger. Two healers came in and began treating Angel’s wounds. “It seems that my daughter didn’t like my request. However, the offer still stands if you want it.” Once Angel’s wounds were healed, he forced himself to stand back on his feet. “So, Angel, would you like to sit next to me as I watch the tournament?”
“Next to you,” Angel was at a loss for words. “You want me to sit next to you.” Lord Alexander was never the type of person to offer a chair next to him. The only person who got that privilege was his daughter and maybe Scythe. This was completely unexpected since when did Lord Alexander start respecting him. Even if this request upset Blaire, it was too great of an offer to pass up, to be able to sit next to a king and watch this tournament together.
“You don’t want it,” Lord Alexander placed his arms on his throne.
“I do,” Angel bowed to him. “It would be an honor to sit with you sir.” He rose to his feet. “If you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to get everything ready for the tournament.” He walked out of the throne room and to the training ground. Where the tournament will be held.
The Training Grounds Arena was full of vampires watching from the stands. The arena was huge, the walls covered in stone, the concrete floor had the design of a large bat screeching in the center. The spectators began to cheer as Angel took his place at the center of the arena.
“Welcome everyone,” Angel spoke loudly so the crowd could hear him. “Please join me in welcoming our four competitors,” The crowd continued to cheer. “First up,” He placed his hands behind his back. “We have Fate,” He gestured over to the right side entrance.
“Let’s do this,” Fate walked into the Training Grounds Arena. His dark blue hair was styled in gothic fashion. The side of his bangs stopped just before his pale blue eyes. He wore a navy blue tank with a silver chain dragon necklace. Sheathed on his back were two swords. He had a pouch strapped to his right side inside of it containing various types of tools. He wore a black fingerless glove on his right hand. The glove had a blue X on the front of them. He wore distressed blue jeans and black boots. He flipped his hair back as the crowd continued to cheer for him.
“Oh man, I get to see Fate in action,” Jayden’s voice was filled with excitement. “Hey, Blaire, he was trained by Scythe too, right?” She nodded. “So that means you two were trained by the same person. Have you two ever sparred?”
“No, my father forbids me from sparring with him.” Blaire glared at her father as he sat there on his throne. “He would only let me spar with Scythe, no else was good enough. That and he was too scared that Fate would accidentally hurt me. He is so overprotective and it’s annoying.” She bit her lip. “I’ve never seen Fate fight either. But at last, I’ll be able to see which of us is superior.”
“Next up,” Angel called out. “We have Brandon,” He gestured over to the entrance. The crowd began to cheer while he made his way onto the arena.
“Here we go,” Brandon began slowly walking into the Arena. His short brown hair was spiked back, the sides of it were shaven. He wore black leather trench coat leaving it open to flaunt his well built chest and abs. He wore two fingerless gloves with diamond studs in them. He wore a pair of distressed blue jeans and black boots. He popped his knuckles and stretched out his neck. “I’m about to whoop some ass.”
“Next we have Selene,” Angel called out. Selene walked forward as the crowd cheered for her. She was dressed in a solid black tank top and distressed blue jeans. She wore black converse shoes. She had a pouch on her left side, no doubt containing vials of her blood which acted as a deadly explosive. She brushed her shoulder length sunflower blonde hair back, her pale blue eyes focused on Angel.
“Alright I’m here,” Selene crossed her arms. “Sorry Brandon but if you go against me. You might as well count it as a loss.” She smirked. “There’s no way, I’m going to let you take my dream from me.”
“Don’t worry,” Brandon grinned. “I’ve been training a lot lately.” He tightened his hand into a fist. “So if I were you,” He punched his hand. “I wouldn’t underestimate me. Like Angel said. I’m full of surprises.” He hitched a laugh. “Today is the day that my older sister starts treating me with some respect.”
“We’ll see,” Selene fixed her hair.
