A/N : Later updates would be slow. I'm still much inexperienced as a writer.
_________________________________________________________________
Let me introduce you to myself.
My real life name is Jimmy. I am an average guy with 170 cm height black unkempt hair and black eyes.
I’m one of the three founding members of the guild, although it’s not a guild yet for now.
As stated before, my character is a stone golem. My skin is stone white with a few cracks here and there and I have a hole for my eye. My posture is pretty much the same as my human self: 170 cm height, black hair and black eyes.
The point is, I’m not that similar to a certain member of the fantastic four you might be imagining now.
After picking the warrior class, I am now in a full body heavy armor set with helm and all.
My stats are fully spent to vit right now, my skills include [Hardened skin] and [nature’s blessing] that increase my defense and regeneration depending on the environment for the passive skills.
My active skills include [shield charge] at level 1 just to aid movement and [provoke].
In this game ”Ultimate Heroes”, tankers are well associated with weight. The vit stat gives weight and my armors also make me heavy although it won’t hinder in normal movement, it just makes me harder to be moved.
Now, back to the game! As of right now, we are heading to a cave dungeon. It’s a normal cave on the outside, but that’s not what it is in an MMORPG of course.
You have entered brown bear’s cave
Brown bear is a 2.5 m height lv 10 monster. It attacks with its claws and occasionally fangs.
Pudding: “[Meditation], [Blessings]”
After being buffed, I lured one of them with [provoke] and it started chasing after me. When, it’s close enough I went back a bit, just in range where its scratch would reach me because if back any further, it’d take another step to give a cleaner hit.
The claws scratched my shield as I move back. Slashing attacks are very ineffective against tanker if it’s not hitting on your armor gaps and as it only grazed my shield, it gave me a much lowered damage. Its one attack was returned with 1 huge swing of an axe, 1 dagger stab on its eyes, and an arrow in its other eye also a fireball to its mouth when it starts roaring. It had about a third of its HP gone.
The bear wont attack anyone but me due to [provoke] and its low intelligence. It now, has impaired vision and numbed arm caused by Rick’s axe that gives me easier time in tanking. The monsters has some kind of primal instinct that tells them a general direction of their enemies though, so it’s still desperately attacking on my general direction even with no eyes. Despite that, the fight became much easier; I continued tanking it while the others attack, aiming on its head and the bear eventually died.
All in all, I lost 25% of my HP, but 5% had already regenerated during the fight due to the stone cave accelerating my regeneration rate. Supposedly, this is where pudding would heal me but I stopped her because it’s still fine. Mage’s mana is really important after all.
After 3 more bears my HP that should’ve been at 23% filled back to full because we leveled up, we are now level 6. It seems like pudding doesn’t have her role right now. She’s kind of pouting.
You might notice the lack of conversation. We aren’t really the type of people that talks a lot, at least during fights.
We went at it for 3 more levels. As it turned out, the mages only used leveling up to refill their mana and we haven’t used any of the prepared potion.
And we were even supposed to take a rest and eat while letting them regenerate at one point. At this rate, I’m worried that we wouldn’t have a spare time to eat.
I was relieved when they ran out of MP on at level 10. To reach level 11 we would need to kill about 70 bears and they ran out of MP at about the 40-something. We stopped to rest and eat. I’m famished! This is behind the schedule! Today’s menu is smoked wolf and bear meat.
Stone: “We really should’ve just eaten when it was lunch time.”
Rick: “We’re only about 2 hours late though?”
Pudding: “Right? We wouldn’t want to waste potions too.”
Rando: “But we would’ve already been on the lower floor had we followed the schedule though. “
The game’s food are very tasty, the devs knows that us players generally can’t cook, so they made foods to have taste even without seasoning.
Lena: “slow down, you’ll choke.”
Stone: *choke* X(
Lena: =_=”
Like that, the idle chat continues.
After that we went to the lower floor, this cave has two levels. This floor is filled with lv13 guard bear that has a helmet and lv15 big bear that is half meter taller. They have the same attack pattern though, so we bulldozed them until we reach lv13
We collect the loot and equipped anything that dropped by the bears in accordance to our class.
Now then, time for our real purpose in coming here…
After some walk we reached a big grey door that is the only man-made structure inside this cave, it still fit the cave well though. Behind this door is a lv 15 boss monster “the supreme-bear”. We checked our health and mana and spent the newly given stat points. And prepared health and mana potion in a way we could easily reach.
I opened the door after pudding finished with buffing all of us. The others are following closely behind me. Inside is a huge bear, sleeping peacefully. The sound of the door opening awoke it. There’s a blue notification on top of its head.
[Boss]Supreme Bear lv 15
As the supreme bear awaken and looked at us warily we got into position circling the bear.
I walked straight slowly, the others broke into a light jog except Rick that sprints to reach our planned position.
From the bear’s perspective, I’m at 12 o’clock, Rando the dagger rogue at 2, Saturn the bow rogue at 4, Rick the axe warrior at 6, Lena the DPS mage at 8 and pudding the support mage at 10.
While we are getting into position, I slowly walk to his front with a slouched position preparing for its strike. By the time we’re all in position, the supreme bear had stood tall at 3.5 meters looking down on us.
[Provoke]
Along my skill, the bear roared which begin our fight.
At the same time as my provoke, Saturn and Lena started a barrage of arrows and fireballs.
With the same trick as with the other bear, the supreme bear scratched my shield that lost me about 20% of my HP which was quickly healed. The same attack only dealt around 6-8% by normal bear when I was level 5. At my current level 13, it would only decrease my HP by less than 2%.
