With my lv 20 equipment in bag, I am now heading toward the class up NPC. Our lv 20 equipment are made with more effort compared to the previous ones, we were also given a choice of which part we would like to enhance +3. I chose the chest armor, because i would get more hits on the armor during lv20-30.

I can’t wear the equipment yet because it’s guard exclusive equipment. So, I’m still in my un-matching leveled equipment.
Eventually, I reached the trainer NPC who is a guy with full set of heavy armor folding his arm in front of his chest.
Stone: “class advancement, confirm”
[(NPC) Master Guard]: Young adventurer! You have chosen the path of guard! But before you walk your journey in the path of guard, you must take a test to prove your competence! Do you accept?
You will be transported to a special training room. If you fail in the test or log out during the test you will be sent back and have to take the test again! Please confirm
Stone: “confirm”
My vision is slowly filled with blinding streaks of light.
The light slowly unravels in the same manner of streaks. The same NPC is in front of me, but the surrounding became pitch black with a 10 meters in diameter spotlight shot toward the NPC and me.
During the test, the players temporarily became their chosen profession, so I can equip my lv 20 equipment now.
Master Guard: “You are to perform a guard only skill “aura”, watch as I do it and imitate!”
As the master guard activated aura, a green half-sphere layer surrounded him it enlarges rapidly until I’m within the range of his aura.
As I entered into his aura, information seeps into my brain. It is the information of how to use the aura.
You have gained the skill “Guard's Aura”
Guard's Aura (Level 1)DescriptionBy releasing the aura unique to guard's you are able to aid yourself and your team-mates! You could also transfer some damage on your team-mate onto yourself!
Maximum Defense Increase: 50%
Maximum Health Increase: 50%
Maximum Damage Transition: 30%
Diameter Range: 1m-5m
Maximum Mana Consumption: 40 MP/sNext Level Requirement27
I’ve already passed the guard test and as such, know how to use aura. I did the same thing as the guard did and passed the first test easily. It feels like having some kind of new sense, I could stretch, expand, thicken or thin it. It just needs a bit of concentration and imagination.
You have passed the first test!
Master Guard: “You have correctly performed “aura”. The next test is a test of survival! I wish you luck, adventurer”
The Master Guard fades into nothingness. Urgh, I was so excited when I had finally able to use aura in beta test. Where did my innocence go?
Anyway, the next part of the test is survival test. Let’s get this over with.
Out of the darkness, a few monsters fade into existence. They are short green ugly abominations, goblins. They approach me warily, a dagger on their hand. At the same time, a notification pops up
Use your aura to protect the villager for 5 minutes!
As the notification pops up, sobbing sounds came from right behind me. I didn’t turn to look at her though. Her being there is already as expected.
I activated the aura and spread it until it engulfs the villager. I could feel objects and movements inside the aura. It’s very useful to counter sneak attack. I activated the aura’s quirk to absorb damage done to the villager by 30%, increase Health and Defense by 20%.
After casting [provoke] the goblins chased after me. One of them passed by me and run to the villager. It’s the game mechanics, I can’t provoke it and if I block its path one of the other goblins will attack her.
Another game mechanic in play is that the goblins are immune to damage, so I can only block their attack for the whole duration of 5 minutes.
The goblins attack to the villager will have 30% of its damage reduced and that 30% of damage is transferred onto my shield. By my rough calculation, the villager will end up with 20% HP remaining by the time 5 minutes ends.
Maintaining the aura along with the 2 quirks consciously over a long time is not that easy. You would actually need to stay focused to do it. During beta test I failed this test once.
You have passed the second test!
All of my mana and health are replenished.
Along with the notification, the NPC guard voice resounds inside the pitch black room.
Master Guard: “Congratulations young adventurer. You have one last test before you become a guard.”
I idly notice that the way he makes the job “guard” sounds grand is weird considering the job name is so lame.
Stand in the center and survive for 10 minutes
I walked to the center of the spotlight, small circle appear beneath my feet. Its diameter is about 1 meter. If I step out of the circle, the timer resets.
A humanoid creature fades into existence. Its huge, has muscular body and it’s hairy. It’s a gorilla.
I failed this test 3 times during beta test; the problem is that my mana is not enough to fully empower the aura for the whole duration of the test. I tried some of the tanking technique to reduce damage so that I would survive longer while keeping up the aura moderately but it failed. I ended up thinking that I should’ve taken a few wisdom, but sacrificing vit for wis would just decrease my overall defense.
Because that’s not how to go about it
Currently the Gorilla is charging toward me and I’m not activating my aura. When it is close to me it lifts its axe high and I prepared to meet the hit with my shield and parry the strike. When it’s swung down, I activated the aura in a sudden manner to the maximum defense output which is 50% health and 50% defense.
It’s like flexing your muscle suddenly, but the suddenness in aura activating won’t make it mana inefficient. When it finished its attack, I inactivate the aura again. The Minotaur’s attacks are very slow. It’s a perfect practice for someone new to this, although this technique is mostly unused in reality.
Anyway, the Minotaur did about 0.5% damage to my health. That’s how OP someone is in defense when you focus in it, my racial bonus helps too. My HP regeneration is at 1% every 10 second, so my health is still slowly decreasing over time.
Out of boredom, I tried to predict how much HP my health would be left after 10 minutes. The Minotaur attack hits once about every 4 seconds with 0.5% damage in average. So, that means 10*60*0.5%/4 = 75% of total damage? And 10*60*1%/10 = 60% total regeneration. That’s 15% net damage and would mean i would have about 85% remaining when 10 minutes are over.
Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
……..And so it’s 83% HP left after 10 minutes.
You have passed the third test!
Master guard reappears.
Master Guard: “I congratulate you for finishing the test! I wish that you become someone who protects Azalta in the future”
You have gained the class “Guard”
I disappeared in streaks of light.
Target of the day: accomplished.
Having a class won’t give a bonus status. The things that make differences between classes are the skills that the class unlocks, also class restricted equipment.
I spent my SP on the newly available skills, Blocking stance and stomp.
Blocking Stance (Level 1)DescriptionBy sacrificing your means of attack and your movement speed, you will have extra defense
Movement Speed -50%
Defense +50%
MP consumption: 50 MP/sNext Level Requirement 28
Stomp (Level 1)DescriptionStomp your enemies under your feet!
For skill casting time duration:
Movement Speed +50%
VIT +20%
MP Consumption: 50 MP
Cool Down: 10 secondsNext Level Requirement 29
I took a peek at the time. It’s 10 and I planned to sleep at 11 like I usually do, so I have some free time.
I don’t want to do more hunt though. I feel like I would burnout if I hunt anymore today plus we need to regroup all six of us first considering the next planned hunting spot.
So I wisped for anyone that had taken class up to come to the village center.
And here I am in the village center with Rando and Saturn, the rest are still doing the test. We’re going to PVP!
There’s a lot of people still online around, the server include people of all around the world so some of them probably had just woke up in their country. If the starter town isn’t limited to this village, it would be so crowded that you won’t be able to move to a hunting ground after logging in.
Rando challenged you to a duel! Do you accept?Details:
Compensation ON: Your level, stat, skill and equipment will be equalized
Stake : -
Stone: “yes”
When a duel starts a ring of light shot up from the ground around the dueling player, other player won’t be able to interfere the duel even if they are inside the ring.
We could just do it in an arena if we wanted to, but it’s more fun this way.
The crowd of spectator won’t actually bother us anyway. “Ultimate Heroes” is a VRMMORPG where we actually play with our body. The players are naturally more ethical than a usual PC RPG. And PC RPGs don’t even have that many “brats” anyway.
Instead, some of them are currently surrounding the duel circle right outside the perimeter, intent in watching us.
It’s the effect of our equipment, those crafters made it fancy.
Anyway, a 3…..2…...1 counter shows up in the middle of the ring. We took our stances.
I’m slouching and held my mace high up. The only attack that would work with my vit build is a downward swinging, that’s why the weird stance.
Cat-Thieves are very incompatible to fight against a golem-tanker. Their attacks are slashing type that aims toward vital area, but the only thing called a vital area in a golem is the golem core that is located at the heart in humans. My core is hidden beneath my new lv 20 guard armor that had extra defense right at that area. Even if he attacks the armor gaps, my body is made of stone, 50% immune to slashing and piercing although twice vulnerable against blunt damage. My eyes are just hollow holes so it doesn’t count as a vital area.
This fight is already my win…. Or is it?
Rando: “[Spirit Boost]”
Stone: “[Guard’s aura], [Blocking stance]”
Rando shot toward me in a breakneck speed, his build is the type to be the fastest thing in the game with 50% strength and 50% dexterity. Especially during [Spirit Boost], I won’t be able to hit him at all during the buff duration so I used [Blocking Stance].
Thankfully, [Spirit Boost] is a short term, long cool down kind of buff. I just need to defend for the duration. As I defend desperately, Rando hacked at the gaps of my armors. Although it’s reduced to half by my racial feature and more by [Blocking stance] and [Guard’s Aura], it’s still some damage. I kept at holding my shield waiting for my chance.
Rando backed down right before [Spirit Boost] is over. I deactivate [Blocking Stance] and prepared for a counter attack.
Rando dashed to me and attacked toward my face, I held up my shield while trying to bash it onto him. I didn’t feel the impact on my shield and instead, he hit my knee. It’s a feint. He quickly back before I could hit him with my mace.
After that he kept on attacking me and I kept at trying to counter him. doing a shield stance will only make me vulnerable as I can’t counter attack, doing shield charge from this far would only get me countered. Stomp only damage anything beneath my feet. The only thing I could do is to attack him normally.
When I thought he is aiming up he attacks below, when I thought its left, its right, when I thought it’s a feint, it’s not. He’s so good at predicting that it actually made me look like the one beaten up. His attacks are mostly ineffective though, I still have about 60% of HP. Some of his skill that hit me in the armor gaps cost me about 10% damage.
Until eventually, my shield bash hit him and made him stagger. Gotcha! *evil smile*
[Shield charge] I run toward the duel circle while carrying him on the shield and made him hit it. He rebound on the duel circle (The duel circle acts as a wall).
Bash, bash, kick and he fell down.
[Stomp] he managed to avoid my feet hitting his head but I hit his stomach.
Step-step-kick-step but he eventually managed to escape my combo.
His posture is still bad right after escaping though. [Shield charge], bash him on a wall and repeat the combo. repeat, repeat, repeat
You win!
Oh don’t mind us. We’re already used to violence.
Rando: “I win, because you have less than 60% HP XP”
I smiled wryly. Can’t deny that, because that’s how OP a tanker is against thief, at least in this game.
We did more duels after that with other members joining in. One of the crowds sometimes did a duel against us too. I kept dueling until I went log off to sleep.
Before logging off, we got into a coach that travels to the second town.
At 11 p.m. I logged out to sleep. Because sleep is important!