“Last but not least, we have Scythe,” Angel announced. The moment his name was said Angel could tell the other competitors were uneasy. Not that he blamed them, Scythe was easily one of the deadliest members of the team. He has the most experience, the highest speed, and his intelligence is unparalleled.
“It begins,” Scythe walked onto the arena. His long black hair was tied in a ponytail. The tail of his hair reached his lower back and whisked behind him as he walked. He wore a solid black tank that had one long sleeve covering his left arm. The tank left his chiseled abs exposed. His right arm had a tattoo sleeve of a black shaded dragon swirling down his arm. On that same arm, he wore a black fingerless glove. His nails were painted a dark green color. On his back, he had four swords sheathed and in the middle of them was a katana. He had a pouch on his right side containing tools. He wore black pants and black sandals. His pale jade eyes were calm and he stood waiting patiently for the tournament to begin.
“The four of you will compete in a tournament to decide our next commander.” Angel put his hands in his pockets. “Before we begin, I’d like to first say that,” He smiled at all four of them. “I’m proud of you all and I’m grateful to have you guys serve under me no, not under, beside.” He corrected himself. “It was an honor serving as your former commander and whatever happens here in this tournament. Know that.” He paused. “I still believe in you and your abilities. No matter what happens in the present or in the future. I will always consider you my friends,” Angel forced a smile. “With that said, let’s give Lord Alexander and everyone here a good show shall we?” The crowd cheered.
“The first match will be,” Angel announced. “Brandon vs. Fate,” The two of them nodded. “I wish both of you the best of luck.” Brandon took his place on the right side of the arena, Fate took the left. “Selene, Scythe, you may report to the stands.” The two of them nodded. Just as Selene was about to leave she stopped herself.
“Don’t lose, Brandon, ” Selene glanced over at him “If anyone’s going to beat you. It’s going to be me.” She pointed at herself. “Got it?” Brandon replied with a nod. She smirked and walked over to the stands to watch their fight.
“Fate,” Scythe turned to face his student. “I’m fairly confident in your abilities.” He smiled. “Though a simple word of advice wouldn’t hurt.” He offered. “Don’t let Brandon’s size fool you.” Fate nodded. “Remember, underneath that diamond armor of his is flesh and bone.” He placed his hand on his student’s shoulder. “Flesh and bone can be cut.”
“Right,” Fate agreed, “I’ll make you proud master.” Scythe passed him a simple nod and left to the stands with Selene.
“This’ll be over quick,” Brandon threw his leather trench coat to Angel. He caught it, Brandon stood over Fate. His muscles flashed brightly being cloaked by his diamond layered skin. There was no question, height and muscle wise, Brandon had the upper hand over Fate. Still, Angel wasn’t too keen on counting Fate out just yet.
“There’s more to a fight than having the most muscle,” Fate took out one of his two swords. The sword was decorated with the small engraving of an arrow piercing a shield. The engraving had a slight glow to it once Fate held the sword. It was clear Brandon hadn’t noticed the faint glow but Angel knew that glow was more than just for show. This was another one of Scythe’s enchantments bestowed to his student. “You’ll see what I mean. Soon enough, ” He stepped forward holding his hand out. Brandon nodded and took his hand shaking it as a sign of respect. Angel could tell Brandon was gripping his hand tight but Fate didn’t flinch at all. The two of them were prepared to take each other down.
“Alright,” Angel took his shoes off, throwing them aside. He placed his bare foot between them creating a curse that would explode after a set time. Once the explosion went off, the fight would begin. “One three,” Angel glanced over at Fate. He clenched his sword. “One,” He glanced over at Brandon. He punched his hand. “Two,” The two of them glared into each other’s eyes. “Three, Begin,” Angel jumped back, the explosion went off before it could affect Angel. He jumped back into the stands.
The second Angel’s curse exploded, Brandon and Fate jumped back to avoid it. Soon after, Fate rushed in taking advantage of the smoke clouds. He slashed at Brandon but as Angel expected. Brandon’s diamond armor was too tough for his sword to cut through. Fate’s attacks were rendered useless.