If it as much as scratch someone other than me, they would die in 1 hit, other than rick the minotaur that could probably take 2 hits with the right technique.
This novel is published on a different platform. Support the original author by finding the official source.
By the time the bear is done with its attacking motion, Rick is right behind it with his axe held out to his back. He bashed the bear’s side with a half circle swing that caused the bear to roar in anger. The bear did a back kick aiming for Rick that was closely avoided.
[Provoke]
Bear: “Grrrr…”
The bear lift its claws, prompting me to back away to receive it. But the strike did not come! The bear takes another step. It sent a straight punch to give me a cleaner damage, the previous motion was a faint!
My current posture won’t allow me to make another step back so I decided to just try to minimize the damage. Stepping a bit to the right, I meet its punch to my shield. I shift my weight a bit and direct its punch to my left. I parried its punch with my shield, but it cost me 40% of my health.
While It did struck me hard while exploiting a faint, it shows how focused it is to me, which is the cue to start plan 1.
[Blind]
Pudding cast a flash of light right in front of the bears eyes. We waited until lv13 especially so that she could take the skill. It panicked and did a random claw at my previous general location. It won’t find me there though, as I was already beyond its hitting range.
[Back stab]
Rando struck his dagger right into its eyes; he gave a damage bonus for hitting the enemy where it didn’t expect it although he technically struck from the front.
During the occasion, I gulped a health potion which brings my health to 75%.
Stone: “second round start :9”
With all the continuous barrage and 1 axe swing and 1 stab, it only had its HP down by 15% while if I die, it’s pretty much party wipe, but this is a good pace.
Pudding and Rando broke into a run to switch place, their path protected by me. Now, well just need to repeat that and take its second eye.
With its loss of depth perception, tanking became a bit easier. But it became wary of Rando, so much that I had to [provoke] it 3 times so it sent its focus back on me. Eventually, Rando found an opening to stab into its healthy eye.
By the time it lost its second eye, it is down to 70% HP while mine at 45% even after heals and potion. For now, my part is done I back away from the fight, Rando takes over agro and avoided all of the bear’s strikes, pudding focus on healing me, the magic and arrow barrage slows down so that agro is kept by Rando and Rick steals some hit time by time.
Eventually, the bear is down to 30% HP and activated a certain mechanic. It is now engulfed in a red aura. Everyone backed away and I re-join the fight. A notification pops up on top of it's head.
-Enrage- 50% more damage and attack speed, 20% less defense
[Provoke]
Even with both of its eyes stabbed and blind. The bear right now is moving on a heightened instinct. The previous time Rando aggroed a raged monster during beta test, he couldn’t keep up with its movements even if he could before its rage so we decided that I’ll take back agro when it became enraged.
Right now, the bear has a lot of burn mark, about 50 stuck arrows, huge slash marks with blood seething out of it, and tears of blood. It dashing to me on all fours.
Stone: “Oy Rick, shouldn’t you have slashed off one of its hands?”
Rick: “Hey, not everything always goes according to plan~!”
Rando: “Stone, If you can’t do it, how about we’ll escape now and try again later?”
What is that, a rhetorical question? Should I answer that?
I can’t though, it’s already in front of me and I had to give all of my focus so that I won’t die in 2 hits. At least, the fact that I’m not running away is answer enough.
Ah darnnit, this is gonna be rough. At least one of its arm is almost cut off, I could take advantage of that.
Was what I was thinking while smiling.
The next 5 minutes were a brutal slugfest between me and the bear. Mostly the bear on me though. It became a race of DPS where we had to finish off its remaining 30% HP before it could kill me with my HP being healed constantly.
Due to my technique to reduce damage while stepping back, there were times where it cornered me to a wall. When it happens, I broke out of its grasp by shield charging under its arm.
We killed it with my HP remaining at 8%, which is 1 hit before I’m dead. At the last moment, Lena gave a huge fireball that gave me an opening to drink a potion so that its next hit won’t kill me.
This is a good enough result as we could kill it while being lower leveled that it is. There was also the fact that we didn’t spend our entire SP to take better skill at higher level. I had 12 spent SP and 10 free SP, so we’re not exactly as strong as an optimal lv 13 user.
______________________________
We didn’t get a level from the fight. It’s not what we’re aiming for after all. The Supreme Bear dropped ”Supreme Bear’s head”, “supreme leather”, “supreme claw” and “Bear’s helmet” . I equipped the helmet and the rest is now in Rando’s bag.
We walked back toward the beginner village to meet a certain NPC. Our two crafters are also coming toward us.
[(NPC) Guild master]: “what is your purpose in meeting me today adventurers?”
There should be a list showing a few options in a window in front of Rando right now.
Rando: “Create guild, Kill supreme bear, confirm”
While you could engage in normal conversation with NPC, most of us generally hate conversations and as it seemed the developers understand this and allowed this kind of conversation.
Killing the supreme bear is one of some ways to obtain the right to create guild, another way is to just pay a fee to the NPC.
Regardless of how unusual it is for adventurers to kill supreme bear at the 1st day after closed beta, the NPC just nodded in a predetermined sequence of actions.
[(NPC) Guild Master]: What name would you call upon yourselves adventurers?
Rando: “ercse0”
You have created the guild ercse0 in which the members include:
Rando
Stone
Rick
Saturn
Pudding
Lena
Fifi
Stan
