Kai Ren, a 14-year-old boy, was seen standing at the cliff's edge. His face remained calm and composed even at the sight that would cause many to shiver and have nightmares for years.
His dark brown eyes looked at the abyss before him, the gaze of his dark brown eyes was so deep that it betrayed his age.
His facial features were so ordinary, they would blend in the crowd without anyone noticing. As the air ruffled his black hair, he sighed and muttered.
"I am sorry, Mother, I couldn't fulfill my promise and keep Mei-Mei safe. She was the last thing that was keeping me sane, and now that she is gone, I can't even avenge her."
As he lamented not being able to protect his sister, he felt immense sadness well up in his heart and said, "What's the point in living anymore?"
With one deep breath, he decided to end his miserable life, but he had just taken half a step into the abyss when the weather, which had been completely clear and calm a few moments ago, changed.
Dark and omnipresent thunderclouds started gathering in the sky. Looking at the strange view in front of him, Kai Ren halted his steps.
Just as he pondered what was happening, a sudden thunderbolt struck him. The instant the thunderbolt made contact with him, his life replayed before his eyes.
Memories of his loving and gentle mother and his cute little sister flashed before his eyes, and a single tear tried to form, but by this time, the thunder had already enveloped his entire body.
As he closed his eyes and waited for his eventual death, Kai Ren suddenly felt comfortable. "Is this how the afterlife feels?" he thought to himself.
As he was still pondering this, a celestial voice sounded in his mind,
"Open your eyes, child, as you are not dead yet."
Although the thunder was still surrounding him and the pleasant feeling was still there, when he heard the words Kai Ren, his eyes immediately shot open, and to his surprise, he was, in fact, not even slightly injured.
"Who are you? And what is this feeling? What is happening to me?" he asked in his mind without stopping. He felt like he was dreaming and would wake up in a second.
"My name is Azarion. As for what you are feeling, in simple terms, your talent is being enhanced to the limit of what a mortal could achieve. And to answer your last question, you have been chosen as my fate to be a candidate in my quest for death."

The same celestial voice boomed in his head again, surprising him as he was sure it was his imagination or some weird dream. So, he decided to pinch himself to test his theory, and indeed he felt the pain.
Still, he tried to compose himself and asked uncertainly,
"My talent is getting enhanced? How? And what does being chosen in your quest for death mean? In fact, if you want to die so badly, can’t you just commit suicide?"
Kai Ren's mind was quiet for a moment, making him think it was all in his imagination. However, he heard a voice say,
"Yes, I used one of my treasures to boost your talent. Fate has chosen you for my quest, which I've been trying to complete for a hundred million years. And about your last question, don't worry about it. You're not strong enough to do anything, even if you knew."
Kai Ren went silent after hearing that, thinking about what he heard and what was happening.
If he was honest with himself, he believed he was going insane after the death of his sister.
But even after that, he still clung to the hope that was shown in front of him. Hope to avenge his sister and hope to be able to face his mother in the afterlife.
He asked again in his mind with a confused tone, "Why me? There are countless strong cultivators out there; you could have chosen any of them, and what if I refuse to help you in your quest?"
"Child, I did not choose you; fate did. And even as strong and knowledgeable as I am, I still don't know much about the mysteries of fate."
Azarion explained to him the reason why he was chosen.
"As for why I didn't choose any of the existing strong cultivators, the reason is simple: to reach my level, you need a perfect foundation, and none of them have that."
"That's why I chose you. As for you refusing to help me, that's too far in the future to worry about. Millions have been chosen before you and tried to reach my level, but they all failed over time."
"Even so, the only way to refuse me is to give up on the path of cultivation because if you want to reach the top of it, you will have to face me, as there can never be two lions in a single mountain."
Hearing this, Kai Ren started to ponder on what just transpired, and soon came to realize that in order to avenge his sister, he needed strength, and if he can get that strength by just giving a promise to Azarion then why not?
As he thought of this, his initial hope of getting revenge for his sister got even stronger and he said with a determined voice "Very well, elder, I promise I will try my very best to help you achieve your goal, but I have been meaning to ask, how are you going to help me?"
Kai Ren’s feelings were really complicated at the moment. Sometimes, he felt like he had gone insane, and others times, he felt like a strong cultivator was playing with him.
Regardless of the scenario, the truth was that he could do nothing about it but hope for the best.
"I won't help you much in your journey, as if I did, you would never be able to cultivate a will strong enough to face me. All I will do is provide you with guidance at critical junctures and cultivation techniques necessary to have an absolutely flawless foundation." Azarion explained.
"Now prepare yourself, as I will impart your first cultivation technique to you."