“You’re finished,” Brandon went to punch him. Fate quickly waved his arm back. Once he did. Some kind of invisible shield formed knocking Brandon back using the force of his own attack against him. The impact knocked Brandon back a couple of feet. “What the hell was that?” He shook off the attack. “What was that trick you just did?” He asked, Fate grinned. “It doesn’t matter, I’ll still crush you.” He charged at Fate. Fate quickly jumped into the air as he was about to hit the ground. His feet hit some invisible wall that launched him higher into the air. “What the-,” Brandon backed up his eyes glancing up at Fate. “He can fly?!”
“Like I said,” Fate’s sword started to radiate with a light green glow. “There’s more to a fight than just muscle,” He jammed his sword into the ground. A giant burst of a green aura fired off around him blasting Brandon back.
The radius was so huge, the entire arena was turned into a giant crater. That was when Angel figured it out. Those invisible walls. They’re barriers, Fate can create various types of Barriers. From the looks of it, the more damage they absorb. The stronger they become. So, Brandon’s not the only one with a defensive ability.
The knockback force of the attack caused Brandon to tumble across the ground and crash into the wall behind him. Fate quickly spun his sword cloaking it in a faint white aura. He slammed his blade down. A clear wave of energy fired off his blade at Brandon. He blocked the straight shot, being unable to dodge it.
“I hope now,” Fate’s eyes remained focused on Brandon. “You’ll start taking me seriously.” He reached into his pouch taking out a smoke bomb,
“How did you-?” Brandon held his arms up. Even after Brandon blocked Fate’s attack. His body was covered in small bruises. His diamond armor wasn’t even damaged. It was like Fate’s attack ignored his high defense and struck him with a direct hit. “It’s that sword of yours,” Brandon’s eyes lingered on the engraving on Fate’s sword. “I get it now, it ignores defense and attacks right through it.” He popped his knuckles. “You came prepared. Good, I was hoping for a great match, Still, I got to say nice move adding paralysis to your first attack. Slow me down and go for the kill. Not bad for a healer.”

“Healer,” Fate smirked. “Let’s cut the bullshit,” He glared at Brandon. “We both know I’m better than that.” Brandon went to punch him. He blocked it with a barrier pushing Brandon back. He tossed a smoke bomb at Brandon’s feet blinding him. “Here’s another,” Fate spun, creating a horizontal version of his last attack. It didn’t do as much damage as the first but it was enough to knock Brandon back even further. However, this time, Angel took notice of a crack appearing on his blade.
“That’s it,” Brandon grinned. “There’s no point to this armor anymore. You’ll just bypass it and hit me anyway.” The diamond armor started to crack and break like it was being dispelled. -He can remove it?!- “I was saving this trick for my sister but,” Several diamond shards started to fall on the floor. “I guess since you left me no choice, I might as well.” He held some of the diamond shards in his hand. “Use it now,” He threw the huge shards of diamond at Fate.
Fate blocked them with his sword. Once he did, Brandon appeared behind him and punched him in the back. He quickly blocked using his blade by draping it on his back. The blade was cloaked in a barrier which blasted Brandon back. He then created a large barrier around him in order to give himself some distance. Brandon began running circles around Fate’s barrier waiting for an opening.
“I didn’t know, Brandon could discard his armor.” Angel rubbed his chin. “I wonder what Fate intends to do now. That armor was weighing Brandon down and without it. He’s bound to move a lot faster.” He kept his eyes focused on the fight. Fate was watching Brandon’s every move. He was formulating a strategy in the comforts of his barrier. He could still have a chance to beat Brandon.
“Come out of that barrier already,” Brandon rammed Fate’s barrier but it knocked him back. “If brute force won’t work then try this,” He threw diamond shards at the barrier. They sliced through Fate’s barrier and hit him on the shoulder. The barrier faded once Fate was hurt, Brandon rushed at him. “You’re mine now bitch,” He kept trying to punch him but. Fate kept blocking with quick barriers using them as shields. “Damn you, Fate.”
“It’s not over yet,” Fate created a giant barrier forcing Brandon all the way back against the wall. “I hope you don’t mind being crushed,” He kept forcing the barrier further past the wall. He was attempting to crush Brandon with his barrier. While he held Brandon back. The barrier began to release a blue aura targeting the inside. This aura, it was healing the wound on Fate’s shoulder. “Got to, keep it up,” Brandon kept trying to fight against the barrier trying his best to overpower it with his brute strength. “No you don’t,” He made the barrier larger forcing Brandon into the deep crater made in the wall.
“Damn it,” Brandon yelled trying to get off the wall that he was pinned to. The barrier was starting to budge slightly being overpowered. If this kept up, Brandon would force the barrier to dispel using willpower alone.
“I’ve got enough for one more,” Fate flicked his blade cloaking in a white aura. Brandon broke free of the wall and charged at him from the other side of the field. “Take this,” Fate spun around creating a massive wave of white energy which blasted Brandon back and broke his sword. Brandon tumbled across the ground, coughing up blood. “Is he down?” Brandon started laughing as blood dripped from his lip.
“Not bad,” Brandon got back on his feet. “Still, it’s going to take a lot more than that to take me down. You coward.” He smirked. “The fight’s over, you can’t keep up with me. I’m too fast for you. Face it,” He wiped the blood from his lips. “You don’t have the balls to take me down.” Angel noticed Scythe passing a nod to Fate. -What was that about?-
“That’s where you’re wrong,” Fate reached into his boots. “I’ve got plenty.” He pulled out two leg weights. The moment he dropped them to the floor. The leg weights created a small crater in the ground. “Let’s do this,” He picked up the weight with his second sword and threw it at Brandon. He threw diamond shards at the weight to block it. Wait a sec, Fate’s sword. It had a different engraving edged onto it. It was of a shield with tiny arrows pointing to it from all angles. It appeared to be absorbing something.
Fate suddenly appeared next to Brandon slicing at him at rapid speeds. Brandon kept dodging trying to counter but Fate blocked his counters with barriers. The barriers were cloaked in a sheen layer of green. That’s his strategy, Fate’s using paralysis to slow him down. Each and every time he blocked. Brandon’s attacks got slower and slower. Brandon jumped back having a huge gash on his chest from Fate’s counter attack.
“You’re really starting to piss me off,” Brandon threw diamond shards at Fate. He blocked them with his sword. Fate’s sword instantly became cloaked in layers of diamond. Does this mean that his barriers would also have a diamond effect added to them? If so, Fate just might win this fight. “Diamond but the last sword was-,” He glanced down at the broken sword. “You sneaky bastard, you brought two different ones.”
“You can never be too prepared,” Fate smirked. “Not to worry I’ll end this quickly.” He spun firing several diamond shards at Brandon. He blocked using his forearm which was starting to shine like diamonds. His armor, it’s refroming slowly but surely. Angel noticed Selene and Scythe setting a timer to see how long it takes for Brandon’s armor to regenerate. “I don’t have long, I gotta wrap this up quick.” Fate charged at Brandon. He kept slashing at him rapidly, Bradon kept blocking with his forearm using it as a shield.
The two of them appeared to be at a momentary stalemate. Fate was trying to get past Brandon’s defense. While Brandon’s trying to get past Fate’s. Neither of them were getting anywhere. They were matching each other’s moves counter for counter. During the fight, Angel glanced over at Lord Alexander who was on the edge of his seat.
“I must say Angel,” The King of the vampires grinned. “This tournament has turned out to be quite interesting. I never would have thought Fate and Brandon would grow to such potential. Both of them show such promise.” His eyes remained focused on the fight. “I’m not even sure who will win this fight. It’s a close one.”
“Yeah,” Angel agreed. “I can’t say much for Fate having just now seen his skill. However, Brandon, he’s grown quite a bit. I guess his sparring sessions with Ziek and Selene are starting to pay off. I’m proud of him.” He knew if Brandon was able to see himself now. Even his sister Selene had a slight smirk on her lips. Someone who normally would never take him seriously. She was now eager to fight him. He was dead in her sights and she would never admit it but. Selene was proud of him too. He could tell by just the smirk on her face.
“Angel,” Lord Alexander broke his attention from the fight. “There’s a reason I called you to sit with me.” He glanced over at him. “In the short moments of leadership I’ve given you,” He smiled. “You brought something that I’ve haven’t seen in centuries. I just wanted to say I’m proud of you, son.” He placed his hand on Angel’s shoulder. He didn’t know what to say. Lord Alexander thought of him as a son. He’s finally accepting him. Does this mean that Blaire could no longer hurt him. No. it’s more than that. Angel could feel it, his whole world was about to change and soon.
“You’re not naive like the others,” Lord Alexander pointed out. “This war, once, it starts up again. I’m sure you know my intentions.” It’s not hard to guess, Angel knew. He just never wanted it to come to that.
“Self Sacrifice,” Angel forced the answer. He never wanted to say it. Lord Alexander is a beloved King. He’d do anything to protect his people. His people were dying and if something wasn’t done to stop the war. He’d have no people left to rule over. His options were slim and the only one that made sense was for him to die for his people. It was the only way they had any chance of winning and breaking the deadlock. “Does it have to go that far?” He asked. “Do you really have to die for us?”
“I’ve considered my options.” Lord Alexander replied. “Scythe even tried to convince me to change my mind. Still, he’s a tactician first and my best friend second.” He smiled as he watched Brandon and Fate’s fight. “When I brought the decision to him. He was sad and hurt but in the end. Scythe told me it was our best chance of success.” Angel gripped the bars of the stand tightly. It wasn’t right, he shouldn’t have to die. “I’m not afraid to die for my people,” He placed his arm on Angel’s shoulder. “I’m afraid of leaving my people without a proper heir. I thought my daughter was to be that heir but. I’m starting to see that she’s no longer herself.”
“I don’t understand,” Angel rested his arms on the bars. “I’m not your son, I’m not anything special. I’m just like everyone else, so,” He took a deep breath. “Why are you choosing to tell me all this?”
Deep down, Angel knew Lord Alexander’s reasons. He knew what the king of the vampires wanted. He wanted Angel to be his heir, the next king. The person that would take his place on the throne but if he accepted it. He would lose Raven. He couldn’t lose her again, not for a crown, a throne, a life as a respected King. No, he’d rather have her. She’s worth far more than any of that. She’s everything.
“What if I told you I didn’t want it,” Angel spoke calmly. His words caught Lord Alexander’s attention. “Would you force me?” He asked as his eyes watched Brandon and Fate’s fight. The two of them were still matching each other’s moves.
“It’s because you don’t want it,” Lord Alexander smirked. “That’s what makes you the perfect heir. You can’t abuse power that you have no desire to use.” He tightly gripped Angel’s shoulder. “You and I both know, if you don’t take it. Blaire will lead the castle to ruin. I can’t trust her with an entire kingdom. That’s why it must fall on you.” He smiled. “Son.” He patted Angel’s shoulder and resumed watching Brandon and Fate’s fight.
Angel started to notice as Fate was fighting Brandon. His diamond cloaked sword was starting to crack. That explains why Fate was so eager to finish Brandon off quickly. The sword couldn’t withstand the power boost for a long duration. It was either he finished the fight now or it was over. However Brandon was never the type to go down easy.
“Give up already.” Fate tried to cut Brandon. “Damn it,” Fate exclaimed as his attack was once again blocked by Brandon. Both of Brandon’s arms were now fully covered in diamond. His diamond armor was beginning to spread to his chest and abs. Once Brandon got his armor back, it was going to be difficult for Fate to do any real damage to him.
“Gotcha,” Brandon tried to grab Fate’s shirt. He slid between Brandon’s legs getting behind him. Fate tried to slash his back but Brandon caught the blade. The diamond on the blade spiked stabbing Brandon’s hand. Fate blasted Brandon back with a diamond cloaked barrier. After the impact, several shards of diamond fell on the floor. “Damn you,” Brandon ran at Fate trying to strike him. Fate did a front flip over him. He tried to hit Fate while his back was facing him. Fate quickly did a backflip curling into a ball in mid air. His sword began to gather up energy.
“I’ve only got one shot,” Fate landed on the ground slamming his sword down. A straight shot of diamond shards flew at Brandon pelting him relentlessly. Brandon blocked the attack, his armor now fully restored. He screamed running through the barrage of shards while blocking them. “Well shit,” Brandon struck Fate with a shoulder tackle. The impact was so great he bounced off the wall and hit the floor. “That hurt,” He started coughing up blood as his sword laid on the floor in pieces.
“Just Give up,” Brandon smirked. “You’ve got no sword.” He pointed out. “A swordsman fighting without a sword now that’s just embarrassing to watch.” He laughed as Fate kept trying to get back up. “Just stay down, bro, you lost.”
“No,” Fate forced himself to get back on his feet. He cloaked his hand with a light blue aura placing it on his ribs. This aura, it wasn’t the same color as your average healing. It had a lighter tint like white was mixed into it. “I’m not,” He reached into his pouch. Brandon started to run at him with one more attack. “Finished yet,” He threw three kunai at Brandon. They were all cloaked in a barrier which hit Brandon with powerful knockback force. The attack itself was weak, dealing no damage at all to Brandon’s armor.
“I see your game,” Brandon’s feet skidded back after he endured the hit. “You’re trying to bide your time so you can heal up.” He smirked. “Not going to work, this fight is over.” He ran at Fate full speed.
“Why don’t you,” Fate took out three more Kunai. “Stay the fuck back,” He hurled them at Brandon. Brandon punched the barriers, knocking all three kunais back. “Finally,” Fate smirked. Brandon kept rushing toward him. “Now to create some distance,” He shot Brandon back with a quick barrier forcing him to the other side of the arena.“Not much time,” The barrier that kept Brandon at a distance faded. Once it was gone, Brandon rushed toward him. “I never thought I’d have to use this, but, guess I have no choice.” Fate sat Indian style on the floor. He shut his eyes and began meditating.
The moment Fate did, a huge sky blue dragon appeared. Its eyes were shut as if it too were meditating. Its large snake-like tail was wrapped around him, shielding him from harm. The beast's hands hovered over Fate as if it was drawing energy from him. Its wings wrapped around shielding Fate further. Suddenly, Angel began to see a giant barrier starting to form around Fate while he meditated. This barrier, it’s going to unleash all the force that’s been absorbed throughout the fight and bounce it back at Brandon. That was more than enough damage to shatter Brandon’s armor and secure the win.
In fact, Angel was sure the entire arena would be left in shambles, an attack of that caliber would have to be blocked by Lord Alexander himself. This attack not only protected Fate so he could gather energy. No, there was much more to it. This dragon that was summoned by Fate, it was more than just for show. It became clear the moment it’s large mouth opened. A swarm of white serpent-like dragons rushed out gathering around Fate’s barrier. Almost like they too were protecting Fate from Brandon’s attacks.
“Fate is a remarkable one is he not?” Lord Alexander stated. Angel glanced over at him. “Before he was turned, Fate belonged to the Human Faction. He was one the very few humans that could use spiritual energy. He learned how to wield this power and use it as an extra energy source. In doing so, he quickly became one of their strongest.” He grinned. “In most cases, the transition from human to vampire diminishes all spiritual energy. Since Fate had so much spiritual energy stored up inside him. This was not the case, it merely weakened it.” Lord Alexander explained. “ This dragon you see before you.” His eyes remained on the dragon. “It feeds on Fate’s spiritual energy. By doing so, it’s able to protect him while Fate charges his barriers. Quite the defensive technique, I’d expect no less from Scythe’s shield.”
“What the fuck is all this,” Brandon watched as the entire arena started to shake from all the energy Fate was gathering. “Oh, hell, no, I’m about to put a stop to this shit right now.” He punched his chest, his armor shattered becoming sharp diamond shards. “Take this,” He hurled all of his armor at Fate. The small dragons reacted to Brandon’s. They dove into the diamond shards blocking them like human shields. The large dragon’s eyes opened and the small dragon’s were restored instantly. As a result, the massive barrier around Fate grew bigger. “What the-,” He balled his hand into a fist. “I better wrap this up quickly.” He ran toward Fate but the small dragons charged at him. “Out of my way,” He punched one of the dragons, it dispelled and the large dragon instantly restored it. “Shit,”
The barrier around Fate increased in size. Every time Brandon defeated one of the smaller white dragons. The large dragon fed Fate more energy. He couldn’t kill them, the more he killed, the faster Fate was able to charge up for his ultimate barrier. The only way Brandon was going to be able to get out of this situation is. He had to dodge them. Not only that, one of the small white dragons opened its mouth revealing a green aura on its fangs. There was so much paralysis on its fangs that one bite would render Brandon useless. This wasn’t going to be easy.
“Alright, let’s do this, ” Brandon dodged as two of the small dragons tried to bite him. After the hit, they dispelled only to be restored again by the large dragon. However, this time, Fate’s barrier didn’t grow in size. “So, that’s the trick huh,” He kept dodging the dragons who were keeping him away from Fate. “Damn you Fate,” He charged at Fate, dodging the dragons at the same time. “When I get over there, you’re so dead.”
“Now,” Fate’s eyes shot open. In that instant, all of the small dragons went out to attack Brandon at the same time. Brandon dodged at the last second using the explosion from the attack to blast himself in Fate’s direction. Fate absorbed the large sky blue dragon into his right hand as well as the barrier that was around him. “This ends now,” Fate went to open his hand and unleash his most powerful barrier. Before he could, Brandon caught his hand forcing it into a fist. “Damn it,” Fate kept trying to open his hand and release the barrier but Brandon wouldn’t let him.
“No, I won’t let you use that on me,” Brandon crushed Fate’s fist. Fate kept trying to force his hand open. “No, I won’t let you.” Fate held one finger to his side, one of the small white dragons emerged sinking its razor sharp claws into Brandon’s shoulder. “Ou, Damn it,” The dragon opened its mouth and bit down on the side of his neck. The paralysis that cloaked its claws and fangs entered Brandon’s body weakening him. “Damn you, Fate, I said-,” Fate held a second finger out to his side. “Ahhh,” Brandon screamed as another small dragon lodged its fangs into his ankle tearing at the skin. Its claws were jammed deep into his ankle. More Paralysis entered his body. “Fuck me, ah, it hurts, it hurts,”
“Then let go,” Fate held a third finger to his side. A third small dragon appeared biting the other side of Brandon’s neck. It claws sunk into his shoulder adding more paralysis. Brandon was fighting just to stand. “Last chance, Brandon, let go of my hand. Or, I’ll make you.” Fate warned. Brandon shook his head. “You asked for it,” He held a fourth to his side. A fourth small dragon appeared it’s serpent tail wrapped the arm Brandon was using to keep Fate’s hand shut. “It’s over,” Brandon let out a loud scream as the dragon bit down on his arm, sinking its claws into his flesh. Brandon shook his head trying to fight the pain. His hand was starting to let go of Fate’s hand and once that happened the fight was over.
“I said,”Brandon threw his head back. “No,” He hit Fate in the face with a powerful headbutt. The dragons released Brandon, Fate’s body fell to the floor unconscious. Brandon dropped to his knees as blood dripped down both sides of his neck, his right ankle was torn up and his arm was bleeding out. “Take that bitch, Take tha-,” He fell face first on the floor. His body finally being taken down by the paralysis. “I’m okay, I’m okay,” He tried to get up but fell back down and tried to get back up. “I’m good,” Brandon rose to his feet. “I’m good, just bleeding because of this fucker.” He pointed at Fate. “Fuck you, Fate, Fuck you and your dragons.”
“The fight’s over,” Angel let out a deep sigh. “Guess that means I’m up,” He jumped down from the stands landing next to Brandon. “The winner is,” He grabbed Brandon’s arm. “Brandon,” Angel held his arm up as the crowd cheered him on. “Nice work,” Angel patted his shoulder. “You really pulled through.”
“Yeah, I really did, I fucking hate that guy. You saw what his dragon’s did to me, they bit me, four times. Like once wasn’t enough and their claws, fuck em. Just fuck em. ” He fell over clenching his leg. “That shit hurts,” He powered through the pain. “Still,” Brandon’s eyes lingered on Fate. He was surrounded by healers who were prepared to take him away. “The bastard didn’t make it easy for me.” He smirked. “Well, I’ll be damned,” Fate’s hands started to twitch slightly. “He’s still moving,” Fate held up his hand to stop the healers from treating his wounds. “You know what for a healer,” He took Fate’s hand and helped him to his feet. “You sure know how to take a hit, and,” Brandon punched Fate’s shoulder. “What the fuck is wrong with you?” He yelled. “You can’t send those dragons out to bite me like that. That’s messed up, you lost man. You should have just accepted it.”
“Yeah well,” Fate kept rubbing his forehead. “It’s not like you left me a choice.” He groaned. “Damn, my head hurts, a head butt really.” The healers went to treat him. “It’s okay guys, I can take care of it.” He cloaked his hand in a blue aura mending his wounds. “Honestly, It’s been awhile since I had to push myself like that. Though,” He laughed. “I can’t say I’m surprised.” He lightly punched Brandon’s arm. “Good match,” Fate held his hand out to Brandon.
“You’ve got skills,” Brandon shook his hand. “When I first looked at you. I was like there’s no way this guy can hurt me. But, you proved me wrong.” He clenched his stomach. “Those barrier attacks of yours are brutal. I can’t believe you tried to crush me with them. That last barrier tho, if you would’ve landed that. You would have won.” Fate chuckled. “I saw all that energy gather up around you. I was like damn then,” He laughed. “There was that huge dragon thing,” He gestured. “I don’t even know how you did it,” He stressed. “But you did it.” He placed his hand on Fate’s shoulder. “Those small white dragons, bro, bro,” He shook his head. “Those little fuckers bite hard. Their claws are like sharp fish hooks they get caught in your skin and they won’t come out. It fucking hurts,” He complained. “I never knew you could do stuff like that. ” He added. “That move was pretty bad ass, I’ll give it that. ” Fate busted out laughing.
“It was all a desperate attempt to turn the fight around.” Fate placed his hand on Brandon’s shoulder. “Come on, let’s get you healed up.” He went to take Brandon to the medical ward. However, Brandon stopped him, his eyes gazing up at Selene. “Oh right, your sister’s fight is next. Come on, I’ll heal you on the stands so you can watch.” He draped Brandon’s arm on his shoulder and walked toward the stands. While they were walking, Selene and Scythe walked past them.
“Don’t lose Selene,” Brandon grinned. “I wanna be the one to take you down.” Selene flashed a slight smirk and continued on to the arena.
“Sorry,” Fate lowered his head to Scythe. “I lost.”
“No worries.” Scythe smiled at him. “Winning and Losing are just factors. The important thing is how you carry yourself after the loss. Learn from it and strive to be better.” He encouraged him. “I’m very proud of you Fate.” He walked past him.
